Chapter 7: I Guess You Were Right
*I included one of my favorite TS songs in this chapter! The tune and words match this part of the story (sort of)*
"I ship you guys," Kai said as the crew rested on a ledge. Everyone turned to the red ninja, confused.
"Ship who?" Zane asked. "I do not believe you can package and ship one of us to someone else."
"I ship Conia," Kai said simply. "You guys go together, well, even better than Jay and Nya do."
"Hey!" The masters of water and lightning glared at Kai, who laughed.
"Just kidding. I mean, they're Yin and Yang and you guys aren't, yet," he added. Cole and Vania blushed, and Cole wondered for the umpteenth time how lucky he had to be for Vania to like him. He felt like he didn't deserve to love such a heavenly girl, let alone have her love him.
Suddenly, Cole felt an overwhelming amount of energy come through him. It felt like he was being possessed, though he knew that he was in control. Cole stood up and backed away from the ledge. As he did, he heard Nya gasp and step back with him. The same thing must've happened to her too.
"Get away from me!" Nya and Cole cried out simultaneously. Their eyes began glowing, and their hands were balled into fists.
"Nya!" Jay shouted, trying to make his way to his Yang. Zane stopped him and dragged the blue ninja backwards away from what seemed to be a burst of water.
"Cole!" Vania ran towards the master of earth, shaking him vigorously. "Cole, are you okay?"
"Vania, move! I don't know what's happening! Get back!" A moment later, Cole slammed into the face of the mountain, and the rock beneath his feet shook ominously. Nya fell over and let out a cry of surprise. Her body trembled as water collected around her, forming what seemed to be a whirlpool suspended in midair. It hit Vania in the chest and she stumbled backwards.
Just as Vania regained her balance, Cole's hands pounded down on the ledge, sending the queen tumbling off the edge.
"VANIA!" Everyone shouted. Jay, Zane, Lloyd, and Kai reached out to grab her, but it was too late. She had fallen.
At that instant, Cole came back to his senses. He dove towards Vania, flinging himself off the ledge. He slammed his fists together, his lava arms glowing with elemental energy, and a slab of rock shot out from under him. Cole and Vania dropped onto the newly-created ledge, though only one of them could handle the sudden landing.
"Vania!" Cole stood up, dazed, and crawled to the queen. She was barely breathing, and her eyes were closed.
"Cole," she said weakly. "It hurts."
"I know. It's going to be okay, we'll get you help."
"No, Cole," Vania said in a soft voice, giving the master of earth a kiss. She tried to keep her tone light, though the weight of her words had already crushed Cole. "I'm not going to make it. I guess you were right, Cole. You were right. I should've stayed in the middle. We shouldn't have..." She slipped away, her last breath hanging in the air.
*A/N Not so positive for the master of positivity...*
