Chapter 10: The Story of Cole, Wu, and Vania

"Perfect. We're stuck." Lloyd sighed and looked around at his friends. They were all frozen in awkward positions, trying their best to make themselves comfortable under different piles of rubble. No one was seriously injured, but the heaps of rock holding everyone back were impossible to move. Lloyd knew that he wasn't the only one who wished Cole had stayed back. The master of earth had the capability to move mountains. Pushing away a few rocks would be nothing to Cole. Jay decided to break the silence and state the obvious.

"If Cole was here, we'd be out in a jiffy," the master of lightning whined.

"Yes," Zane agreed. "Hopefully, Cole and the others are on their way to save us." The ice ninja wasn't showing it, but he was quite uncomfortable in his spot. One rock had damaged his right arm quite badly and it seemed that it would need a repair for it function properly again. It didn't cause him any pain though, and Zane figured that he would be able to deal with it later.

"But are they okay?" Misako asked worriedly. Though it wasn't easy to pick up, everyone knew that she was more concerned with the emotional well being of Cole than anything else. After all, Misako had experienced the trials and tribulations of love, and she knew that the end of young love was often the end of one's happiness. Wu had changed after she chose Garmadon over him. It was evident in the way he spoke to his brother, the way he spoke to Misako, and the way he saw love in general. Wu had once told Nya that he wasn't interested in meddling with her love affairs. Unbeknownst to them, Misako had been listening to their conversation.

Years later, Misako could recall the pang of regret she felt when Wu had revealed that he'd been scarred for life. She had tried to make sure that Cole wouldn't feel what Wu had go through. She had tried to get him with Vania. But Vania was gone forever. Wu had to watch as his crush and his brother love each other. Cole would never be able to see Vania again. The same amount of aching, just different kinds of pain.

"They're fine," Lloyd assured his mother. "Kai's fireball saved me once. It should've worked for them too."

"All right," Misako said without much confidence.

"I- I think I can get out!" Akita announced. She wiggled around a bit, trying to free her legs and shoulders. The Formling then closed her eyes and did a backflip out of the pile of rocks she had been buried under. Once she was out, she turned to Lloyd, her 3 tails wagging in delight. Akita performed another backflip, and as she did, her paws kicked a large rock off Lloyd's back. The green ninja wriggled out and ran to his crush.

"Thank you, Akita! What would we do without you?"

"You would still be stuck," she said simply. Lloyd shook his head and smiled, amused by Akita's straightforwardness. The two sweethearts stared one another lovingly, lost in each other's eyes.

"Um, a little help?" Jay said, interrupting the moment. Akita and Lloyd blushed and turned away to free their friends. As Akita backflipped towards Misako, Lloyd gave the blue ninja a disappointed look.

"Seriously, Jay?"

"Sorry." Lloyd sighed and went to help this friend.

Once everyone had been freed, Lloyd surveyed the area around him. The ledge was practically dangling off the mountain and the ground was a thousand feet away.

"Everyone, get back on the path!" The group ran off the ledge moments before it crumbled. They all sighed in relief and turned to Lloyd, eager to hear his plan.

"Er, I don't really have any ideas," the green ninja confessed. "But Zane, could you maybe make an ice path down the mountain?" He turned to his friend.

"I don't think so," Zane replied. "My arm is damaged. Even if it wasn't, I do not have enough energy to make a path all the way down."

"Are you okay?" Akita asked, concerned.

"I'm fine," Zane assured her. "But my elemental powers are much weaker than usual."

"Okay, then," Lloyd said, more aggressively than he would've liked. He couldn't help it. He was worried. Worried about Cole, worried about Nya, and worried about his mother. Vania's death hurt them the most, and there was nothing he could do about it.

"Hey, look!" Jay cried out. "A secret passage!" Everyone turned to where Jay was pointing, and sure enough, there was a door in the mountain. It was made of rock, and usually, it would've been quite hard to spot. The rumbling of the mountain had shaken the door open, and the hole behind the makeshift door was just big enough for everyone to crawl through.

"Well, it looks like we're going to do what Cole, Wu, and Vania did," Jay said as he descended down the rock steps inside the hole. The group fell silent and everyone held back their tears.

Vania, everyone thought. Vania.
