Basic Training (Callie/Marie)

Then next morning.

"Uwaugh..." Groaned Callie. Her bed wasn't broken in yet, so it felt like sleeping on a block of concrete. She meandered over to where the kitchen was, and crashed into a wall.

"Oh right. This room isn't my house..." She groaned. "Where do I get food?"

Just then, she heard a beep from by her door.

"Eh? What's that?" Callie wondered. She approached the noise. There was a tablet by her door. It had breakfast options on it, somehow translated, but roughly.

"How did they... Oh yeah, Mermish." Callie said. "So I use this to get breakfast? So luxurious..." She ordered a stack of pancakes with extra butter and syrup. In about 20 seconds, the tablet 'dinged', and flipped up, revealing her order.

"How much time does Axel have on his hands..." Callie wondered. "Wait, I need to check when that class thing is..." She sleepily put her headgear on. "1 hour? I can shower first... Wait no, I'll need to make sure it's safe first."

She slowly turned on the sink, and poked the drips with her finger. It burned.

"I'll need to get something else to shower..." She groaned. "Maybe Axel has something... I should tell the others to not use the showers..."

She sent the other agents the message, and finished eating. "Off to class. I hope it isn't too bad..." She said.

30 minutes later.

Miraculously, Callie found the class all by herself. And with 5 minutes to spare. Inside, she saw numerous small children, and a young woman with small horns sitting in the front table. She was wearing a translator. Callie approached her.

"Hello! Are you Maya?" She asked.

"Hey cutie! Yep, that's me! You the new student? You seem... Older. Wait, now I remember! You're new, huh? Find a seat." Maya said enthusiastically.

Callie sat down, and Maya prepared to start class.

"Alright kiddos! Who's ready for Brawling Class?" She said.

The kids squealed happily. Callie cheered.

"Ok then, get out your class set Brawling weapon." Maya said.

The kids pulled out their assortment of axes and hammers. Callie pulled out her hammer, after a bit of fiddling.

"Ok, first lesson today is just getting a feel for your weapon. Everyone, stand up." Maya said.

Everyone got to their feet, and the desks folded into the floor.

Maya drew a huge axe/cudgel hybrid, and said "ok guys, just copy me for now."

She swing her axe in a simple side-to-side motion. The kids tried to keep up, and did ok. Callie swung, and almost lost her footing.

"A little less oomph, dear." Maya said.

Callie blushed, before seeing one kid on the floor with a mark on the wall.

"I guess it's good advice. Poor kid..." She thought to herself. She swing with less force, and it felt much easier.

"Ok, I got this." She thought.

"Alright, now do up and down." Said Maya, demonstrating. "Don't hit the floor, if you can help it."

Everyone copied her. Callie found this motion more natural for a hammer, and more like her roller.

"This is kinda fun." Said Callie.

That rotation of side to side, then up and down continued for 10 minutes, before Maya said "alright. I need to go pick something up, so just do one of those swings until I get back. Master Axel won't be happy if you mess around."

Callie went with up and down, before seeing almost everyone doing the motion they didn't like.

"How come... Wait. Are they building muscle and such?" She thought. "I'll give it a try." She swapped to side to side. Maya got back 20 minutes later. Most of the kids were sitting down, resting their arms. But Callie was still at it, she hadn't stopped yet.

"Whew, Axel wasn't kidding when he said this was hard." She mumbled.

"Ok class." Said Maya. "I see at least some of you tried hard.  Class is out for this morning, be back tonight for the next exercises."

"Thank squid." Said Callie. "I can take a break... My arms are killing me. I should get the others up."

She put away her training hammer, and went back to her room.

Marie focus.

An insistent knock was heard from Marie's door. She opened it groggily. Callie was there, drenched in sweat.

"Marie! Wake up or you'll miss class!" Said Callie.

"Why are you sweaty?" Marie asked.

"I came back from my class." Said Callie. "These weapons are heavy."

"Hurry up and eat, but don't shower. I'll ask Axel to do something for us. It's normal water. I know he makes exceptions, but he might have forgot." Said Callie.

Marie put on her head fear in exhaustion, and saw her class with Axel was in 30 minutes. "I'll ask him, he is my teacher today." She said.

Unlike Callie, Marie ate fast, and didn't have to message people. She figured out the headgear faster, and actually found a map to class.

25 minutes later.

Marie arrived to Shooting Class. It was about to start. Axel had a huge rifle slung over his back, and a handgun at his belt.

"Ok little guys. Today, we are learning how to blow off the other guys arms without taking off your own." Axel said.

"How blunt..." Marie thought.

"So I'm gonna walk you through how shooting works." Said Axel.

Literally an hour of explaining how guns work later.

"Any questions?" Asked Axel.

No one answered.

"Great. Now let's go to the firing range." Said Axel.

This peaked Marie's attention. She had paid attention to the whole lecture, but was kinda falling asleep during it.

Axel teleported everyone to the range.

"Now, draw your gun." He said.

Everyone complied.

"Line up the sight." Axel said.

In various degrees of success, everyone got the target in their sights.

"Alright. Now, lock your elbows." Axel said.

A fifth of the class gave him a look, Marie included.

"If you don't have arm bones, just tense your bicep. If you don't have biceps, you shouldn't have an issue." Said Axel.

"Now, breath out and fire." Said Axel.

Marie hit the target dead center, but was pushed back by the kick. No other students had that accuracy, or that kickback.

"Ok. Clearly for some of you, practice not falling over is needed. Lucky we are here for an hour. Don't shoot each other, I regrew enough skulls yesterday." Said Axel, sitting in the corner.

The students began erratically firing at the target, but following the method. Marie worked on not being forced back with each shot. First she tried tensing her legs. That made it worse. She tried having the gun a bit off center. This lowered her aim, but reduced kick a lot. Finally, she leaned slightly forward. This was what did it. She felt almost no kick, but her legs got tired quickly. So she alternated between different leg stances usually reserved for Paladins, but it helped the kick. When class was over, Axel closed the book he had gotten out, and dismissed everyone. Marie went back to her room, and massaged her aching everythings. Then she realized she forgot to ask Axel about the showers. She ran back to tell him.

1 minute later.

"Oh... I forgot. I'll get that switched to the Elementals blend. They use a cleansing foam, because the water either kills, hurts, or passes through them." Axel said.

"Thanks." Said Marie. She left again for her room to do stretches.
