Chapter 3: How to be rich in another world 101
Seven years have passed since the catastrophe, yet the true extent of its impact remains shrouded in mystery, with scholars and researchers struggling to uncover the underlying changes it has wrought upon the world. Various phenomena such as dungeon formations, Mana, and even the acquisition of skills remain enigmatic to this day.
What is known, however, is that everyone has access to only two skills. Although exceptions exist for humans blessed by the Angel Race, who can attain an additional skill slot, attempts to research this phenomenon have proven futile, leading to the conclusion that there are no exceptions to this rule. Or are there?
Some skills, such as luck-based abilities or future sight, are prohibited from certain types of events due to their potential to influence outcomes where chance plays a crucial role. Items capable of detecting such skills were invented three years ago as the use of QCs began to rise and daily life stabilized.
Instead of pursuing the typical novel cliche of finding an S-tier item, I decided to gamble away my entire measly fortune. (Kids, do not try this if you get reincarnated unless you're like me.)As I walked into one of the Golden Gambling Houses, also known as Golden Gamble, nearby, I grabbed a number and waited for it to be called.
"Number 908!"
Approaching booth 908, the attendant greeted me with a friendly smile.
"Welcome! How may I assist you?"
Requesting tickets that could potentially yield a high return with a low chance of winning, the receptionist's smile widened, but she quickly adopted a poker face.
Handed the tickets, I muttered under my breath while receiving them, "Save."
As I filled out the ticket, she returned with a rectangular device resembling a large phone."If you're finished, could you place your hand on the device so we can check your skill? This is to prevent any manipulation. You needn't worry; it will light green if you are clear and red if you possess a luck-based skill."
Though I trusted my memories, this made me uneasy. What if there was a chance it was wrong?Placing my hand on the device, I broke into a cold sweat.
Fortunately, the device lit up green, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Please give me your ticket, and you may leave. Thank you, and please come again!"Now you might be wondering, isn't the <<Save and Load>> skill considered a skill? Wouldn't it technically affect the outcome?
To answer this question, we must revisit the time this body awakened a skill.
When 'I' had awakened the <<Save and Load>> skill, I rushed to get it tested as it could impact my chances of being recruited by the government or a Hero's squad.
Arriving at the government building that tested individuals for awakened skills, I underwent a series of tests. The device they provided flashed green when one possessed a skill and red when one did not.
You can guess what happened next.
The <<Save and Load>> skill is not registered as a skill, even though I can use it freely. This means I still have two skill slots that I can utilize freely. If I were to somehow be blessed by a member of the Angel Race, wouldn't that grant me four skills? Although the reason why the <<Save and Load>> cannot be detected as a skill eludes me, it doesn't change the fact that it's currently immensely helpful. 'I' really should have utilized it more often...
This skill is the true S-tier cheat among all cheat skills.
Scrolling through the online weapon shop, excitement surged within me. From magic swords to B-tier items, the impressive array of weapons boasted the capability to enhance my combat prowess. Scrolling the day away without making any purchases, I waited for the winners to be announced...
As expected, I blew away all the hard-earned money 'I' had. Though there was a 0.0001% chance of winning, it would have been amusing if I had won. Chuckling to myself as I looked at the results, I heaved a sigh and muttered, "Load."
Upon opening my eyes, the receptionist was handing me the tickets. Carefully taking them, I noted down the results I had seen. Inwardly, I was shocked by the omnipotence of the skill. It truly worked just like the memories had shown.
Repeating the steps from the previous day, I exited the Golden Gamble Branch while trying to recall the items I had taken an interest in during the previous reset. With the amount of money I would be earning from now on, price would never be an issue.
Thank goodness for my great memory, be it in this life or the previous. Hmm... Maybe not thank that God. You know what I mean.
As the results of the lottery were announced the next day, I couldn't help but suppress a smirk of satisfaction. As my name was called among the lucky few, I maintained a facade of nonchalance, though inwardly, I was bubbling with excitement. The odds were always stacked in my favor thanks to the <<Save and Load>> skill.
Exiting the lottery hall after collecting my winnings, I couldn't help but revel in the envious looks from onlookers.
"I'm rich!" I couldn't help but exclaim to myself.
Driven by the thrill of success, I would repeatedly enter multiple lotteries within the day and collect my winnings the next.
The second time I collected my winnings, however, I was restricted from entering or participating in any gambling related to the Golden Gamble afterwards due to 'suspected cheating' and 'luck manipulation skills'. Though I proved that I did not possess such a skill or any means of cheating, I had apparently caused them to suffer a significant loss.
Though this setback was considerable, it was a small price to pay for the winnings I had amassed. The poor owner of the Golden Gamble must be in tears...
While skills were important, I did not hesitate to skip through that section. In the first year, there was a student who would become a stepping stone for the Main Character. He had acquired the skill by stumbling upon it coincidentally. Due to his timid nature, he ended up being persuaded by third-rate extras that the Main Character was too arrogant.
If the student had delved further into the mechanics of the skill, he would have become an S-tier Hero easily. That's how overpowered the skill was. I was tempted to search for it later on according to the situation.
Right now, I currently have a little over 1 billion QCs. Items could not be held if the user's rank does not exceed the requirement. Unless stated otherwise, an F-tier Hero cannot use an item that is D-tier. Therefore, I must take that into consideration before choosing any weapons.Deciding on a pair of E-tier daggers, a subspace that could fit a small room, healing potions, and stat-increasing potions, I decided to immediately purchase them. It's not like the items are going to cause a huge dent in my wallet, and with my <<Save and Load>> skill, I could just go gambling again.
Stat-increasing potions, though useful, have their limits. Intaking more than the body can withstand could cause harm rather than good. Hence, I decided that training myself was more important. I have to get used to the daggers that I had bought and increase my stats. Since the Hero Academy has not started and I did not have any training rooms, I decided to rent one.The strength, speed, charm, defense, mana, and stamina are all graded from E to S+. Although SSS+ is added later on, the current limit for humans right now is S+.
Now guess what grade my stats are.
The last time they were checked, they were all E—the lowest grade amongst all.Except for Charm, which had a D grade, they were all E grade. Why was I a lazy but handsome bum who did not do any training...As the days flew by with training and gambling, the day of the Hero Academy entrance exam was soon approaching. May the Main Character win this time. With my help, surely he won't fail?
