Obstacles and Resistance

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM – DAY

The setting: A modern, sleek conference room. A large glass meeting table is surrounded by elegant chairs. At the end of the table, a big screen displays a slideshow. SOPHIE, dressed in a smart, understated suit, stands beside ALEX, her friend and tech partner. The investors, a dozen or so people in suits, sit across from them, looking both interested and skeptical.

SOPHIE (with a confident yet slightly trembling voice) Hello everyone. I'm Sophie, and this is Alex, my co-founder and tech partner. We're here to present "Unique," a dating app that stands out by creating authentic connections.

She clicks the remote, and the "Unique" logo appears on the screen.

SOPHIE (CONT'D) Unlike traditional apps where users scroll through dozens of profiles, Unique takes a radically different approach. Each user can only chat with one person at a time, allowing for deeper, more meaningful exchanges.

She changes the slide to show graphs illustrating the app's interface.

INVESTOR #1 (with a skeptical smile) This is interesting, but how do you plan to attract users in an already saturated market? People are used to instant gratification.

SOPHIE (trying to stay calm) We believe the app's value lies precisely in this approach. Users will be encouraged to invest time and engage in more authentic conversations, which will ultimately lead them to seek more meaningful relationships.

INVESTOR #2 (raising an eyebrow) And how do you plan to generate revenue? With only one conversation at a time, your monetization opportunities seem limited.

ALEX (interjecting) We're planning a freemium model, where basic features are free, but users can pay for premium options, such as extending a conversation beyond the initial limit.

INVESTOR #3 (with a critical tone) It sounds good on paper, but how will you ensure users remain engaged after the initial phase?

SOPHIE (with a note of frustration in her voice) That's where the human element comes in. By focusing on the quality of interactions rather than quantity, we aim to create a genuine community of people seeking sincere connections.

INVESTOR #4 (with a disapproving look) But in that case, how will you scale the app? Growth could be very slow.

SOPHIE (with slightly slumped shoulders, a hint of doubt in her eyes) We know the road won't be easy. But we deeply believe that authentic human relationships are key to emotional well-being, and that's what drives us forward.

FLASHBACK – INT. SOPHIE'S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Sophie's face, bathed in soft light, tightens in pain as she holds an antidepressant pill in her hand. Her room is messy, papers scattered around. She is crying, feeling isolated and misunderstood. Sophie's voice echoes in a voice-over.

SOPHIE (V.O.) When I was at my lowest, I desperately sought a real human connection, something that went beyond clichés and superficial interactions...

FLASHBACK – INT. THERAPIST'S OFFICE – DAY

Sophie is sitting in a comfortable chair in a THERAPIST's office. She speaks with poignant sincerity.

SOPHIE (with a voice full of sadness) I feel so alone. I see these videos of young people struggling with social interactions like I do, but it doesn't really comfort me. Everything feels superficial, even online chats. I wonder if I'll ever find a real connection.

THERAPIST (with an empathetic look) It's important to remember that the depth of relationships we seek isn't something you easily find in fast digital interactions. Maybe you need something different to truly connect with people.

SOPHIE (nodding, tears in her eyes) Yes, I feel that. It seems like people are more concerned with the quantity than the quality of relationships. Everything feels so... fragmented.

THERAPIST (encouragingly) Your desire to create something more authentic is important. Maybe that's where you'll find a way to change that.

BACK TO CONFERENCE ROOM

Sophie resumes speaking, inspired by her memories but still under pressure.

SOPHIE (with renewed determination) "Unique" is not just an app; it's a vision. A vision of creating deep human connections that can transform people's lives, just as it has for me. I ask you to believe in this vision and give us a chance to prove that a different type of connection is possible.

INVESTOR #1 (looking at the other investors, then back at Sophie) We appreciate your passion, but we still have doubts. We'll need to consider the opportunity further.

The investors murmur among themselves, clearly hesitant. Sophie, though disappointed, maintains her composure. Alex gives her a supportive glance.

ALEX (encouragingly) We'll get through this, Sophie. We're not giving up now.

Sophie takes a deep breath, looking ahead with determination. Her memories of struggle and pain blend with her unwavering resolve.

SOPHIE (resolutely) We can't give up. Not now.

FADE OUT.
