Magic Training

The next day, all the Inklings noticed a "beginning magics" class at 9 in their schedules. They all walked to the room together.

"I assume this is gonna be a lot harder." Marie Said.

"Honestly, I think I'll have a lot of extra classes." Said Agent 4.

"We gotta do it to protect Inkopolis." Said Agent 3.

"I'm worried about Gramps..." Said Callie.

"I'm sure he is ok, Callie. But I wish we could see him too." Said Marie, a little sad.

They arrived at the classroom door.

"Cheer up guys. We wanna be focused, we're learning magic now." Said Agent 3.

The Inklings went inside. Chappa was sitting on a levitating chair, watching the class. The Inklings timidly took a seat. Chappa glided over to them, chair and all.

"Honestly, why is it that I'm the one you guys are scared of? Or have you not seen Axel's face before?" He joked.

"It's the scary omen." Said Callie. "You are made of shadows..."

"Well I happen to be the guy who's gonna show you how to magic. So I suggest paying attention to me. Everyone is meditating while we wait for the last people to arrive." Said Chappa.

The Inklings complied, and Chappa floated back to the front of the room.

A few minutes later, and the rest of the class had entered. Chappa began the lecture.

"All right class. I am fully aware several of you already know very basic magic, but we are all starting at the first step. I assume LL of you have been awoken, because that's one of the few things Axel is diligent about." He said. "I am going to activate your SEA aura, do not panic."

A powerful dome of Arcane magic burst in the room. In response, everyone inside started to radiate their element. Once more, Callie was covered in fire, Marie was covered in ice, agent 3 water, and agent 4 lightning. None of them were used to it yet, as to be expected. Callie winced, but somehow maintained concentration, and the rest of the agents didn't react, though it took 3 a lot of willpower.

"You have your elements, but, while they are one with you, they are not truly bonded, and you cannot properly use them yet." Chappa said. "Embrace the power, don't be shy."

The class didn't know what exactly he meant by that.

"You need to feel one with the power. If it's hurting you, you're doing it wrong. That means all of you." Said Chappa. "Accept the power, like an extra limb, or another form, or a new sensory input."

This was a metaphor the Inklings could use. They tried to make out using the magic to be like changing forms. Callie actually did change forms for a moment, and agent 4 got close. But slowly, they felt the magic hurt a little less.

"Clearly a few of you don't know what a metaphor is..." Said Chappa. "I don't know how to help you without sounding creepy then."

The Inklings, and everyone else who started trying to adapt to the magic tuned him out.

Suddenly, one young boy shot a wide beam of light out of his hand.

"Shit... Forgot to mention, be careful, or you can misfire." Said Chappa.

Everyone tried to focus more on internalizing the magic. For the Inklings, the pain gradually reduced, untill they couldn't feel it anymore. But without warning, another student sent out a beam of metal, making a banging echo from the ceiling. In surprise, Callie misfired a both of fire.

"Guys, guys, please stop shooting the roof." Said Chappa, a bit exasperated.

Fortunately, only one further incident occurred.

Callie looked at her hands. No longer was she glowing with fire, but a comforting warmth radiated from her palms. Marie was not coated in frost, a small ball of frost was in her hands. Controlled sparks hopped around agent 4, and agent 3 had a little pool of water slowly spinning around.

"With proper control over your magic, you can use it for various attacks, defenses, or just plain old convenience tricks, if you want." Chappa said. "The only trick at that point, is learning the moves. But, if you wanna learn moves, you gotta be embracing the magic, not just restraining it. Most of you are closer to the former, but it's all or nothing in this case. Remember, the magic is a part of you, treat it as such."

A short while later, the students had managed to embrace their magic as their own.

"Shame that took so long. Ok, for the rest of class, meditate, and focus on letting the magic situate itself. Before you can is it, it needs to get familiar with your spirit and soul." Chappa said.

Lots of meditation later.

"Class is now out. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave, but I have other things I need to do. Ask some of the other teachers of you need help." Said Chappa, teleporting away.

While a few students left to do other things, most stayed in the room, mainly because they had nothing else in their schedules that day. The Inklings were among those who stayed. A few other teachers had entered the room, each with a certain element specialty. They requested those seeking practice with moves come to them.

"Should we split up?" Asked Marie, minorly concerned.

"We don't all have the same element, so I would assume yes." Said agent 3.

"We'll be ok Marie." Said Callie.

The Inklings joined the corresponding element groups.

Marie POV

Marie was squashed between a burly ice elemental and a tired looking half Valkrie. The instructor was explaining basic ice moves.

"Usually, the first move for any element is an attack. Of course, this isn't required, but it's how we teach." The instructor said, tiredly. "Ice magic is more limited in offense compared to most elements, because it is more of a debuffer class, that plays support. But, they aren't totally defenseless. Today, I plan to teach the simplest attack, Ice shard. If miraculously, you all are apt enough to grasp it quickly, we can move on to frostbolt."

The class nodded.

"Ice shard is easy, once you get the hang of it. Simply focus on making a crystal of ice appear in front of you, preferably going forward." The instructor said. "Avoid making it inside your hand, or you'll be needing medical help real quick."

The ice elemental got it on the first try. Mainly because Elementals already know most basic moves, and only came for the more advanced ones.

Marie tried to think cold thoughts. She focused on a particular crystal shape that she liked, and tried to make it. While at first she was unsuccessful, after a few dozen tries she got a fully formed crystal to appear above her hand. She looked at the open floor, and sent the crystal forwards. After repeating this several dozen times, she felt at least somewhat confident in her ability.

Callie POV

Callie's instructor was half asleep.

