Chapter Five: The Job

Enrique had come in to tell Verone that they were back so Verone told him to bring them in as Eve, Monica and Verone made their way into the front garden. Eve smiled when she saw Brian and Roman walk over to the three as the blonde handed Verone the small yellow envelope.

"Hey man, you got something to eat in there? We hungry" Roman asked and in that moment Eve really wanted to slap him. She couldn't have Roman screwing this up for her.

"Sit them by the pool" Verone told Monica before walking away.

"Not bad guys, not bad" Eve quietly said to the two men before leaning closer to Brian "Keep your dog on a leash though" She referred to Roman and Brian couldn't help but laugh.

"Got it" He nodded and Eve sent him a smile. They then followed Monica to the backyard as her and Eve started up a conversation between the two.

"Whatcha checkin' her out for?" Roman whispered to Brian when he saw the blonde looking directly at Eve's ass.

"I'm not checkin' her out, bro" Brian quickly defended himself.

"Yes you were" Roman snapped back making Eve roll her eyes because even though they were 'whispering' her and Monica could hear everything they was saying.

"You three sit down and make yourself comfortable while I go find Verone" Monica told them as they all took a seat at the table.

"No I wasn't" Brian argued.

"I seen you checking her out bro!" Roman quietly yelled at him while Eve sat across from them with her guard up. It was already weird without her gun strapped to her waist as her eyes scanned around the property for any possible threats.

Brian had noticed that as he frowned and looked at her for a second "Okay, I was now shut up!" Brian finally admitted but denied making eye contact with Roman.

"No, you shut up! Don't tell me to shut up" Roman said, his voice getting slightly louder.

"How about you both just shut the fuck up"'Eve spoke making the both of them shut up as Monica came back over to the table with two glasses of wine.

"Verone will be out in a second" She sat down next to Eve and handed her the glass of wine and Eve gladly took it after thanking her.

"You sure are cozy up in this big ol' mansion" Roman said to Monica who just stared at him unbothered "Sleepin' with the enemy. . ." He trailed off as she grabbed a strawberry from the fruit platter in front of them and popped it into her mouth.

Shutting Roman's big mouth was Verone walking over to them with the yellow package in his hands. As soon and Brian and Roman laid eyes on him, they quickly stood up.

"No, no. Sit down" He told them and took a seat at the front of the table, setting down the package.

"Nice Ferrari you got in the driveway" Brian attempted to break the silence as he started to relax in his chair.

"I'm glad you like it" Verone had a proud smirk on his face from the compliment. He then opened the package and turned it upside so the contents of the envelope could fall right out.

Roman was stunned when a cigar and cigar cutter fell out and onto the table "We did all that for a damn cigar?" Roman frowned.

"No" Verone pointed at them "You did that for a job. Do you really believe that I would let somebody impound my car? The boatyard is mine. Oh, by the way, you two owe me a gate. I'll just take it off your cut"

Roman laughed sarcastically "Off our cut" He mumbled before looking at Brian next to him "I like that" He watched as Verone cut the end of the cigar off and took a lighter out of his suit pocket. Lighting the cigarette, he then placed it his mouth and inhaled a puff of smoke.

"So what's the job you got for us anyway?" Brian looked at Verone.

"Come with me" Verone said as everyone stood up to follow him "The house has ears in it. I have  something I want you to carry from North Beach to the keys" Verone threw his cigarette that was in his mouth onto the grass while Eve's eyes were scouting around his property because whatever she sees, she can remember.

"What is it?" Brian asked, pushing his luck to get anything out of the man.

"Just put in the car what I tell you to, drive to the destination and don't let anybody stop you. You understand?"

Brian and Roman nodded "Yeah. Any chance of cop trouble?" Brian asked and Verone shook his head.

"Me and Eve can buy you a window of time but it's not gonna be open for very long" He came to a halt "If you make it. . .then I'll personally hand you a hundred G's at the finish line" He finished, a smirk on his face.

