Determining Character Names
Questions to Ask Yourself When Choosing Character Names
1. What is your story's main setting? Medieval? Fantasy (magical creatures)? Realistic/Modern? Sci-fi? Use the setting to determine the best overall name standard (as in, what type of names your characters will have; for example, in a medieval setting, your characters may have Middle Ages names like Arthur, Lancelot, George, etc.; if Fantasy, you could use Fantasy Name Generator's website for fantasy names (a website for name generators, which I found very helpful when writing some of my stories) or you could use Seventh Sanctum (the first website I found with great writing generators); for Realistic/Modern, you could use BehindTheName's website for first names and surnames (BehindTheSurname; linked on the site) that have a description that matches your character's personality.
2. What is your character's gender? You can pick unisex names (names that can be for either gender) (please don't get offended at me for saying "either gender" as most online name generators may have only female or male options or unisex for names) if you want the gender to be up to the reader or for better names.
