4. PLATOON and SQUAD (both Army and Marines)

a. Army Mechanized Infantry platoon, mounted in Weling/Kobra wheeled IFV or FNSS Kaplan/Harimau Hitam, based Macan Kumbang tracked IFV. Consist of four IFV per platoon. Like the US Army Stryker platoons the driver and the vehicle commander are not part of the dismounted element. 

The platoon of four was further divided into two section:

- Section A with two vehicles, one carrying a rifle squad and one with another rifle squad plus the Platoon Leader with the rank of 2LT/1LT (Letnan Dua or Letnan Satu) and the radio operator, ranked Private First Class (PFC, Prajurit Kepala) or Lance Corporal (LCPL, Kopral Dua)

- Section B with two vehicles, one carrying the weapons squad and the second element of the platoon HQ, the forward observer, normally an NCO with rank up to First Sergeant (1SG, Sersan Satu) and the combat medic, attached from the battalion's medical platoon with rank up to Master Corporal (MCPL, Kopral Kepala) but not below Private First Class. The vehicle carried the weapons squad was commanded by the platoon's second in command/deputy platoon leader, mostly filled by a Master Sergeant/MSG (Sersan Kepala) up to warrant officers (pembantu letnan)

- Platoon HQ

i. Platoon Leader (1LT/2LT) armed with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. Deputy Platoon Leader (MSG to WO) armed with 1 SS4-V5C and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

iii. Radio operator (RTO) (PFC to LCPL) armed with 1 SS4-V5C

iv. Forward Observer (attached) (2SG to 1SG) armed with 1 SS4-V5C

v. Combat Medic (attached) (PFC to MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-V5C

- 3 x rifle squad (9 soldiers each)

i. Squad Leader (2SG/MSG) armed with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

Alpha fireteam (four soldiers)

i. Team Leader (LCPL/2SG) armed with 1 SS4-V5 (6.5x39mm NATO) or 1 SS4-V4 (7.62x51mm NATO). Normally not issued a pistol but some team leaders are buying their own pistol, mostly Pindad G3/G4 or Komodo P1-120.

ii. Automatic Rifleman (PFC to MCPL) armed with either magazine fed SS4-V6 heavy barrel version of the SS4 chambered in 6.5 NATO or belt-fed SM5 with 7.62mm NATO

iii. Grenadier (PVT to MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-V5 and 1 SPG-4 underslung grenade launcher (M320 produced under license of HK by PT Pindad)

iv. Rifleman (PV2 to PFC) armed with 1 SS4-V5 (A)

Bravo fireteam (four soldiers)

i. Team Leader (LCPL/2SG) armed with 1 SS4-V5 (6.5x39mm NATO) or 1 SS4-V4 (7.62x51mm NATO). Normally not issued a pistol but some team leaders are buying their own pistol, mostly Pindad G3/G4 or Komodo P1-120.

ii. Automatic Rifleman (PFC to MCPL) armed with either magazine fed SS4-V6 heavy barrel version of the SS4 chambered in 6.5 NATO or belt-fed SM5 with 7.62mm NATO

iii. Grenadier (PVT to MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-V5 and 1 SPG-4 underslung grenade launcher (M320 produced under license of HK by PT Pindad)

iv. Rifleman (PV2 to PFC) armed with 1 SS4-V5 (A)

(A), If a rifleman received proper training and was skilled enough he or she will become the squad designated marksman/sharpshooter and will be carrying an SS4-V7 DMR version of the SS4 with high-powered optics.

Mounted team (two soldier)

i. Vehicle driver (PV2 to MCPL)

ii. Vehicle commander (2SG to 1SG)

Additional mission dependent weapons: 

i. 1 Kawasaki Type 30 top-attack ATGM CLU (command launch unit) and 2-3 reloads per rifle squad, 

ii. 1 SM2-V6 general purpose machine gun per squad

iii. 2 disposable 94mm SLT-5 shoulder launched anti-tank rocket (based on Brazilian ALAC) or 1 reloadable 105mm SLT-6 with three to four reloads per rifle squad.

- 1 x weapons squad (5+1 soldier)

i. Squad Leader (2SG/MSG) armed with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. 2 machine gun teams, each with 1 gunner (CPL-MCPL) with 1 SM2-V6 GPMG and 1 G4 pistol, and 1 assistant gunner (PFC-LCPL) with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 G4 pistol

Mounted team (1 soldier)

i. Vehicle driver (PV2 to MCPL)


b. Army light infantry platoon. This organization applied to light infantry units such as airmobile and mountain capable Raider brigades and Kostrad Para Raider (airborne infantry) brigades. Organization (per 2040). 

- Platoon HQ 

i. Platoon Leader (1LT/2LT) armed with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

iii. Grenadier (PV1 to MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-V5 and 1 SPG-4 underslung grenade launcher (M320 produced under license of HK by PT Pindad)

iv. Rifleman (PVT to PFC) armed with 1 SS4-V5 and one 94mm SLT-5 disposable anti-tank weapon (A)(B)

(A), If a rifleman received proper training and was skilled enough he or she will become the squad designated marksman/sharpshooter and will be carrying an SS4-V7 DMR version of the SS4 with high-powered optics.

(B). Depending on the mission requirement along with preferences of the platoon leader the SLT-5 can be substituted with either 105mm SLT-6 AT rocket system or MBT NLAW 2 short-range fire and forget top attack disposable anti-tank missile. 