"Make it a hundred G's each, papi" Roman added in causing Brian to glare at him "Look man, obviously your pockets ain't nervous" Roman leaned forward to touch Verone's pocket before the man shoved his hand away.

"Don't ever touch me" Verone angrily pointed at him.

"Like I said we hungry" Roman took a bite out of the piece of food he took from the table. A smug smile on his face until Brian glared at him once again making his smile drop.

"I got an idea" Verone turned around to look at everyone "Why don't you two boys join us at the club tomorrow night?" He then grabbed Eve's hand and pulled the blonde towards him making her stiffen up slightly "And of course you too Eve, well that is if you want to"

"I would love to" Eve smiled at him, the fake smile that made your cheeks hurt.

"Yeah" Monica nodded "Pearl at midnight?"

"Sounds good. It'll give us a chance to get to know each other better" Eve stood next to Verone as his arm that snaked around her waist didn't go unnoticed by Brian when he stretched his hand out for Verone to shake.

He nodded and shook Brian's hand "We'll see you all tonight" He finalised before turning to look at Eve "You staying or are you going love?"

That made Brian stop in his tracks and look back at the girl hoping she'd choose to go with them "Actually I'll go, I need to freshen up a bit" She nodded "Brian is it?" She asked the blonde because as much as Verone knows, Brian and Roman don't know Eve at all and that's how she needed it to stay.

"You wouldn't mind dropping me off at my place, would you?" She asked the blue eyed blonde who shook his head in response "Great. Oh and it's Eve by the way"

"Brian as you already know and this is Roman" He joined in, smiling at her.

"Nice to meet you both" Eve told the two men as she looked at Verone again "Verone, I will see you tonight"

"Yes you will" He smiled and placed a kiss on her cheek before removing his arm from around her waist and letting her leave with Brian and Roman until he started to shout.

"Hey you!" He shouted at Roman as the three turned around "Pockets aren't empty" Verone started at him and in that moment, Eve really wanted to kill him.

"Damn bruh" Roman muttered, putting his hand in his pocket to grab the cigar cutter he had taken.

"I'll take my cutter back" Verone said as Roman walked over to him.

"Stupid ass" Brian mumbled, shaking his head while looking at Verone with an apologetic expression on his face.

"Hey man, I figured you had like twelve of these" Roman almost whispered to him, feeling really embarrassed now.

"Get out of here, just get out of here" Verone didn't even spare him another glance as the trio made their way to Brian and Roman's car that were parked out front.

"Same old Roman doing the same old stupid shit. Runnin' your mouth, insulting people, stealin' Verone's shit!" Brian quietly yelled at him.

"You pull some shit like that again and it's gonna blow our cover!" Eve added in before walking a bit in front of them to have a few minutes to cool off.

"What you think I'm gonna let somebody stare me down? I didn't let nobody stare me down in prison, I'm not gonna let anybody stare me down here either" Roman snapped at the blonde "And you, I'll take my cutter back" Roman attempted to talk like Verone "His rich ass"

"From here on out, I do the talking" Brian told him as they got to their cars where Eve was already there and stood next to Brian's car.

"Looks like to me that you wanna do a little more than just talking!" Roman opened his car door and looked at Brian who had his arms resting on top of his car while his body leant against the door. Luckily, Brian had already unlocked the car for Eve to get in so she couldn't hear this.

"And what's that supposed to be mean?" Brian glared at his supposedly best friend.

"It means you're always gettin' into trouble over a female Brian!" Roman argued before he got into his car and slammed the car door shut.

Brian sighed and got into his car where Eve was waiting for him on her phone "You all good?" She asked him, knowing him and Roman had gotten into another small argument.

Brian nodded "Yeah, I'm alright" He then started the engine and pulled out of Verone's driveway "You really want dropping off at your house?"

Eve smiled and shook her head "Oh no, not this early. Why you got some other plans I don't know about?"

"Actually yeah, I'm gonna meet with some friends. You wanna come?" He asked with a soft smile "Sure why not"
