Basic Advanced Training
With a very basic, but existent level or magical skill, the Inklings could now proceed to actually taking the advanced classes. Callie wondered why they had to wait at all.
As with the beginner classes, each inkling had a different teacher. Agent 4 got 2. But, Marie and Agent 4 kept their old teachers.
"Oh squid. I gotta put up with Axel in a head class now..." Marie groaned.
"Dunno why youre panicking. I get both Jacopo and now Mr. Magic guy." Said Agent 4.
"It says I have... Also Axel?" Said Callie, shocked.
"Hey, me too?" Said Agent 3. The Inklings were highly bamboozled by this. "How tho?"
Axel appeared behind them. "So you're the ones talking about me. You wanna know how I teach lots of classes? Omnipotence. Easy."
Callie freaked out. "Whawha! Where did you come from?"
"Teleportation. Always the best reactions..." Axel laughed. "Well, I'd get to class. There's a thing coming up soon, so you gotta get practice in." He vanished.
"Well, off we go..." Marie said.
Some time later.
Marie was last to class, despite the fact that it wasn't starting for another 20 minutes. What she saw was an impressive spectacle. Many students had custom firearms, and several were shooting elemental attacks at long range.
Marie started doing practice shots to warm up, ignoring the flashy people around her. After a moment, someone tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and saw a tall elf, with a large sniper rifle, smiling at her.
"My name's Mira. I saw you aren't using magic attacks. Are you new?" The elf said.
"Yes." Marie said. "Why?"
"Axel taught magic attacks last week. He won't teach them again. So I wanted to ask if you would like help learning?" Mira said.
"I guess..." Marie said.
"Alright." Said Mira, taking a knee behind Marie. "The first step to using a magic attack is easy. You already know a basic move, right?" Mira asked.
"Yeah." Said Marie.
"So, Axel taught it like this. Picture the gun as an extension of your arm. It's hard, but try to make an attack appear in the barrel, and cover the bullet." Mira said.
Marie tried. It took several attempts, but she soon felt the gun cool down.
"I think I did it?" She said.
Mira peeked in the gun. There was indeed a frostbolt in the barrel.
"Yes you did." She said, getting away from the barrel. "Now try to fire it."
Marie did this part much easier. The first shot came out as an ice shot, leaving a mark where she hit.
"Good job! You can use many different attacks with your gun, so long as they aren't solid, and large. So no ice crystal." Mira said. "I gotta get back to my practice now. See you later!"
"Bye." Said Marie. "Well, that's a handy trick."
Marie spent the last 10 minutes practicing ice shots. She found that using her ice crystals to pin her feet could help her shoot without the recoil, and did that. After a bit, Axel appeared in the room.
"Aight guys!" He called. "Today we are doing lots of Gunslinger skills, so pay attention."
Marie looked up.
"Gonna move fast now, test is in 2 days. As a review, we are going over heavy shot, multishot, flurryshot, trick shot, and disabling shot today, so line up." Axel said.
Marie got in line, and lifted her gun.
"First is loaded shot. I know many or you know this, but it's a review. You gotta imagine putting more force in then bullet than is normal. Not too hard. The gun is one with you, just put your own strength into the shot." Axel said.
Marie pulled it off quickly. She was astonished that 'thinking' could boost a weapons output so much.
After 5 minutes, Axel changed moves.
"We are doing trick shot now! Hardest one, I know all of you need practice, because none of you have telekinesis." He said. "When you shoot a bullet, it goes straight. Use your head. You threw that bullet, make it curve. Like throwing curve balls."
Marie took longer on this one. But she, while poorly, eventually got a shot that curved to hit a target.
Axel progressed in the lessons, determined to avoid taking too long. Marie was quick to pick up the multishot, and flurryshot. Disabling shot was much harder, but she again poorly did it.
"Eh, it's something. You had 5 minutes. Practice the skills you are bad at, and I'll see you tomorrow. We are going over them again, so be ready, I seek improvement, as should you." Axel said, disappearing.
About the same time.