- 1 x weapons squad (7 soldier) (C)

i. Squad Leader (2SG/MSG) armed with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. 2 machine gun teams, each with 1 gunner (CPL-MCPL) with 1 SM2-V6 GPMG and 1 G4 pistol, and 1 assistant gunner (PFC-LCPL) with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 G4 pistol

iii. 2 anti-tank missile teams, each with 1 gunner (CPL-MCPL) with 1 Type 30 and 1 G4 pistol, and 1 assistant gunner (PFC-LCPL) with 1 SS4-V5C carbine and 1 G4 pistol

(C). Depending on the mission requirement along with preferences of the platoon leader and the weapons squad leader the table of organization and equipment (TO&E) may be subjected to alterations. Variation observed include the cannibalization of one ATGM team to form the 3rd gun team or supplementation of Type 30s, partial or full, with either SLT-6 rocket system or Carl Gustav M6 recoilless rifle system. Furthermore, the gunner of the machine gun teams were authorized a pistol but were not always issued in practice. 


c. Marine Corps rifle platoon. Modeled after the US Marine Corps it has 12-men squad instead of 9 in the Army. Noted that all rifles made by PT Pindad for Indonesian Navy and Marine Corps have the variant designation M (for Marinized) instead of V due to parkerization to prevent corrosion.

iii. Radio operator (RTO) (PFC to LCPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C

iv. Forward Observer (attached) (2SG to 1SG) armed with 1 SS4-M5C

v. 2 x Combat Medic (attached) (PFC to MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C


2. 3 x rifle squads (12 marines each)

i. Squad Leader (2SG/MSG) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. Assistant Squad Leader (CPL/MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. Squad Systems Operator (CPL/MCPL) tech-specialist/tactical drone operator, armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

- 3 x Fireteams (3 marines each) (B)

i. Team Leader (CPL/MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine (A)

ii. Automatic Rifleman (PVT/PFC) armed with 1 SS4-M6C light machine gun

iii. Grenadier (PVT/PFC) armed with 1 SS4-M5 with SPG-4 underslung grenade launcher

(A). The most senior squad leader acts as assistant deputy platoon leader (assistant platoon sergeant)

(B). The squad is also equipped with a SS4-M7 DMR (issued to the best shot or a senior Marine in the squad) and either a SLT-6 or Carl Gustav M6. In mechanized squads (mounted in BMP-3, BT-3 or Macan Dahan amphibious armored vehicle), the vehicle also carried two disposable anti-tank weapons system, mostly the SLT-5.


d. Marine Corps weapons platoon

1. Platoon HQ

i. 1 Platoon Leader (1LT) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. 1 Platoon Sergeant (2SGT/MSGT) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

iii. 1 Combat Medic (CPL/MCPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

2. Machine gun section

Consists of 3 SM2 GPMG squads.

i. 1 Section Leader (2SG/1SG) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. 3 Squad Leaders (CPL/2SG) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

iii. 6 Team Leaders (LCPL/CPL) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine 

iv. 6 Gunners (LCPL) each marine armed with 6 SM2-V6 GPMG and 6 G4 pistol

v. 6 Ammo bearers (PVT/PFC/LCPL) each marine armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine

3. Assault anti-armor section

Consists of 3 anti-tank and assault squads.

i. 1 Section Leader (2SG/1SG) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

ii. 3 Squad Leaders (CPL/1SG) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine and 1 P3-V2 (.45 ACP) or G4 (overpressure 9mm) semi-auto pistol

iii. 6 Team Leaders (LCPL/CPL) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine 

iv. Anti-tank gunners (PFC/LCPL) (A)

(A) Depending on the mission, the assault anti-armor unit can use either SLT-6, Carl Gustav, but more often tasked as additional AT missile team with Type 30 or MBT LAW 2 or short-range counter-drone teams.

4. Mortar section

3 M224 60mm mortar (manufactured by PT Pindad as M5) squads 

1 Section Leader (MCPL/1SG) armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine

3 Gunner/Squad Leaders (LCPL/CPL) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine

3 Assisstant Gunners (LCPL) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine

3 Ammo Bearers (PV1/PFC/LCPL) each armed with 1 SS4-M5C carbine


B. MARINE CORPS-SPECIFIC

a. Marine Battalion Combat Team (Indonesian equivalent to Marine Expeditionary Unit)

- 1 x Marine Battalion (Marine Battalion Landing Team) reinforced with;

i. 1 x 155mm artillery battery/MLRS battery, 1 x MANPADS/DEAD battery

ii. 1 x 14 assault amphibious vehicle platoon such as the BT-3, 

iii. 1 x 8 amphibious infantry fighting vehicle platoon such as the BMP-3FM3/Macan Dahan (Leopard)

iv. 1 x tank platoon of 4 K2/K3 MBT, 

v. 1 x reconnaissance cavalry platoon with 4 Macan Dahan scout variant

vi. 1 x foot recon (surveillance, target acquisition) platoon

vii. 1 x combat engineer platoon

viii. 1 x  medical platoon

- Aviation Group

i. 1 x composite reinforced rotary wing and tiltrotor squadron (embarked on LHA and LPD, under Navy control)

ii. 1 x air control platoon (responsible for controlling CAS, MEDEVAC/CASEVAC, tactical airlift (assault support in the USMC))

iii. 1 x composite UAV reconnaissance/attack squadron (with heavier ones embarked on LHAs)

iii. 2 x composite UAV reconnaissance/attack squadron (with heavier ones embarked on LHA and CVN, under Navy control)

- Combat Service Support Regiment, with 3 x Combat Service Support battalions (logistic, medical, maintenance, supply and transportation, etc.)

c. Marine Force (Pasukan Marinir, equivalent to USMC Marine Division). There are three active divisions in the Indonesian Marine Corps.