"I don't get paid enough for this... Alright, if you wanna use fire spells, you gotta know what your casting. Fire is one of the more hazardous elements, known for causing self harm to those who don't focus." He said. "Fire is a very offensive element, with no real defense moves, and only a couple debuffs. Fire also has only 3 basic moves, as a result of this one dimensional nature. Fireball, ignite, and flare. I plan to teach only fireball. No one better object, I'm too tired for that."

Callie was very pumped up.

"The nature of a fireball, is it's a ball, and it's fire." Said the instructor. "I know, you'd never guess."

One student chuckled under her breath.

"Now, raise your hand, however you want. Focus on collecting some fire into a ball. Don't go too big, because bigger fireballs are harder to control." The instructor said, demonstrating. A trio of fireballs hit the wall he targeted. "This room cannot be damaged, so shoot the floor and wall. Not each other."

Callie used her excitement to fuel her fire, and actually got a functional fireball on her first try. She tossed it, and continued making them, one by one. A couple other students watched her, impressed.

Agent 3 POV

Agent 3's instructor was overly hyped. Maybe because there was only 1 student she had to teach.

"Why am I the lonely one..." 3 sulked.

"Don't worry about it dearie." Said the instructor. "Water elements can be a bit lazy. Some elements are defining that way. A good example is fire elements are hyper, and ice are more cool and drawn in."

"That explains a lot..." Agent 3 thought.

"Well, I know you have an... Adversity to water. So using it goes against your core morals. Well, the thing with water is it the the most balanced element in the entire roster, incluing the higher tiers. It also has the most basic moves. If there were other people, I would start with attacks, but what do you want to learn?" The instructor asked.

"I guess, since everyone is learning attacks... Wait, what kind of spells are there?" Agent 3 asked.

"Well, there are attack moves, defense moves, buff moves, debuff moves, and healing moves." Said the instructor after a moment.

"I guess I'll go with healing, then. Sounds safest." Said agent 3.

"Very well. Water does have a basic healing move. The thing with water is it makes up most humanoid beings to a high degree. For example, your ink is water based. Human blood is water based. Et cetera." Said the instructor. "You can use water to help replace lost fluids from an ally, until they heal naturally. It doesn't hold a candle to life magic, but it happens to be the fastest fix. Try on me."

"How?" Asked Agent 3.

"I know blood magic, so I'll simply... Extract a bit, and have you try to heal it. Don't worry, it won't hurt me very much. You don't have to look." The instructor replied.

Agent 3 watch regardless, as the instructor pricked her arm, and extracted a moderate amount of blood.

"My health is down about 10%, so let's see you try." The instructor said.

Agent 3 tried to imagine inserting water to help. She didn't quite know what to do.

"Focus on making the water first. Then, try to imbue a feeling of security into it, and put it into the wound directly, but slowly." The instructor said, trying to help.

With the proper know how, agent 3 managed to do the move correctly in only a couple tries. The healing was not as high as standard, but as agent 3 worked on it, the healing output rose.

"I think that last one was the full 12% heal." The instructor said after agent 3s 37th try. "Well done! Do you wanna try and learn another move, or are you good?"

"I think I need an attack." Said agent 3.

"Very well. Normally I start with waterbolt. But you can also learn crest, or bubble." Said the instructor.

"Bubble?" Said agent 3, confused.

"It's like a water grenade. Kinda misleading name, huh?" Said the instructor.

"My class is bomber, so let's go with bubble!" Agent 3 decided.

"Very well." Said the instructor. They began that lesson.

Agent 4 POV

The lightning group was quietly waiting. The instructor was clearly thinking about something, and no one dared interrupt him. After a minute, he said "alright! Here's what we are gonna do! The issue with Lightning is it has very few basic moves, because it is an almost pure attack type, like fire. I needed to recall what said basic moves were."

The class perked up to attention.

"The move we are going with is shock. 'but sir!' I'm sure some of you who pay attention to other groups may think. 'why not lightning bolt?' Well, compared to frostbolt, waterbolt, fireball, shadowbolt, or windball, lightning bolt is a bit more advanced." The instructor explained. "Shock is similar to the other basic attacks. A small orb of elemental magic."

The class understood, mostly.

"For shock, you gotta picture the lightning following an irregular path. Make it form a ball, instead of a straight line." The instructor said.

The students tried to make spheres of lightning.

"I see struggles. Don't make the orb too dense, it won't take like that." The instructor said.

After he said that, almost every student had cast shock within 3 tries.

"Alright. Good, I guess I got the adaptive bunch this time. We can move on, but those were kinda lacking power, ya know? Try to put more 'oomph' into it." The instructor said. The students began showering the floor near them on Shocks, trying to find the balance of attack output and lightning present. After many tries, Agent 4 found his balance.

General POV

Chappa came back into the room and hour later. Marie had managed to get Ice shard to cast at a good rate and learned frostbolt, Callie had gotten a fireball that packed a bit more punch without hitting herself, Agent 3 had managed to get bubble working, and could even toss 2 smaller bubbles at once when she focused, and agent 4s shock was starting to have a small AOE strike as well.

"Alright guys. Go back to your rooms, the teachers are on break. Mandatory relaxing time! Get to it!" Chappa called. No one heard him. He repeated himself, this time with a huge metal megaphone and relaxed sound reduction from the room. Everyone heard him.

The agents gathered, and left for thier rooms, talking about what they learned. But before they got past the central area, agent 3 told everyone "I'm gonna find Shealia, because I want to learn about the jobs they have here. I plan to make my own bomber weapon."

Marie dismissed her, and agent 3 ran off to find Shealia. This time, she would find her, for sure.
