Chapter 1 "New, and Old, Home"

"How did we get this house again?" Carlos asked, watching the landscape go through the car window. "My father gave it to me before he died." Linda said, paying attention to the road as she drove the car to their new home. "Your dad was a very generous man, Linda." Viola said, looking over at Viola beside her. "Yeah, he was." Linda said, remembering the good times she had spent with her father, who had died of kidney disease a week before. Linda couldn't think about living alone, so she decided to have her friends live with her.

"Let's stop talking about that guys." Mary Anna said, leaning her head against the back of Linda's seat. "Let's talk about happy stuff. I don't think Linda wants to talk about her dad right now. Like, what are we gonna do after we get our stuff in? We haven't gone out to buy groceries yet. We all agreed to do that tomorrow. So, what are we gonna eat for dinner tonight?" "How about Chinese?" Fiona asked, finally waking up from her slumber. "We haven't had that in a while." "Sounds good to me." Carlos said, loving any kind of food there was. "I second that." Susanna said, leaning over Mary Anna's seat. "I could stretch out for a bit, since I've been in this trunk for a few hours." "I could have sat back there y'know." Fiona said, stretching her arms. "I know, but no one likes to sit back here anyways." Susanna giggled, making everyone else chuckle with her. "I guess we'll get Chinese then." Linda chuckled, starting to recognize where they were. The house they were all moving into was Linda's childhood home, which she had lived in until she was nine. Linda and her father moved out of there shortly after her mother had left them for an old co-worker of her father's. Another couple had lived in it a few years back, but moved out shortly after the couple's parents had passed away.

After a lot of conversation and driving, Linda and her friends had reached the house. It was a large, light green and white house, surrounded by trees and greenery. The town closest to the house was about 14 miles away, a good enough distance for Linda and her friends. They didn't really like society, and preferred to keep to themselves. They had seen the cruelty and greed of people, and tried to stay out of the public as much as possible.

After getting out of the car, and looking at their new house, Fiona spoke up. "Why is it green?" she asked, not really liking the color. "Dad thought it fit with the landscape, and said it was a welcoming color." Linda replied, remembering that she asked the same question to her dad when she was younger. "I agree with that." Viola said, smiling softly at the house. "Well, welcome home everyone." Linda giggled, looking back at her friends.

After a group hug among the six of them, the friends started to get their stuff out of the car. One by one, the boxes and bags in the car were laid out of the ground beside the car. After everything was out of the car, Linda went up to the front door of the house, and unlocked it. She then walked over to her friends, and picked up a box labeled 'Books.' "Just put the boxes in the living room for now." Linda said, walking back towards the house. "How do we know which room is the living room?" Susanna asked, picking up a box labeled 'Dishes.' "I've already had some movers move in my furniture in the house." Linda said, turning her head towards Susanna. "The living room will have a couch, coffee table, a couple of chairs, a TV stand, and a flat-screen TV in there. You'll see it." Linda then walked back up to the house, and entered through the front door.

As Linda entered the house, she recognized the light blue walls and white framed windows, her black boots thumping against the hardwood floors. She then walked into the living room, and sat the box in her hands on the floor. She then made her way up towards the room she used to live in as a child. After walking up the stairs to the second floor of the house, Linda entered her old room. The bed she had the movers move in was in there, along with her other furniture. Linda traced the light green designs that decorated her walls since she was a child. Linda remembered all of the memories she had made in this room, and the house itself. From her taking care of an injured baby bird, to her father decorating her room walls with the curvy light green patterns, to her last few days in the house. Linda then remembered something that made her go straight to the closet at the back of her room, opening the door to it. She then kneeled down on the hardwood floor, and raised up a piece loose piece of floorboard. There laid small plastic bag, foggy from the dust coating it. After dusting off the bag, Linda opened it, and poured out it's contents into her hand. Out came a golden chained necklace, complete with a golden heart locket. With it was a small charm bracelet, however, it did not have any charms. Linda sighed with relief upon seeing the contents of the bag. "Good thing nobody found these." Linda sighed to herself, standing up from the floor after putting back the loose floorboard. She then walked over to her nightstand beside her bed, and opened the top drawer of it. She then placed the jewelery in the drawer, and closed it. She then heard Mary Anna calling her from downstairs.

"Hey, Linda, come help us get these boxes in!" Mary Anna called from downstairs. "I know you're excited to be here, we are too, but we're getting hungry." "Yeah, the sooner we get this stuff in, the sooner we go eat." Carlos laughed from downstairs. "Alright, alright, I'm coming!" Linda called, walking out of her room. "I was just making sure everything was here. I paid those movers good money to move and hook everything up in here. I'm not going to let them slack off without a penalty." "We get it, Linda." Fiona laughed, seeing Linda come down the stairs. "Just help us with this stuff, so we can hurry up and go eat. THEN you can show us where everything is." "Okay, I'm helping." Linda laughed, hitting Fiona playfully on the arm, and giving Carlos one too. "Mary Anna's outside, if you want to give her one too." Carlos chuckled, walking out the front door. Linda followed him, going out to give Mary Anna a playful hit on the arm, and to help move in the boxes and bags they had brought with them.