Callie was waiting for her class to start. She was warming up in the corner, certain she would learn something new. Suddenly, Axel was on the ceiling.
"Hey guys. Since y'all have been so well behaved, I thought I'd teach the class with the Scythe of Damnation today." He unveiled a large black and red scythe, with fire spitting from it's surface.
"The goal today is the make sure you all can still do the Slamdown. Lucky you, most close ranged classes have a limited nonmagical moveset, so we will just look at magic today. I know most of you can do it, but notice I say most. Now let's go, review never hurt anyone, since the test is in 2 days." He said.
Everyone sitting stood up, and everyone stood at attention. Callie looked at the stylish battle axes, scythes, hammers, cudgels, and even a flail.
"I gotta get one of those..." She thought to herself. "They look so fresh!"
"Now, you all know the drill. A weapon is an extension of it's wielder. So magical charged attacks are easy. Just put the magic that normally goes in your hand, and coat the weapon in it." Axel said, seeming bored.
Callie managed to ignite her hammer, and almost dropped it in surprise.
"There you go. You can't keep it charged, because you don't have infinite Mana. But a Slamdown is easy. Just jump, and hit the ground as hard as possible, while releasing the magic on the weapon's surface. Jose, I know the flail is different for the last time. Do it anyways."
The boy with the flail grumbled, but complied.
Callie tried to jump, but really couldn't with the weapon. Not wanting to fail, she improvised. She turned into a squid, squid jumped straight up, and changed back in midair to hit the ground.
"I guess that counts. Consider strength training, though Callie. You gotta have some jump height, Slamdown or not. But good thinking." Axel said.
The rest of the class went simply. Because Callie couldn't use her squid jump for a while, she did regular magic charged and normal attacks. The class was a good one, even of she didn't learn as much as anyone else.
Still the same time...
Agent 3 was waiting. What for? A brutish Valkrie had locked her in a locker.
After a bit, Axel arrived, took one look at the locker, and said "dammit Ricardo. I'm gonna leave you there if you don't stop." He tore the door open from across the room, and out came an irritated agent 3.
"Now now. As much as I'd like to see a duel, this is a class now." Axel said. Agent 3 lowered her bazooka.
"Because bombers seldom use magic, we are using stronger charges today. You have them, you just don't know it. Put a normal round into the launcher." Axel said.
Everyone complied.
"Now. That's a bomb. Charge it. Make it a bigger bomb. I don't know what kind, but just imagine a bigger hole than the ones you normally make." Axel said.
Agent 3 understood. She pictured a crater far bigger than the ones her launcher could normally leave, and shot. Axel blocked the explosion.
"Chill 3. Restraint. Too big and your gonna smack your own allies." Axel said.
"Sorry..." Agent 3 said sullenly.
"Beat it punk!" Said Ricardo.
"Don't worry, everyone does it. And Ricardo, if you don't knock it off, I'm gonna use you for the next demonstration. With my rockets, not the practice launcher." Axel said.
Ricardo went white.
"That's what I thought. Moving on..." Axel said.
Agent 3 spent a long time practicing with different trick throws with mines and grenades, shooting large charges, but still controlled, and using magic on grenades for better results. She only hit herself about 20 times. A lot of time was spent healing herself.
Still still the same time.
Agent 4 was waiting for Jacopo to show up. The fancy swords everyone around him had were making him feel not as worthy. But he was determined to show his metal. Jacopo came in, and shouted "get up! It's review day now, stop slacking!"
Everyone got to their feet in a panic.
"He is so much scarier..." Agent 4 thought.
"I know you hotshots know everything, so we have 2 options here. We duel to review, or you shut up and tolerate the lessons. Ok? Ok." Jacopo said.
Agent 4 was eager to pick up some skills. No one in the class dared mope or complain.
"First, we are doing the 47 angles of alternative striking, so take your battle stances!" Jacopo shouted, slightly less angry sounding.
The students followed suit.
"Now, start the pattern, or yours I don't give a damn." Jacopo said. "4, Lariott, Vector, get over here."
Agent 4 went up, confused. The other two students followed, highly terrified.
"Now, you three just came from the beginner classes. Thus, none of you know anything we are doing. Unlike Axel, I teach my students when they don't know something, so let's go. Take a battle stance." Jacopo said, much softer.
Agent 4 took his... Odd stance.
"You watch too much SAO kid. Whatever, I did too. Now, the 47 angles of alternative striking are not the same as the 9 angles of transitional striking. These are used for more unorthodox combos." Jacopo said. He guided the three through each strike. "Remember these, and practice later. We gotta move on."
Then he went back to yelling.
"I gotta teach these 3, so y'all are doing your own special moves now. There isn't much else to go over." He shouted.
The class started doing many different attacks, all of which were flashy.
Jacopo again lowered his tone.
"You three still need to know magic charged attacks. Not counting weapon enchants, this is what every swords maximum potential is." He explained. "Axel is better at this part, but he has 6 classes already going on, so I'll do my best. Axel says to imagine the weapon as an extension of your arm. Do that."
Agent 4 tried. It made sense, in a way. It was just hard.
"When you think you got it, try to make your elemental magic cover the blade." Jacopo explained.
Lariott managed to cover her blade in more metal.
"You did it. 4, Vector, you try." Jacopo said.
Agent 4 eventually got static along the edge of his blade.
"There you go. You can keep the charge, or launch it out. Lariott, you have to launch, metal coating the sword does not do much for you." Jacopo said.
He turned back to then class.
"Class is out. Go practice elsewhere, test is in 2 days!" He yelled.
Everyone left, except agent 4.
"What's a special move?" He asked.
"It's a move I'm not teaching you. Something you gotta learn yourself." Jacopo said. "I'm aware you have Chappa in about no minutes, so I'll take you. Afterwards, practice casting spells while swinging your sword, instead of one at a time. Such is the art of a Spellsword." He teleported. "Here you are, good luck. And leave sooner next time." He vanished.
"Ah, good to see you again 4." Chappa said with a much friendlier tone. "We are working on harder spells. I'll help you, everyone else is just practicing and reviewing. There is a test in 2 days."
"Jacopo said the same thing. What kind of test?" Agent 4 asked.
"That would be telling. Everyone is finding out tommorow." Chappa said with a sneaky grin. "Now, it's just you and actually, not me. You are lightning, yes?"
Agent 4 nodded.
"Excellent. I have a fight to break up, again. So I called a master mage, who happens to also be skilled in lightning.
Brace yourself, he doesn't go easy on anyone. Ah, there he is." Chappa said. "Good luck!"
Agent 4 whipped around, and saw an imposing figure holding a long staff, with pure white eyes.
"You the lightning user?" He asked, in a raspy voice.
"Yes." Agent 4 replied, nervous.
"Time for a few moves, then. How much do you know?" The figure asked.
"Only shock." Said agent 4.
"Very well. We should probably start with the classic spell, wrath." The figure said. "It is similar to shock, but bigger."
Agent 4 did that easily.
"If that's so easy, that's good. Now, you're a Spellsword, which gives you more options. Let's try a lightning rod. Draw your sword." The figure said.
Agent 4 complied.
"Charge a large amount of lightning at the hilt of the sword." The figure explained. "Then release it in a thin line, straight forward."
Agent four spent a while, but after dozens of attempts, shot the desired line.
"Good. Your class is almost over, so I will teach one last move, more for defense." The figure said.
Agent 4 nodded.
"Collect static along your sword. Lots of it, but keep it as static." The figure explained.
Agent 4 did it easily.
"Now. I'm gonna swing another practice sword at you. Block, and use the static to hold my sword." Then figure said, summoning a practice sword. He swung. The first time, agent 4 couldn't do it, but the second time, he felt it stick, for a short time.
"There. It's weak for now, so practice. That move is called magnet bar, use it for disarming an opponent." The figure said, turning to leave."
"Hey! I never caught your name!" Agent 4 called.
"That's the goal." Said the figure. "Don't need too many onlookers knowing me." He left.
"Well, I guess I gotta practice." Said 4, leaving for the dojo, where Callie had informed him everyone was at.
