"Heyyy....handsome..."

I dropped the phone and my sister came over to me after hearing the crash.

"It's her," I whisper-yelled. " How did you not know?" I asked my sister.

"WHAT?" she screamed, bending down to retrieve the receiver. " I will give her a piece of..."

I stopped her mid-sentence. " It's okay Nayoni, whatever she wants, I will handle it."

" Are you sure?" She asked me, concern evident in her tone for me.

" Yeah," I breathed.

I put on a brusque tone as I placed the receiver to my ear.

" Long time no see. What do you want?"

" You, of course," she purred, and I felt like throwing up. Did she think she could say whatever she wanted and get away?

" Oh really? I am sure you say this to everyone you want to sleep with too."

" No, only you baby.."

BULLSHIT.

" Cut the crap and tell me what you want."

"You. But you just won't believe me."

" Sorry. Care to tell me why I should? After you treated me like a dog, stringing around my feelings when you knew how much I cared for you?"

" I am really very sorry Neet," she said, suddenly reminding me of the times we were close. " I was young and foolish and I didn't realize how much I loved you. I have changed now and I know I can give you my heart."

My heart started going " thud thud" when I heard that, but I pressed my hand hard on it to muffle the noise.

Stop it,  I urged my mind.

" I know that you love me too. Say it baby, say it that you want me too."

Did she think she could manipulate me like that??? Did she think I was still that pussy who would fall for her charms again?

" I don't want you, " I said, my voice quivering. I was pretty sure she could hear the unsurety in my voice but I still carried on strongly. I wouldn't fall for her crap again.
" I really don't and I never will."

Saying this, I slammed the phone on the receiver, causing my sister to suddenly lose hold on the cup she was holding. The tea spilt all over the carpet and the cup shattered as it hit the ground. But that wasn't her immediate concern.

" Are you alright Navneet?" She asked, and I ran over to her and enveloped her in a hug.

" Oh my darling baby bro," she cooed and I was reminded of my mom. " I will protect you always."

I just sat there in my sister's embrace feeling like the smallest thing in the world. I felt like I was twelve all over again, when my sister made me sit on her lap and nursed my knee after I fell down while playing football.

"Shhh, Shhh it's alright.  Let it all out. "

" That bitch called to say she loves me and wants me. Apparently she was young and foolish then," I said,  making quotation marks in the air for young and foolish.

"She's just playing with you again.  What nerve and audacity does she have to call you like this after so many years and mess with your feelings a second time?  But you won't fall for her.  Do you hear me Navneet? You won't. And you're going to give this other girl a chance alright? The pretty little vet? "

" I will see about that.  I am still not ready for a relationship. "

" Who said anything about a relationship? Talk to her more, don't shy away.  Get to know her better.  You never know what life will throw at you. "

This brought a small smile to my face.

" Alright sis.  You're such a motivational speaker. Did you think of taking that up as your profession? " I asked, my mood already returning to normal.

" Thanks, " she replied blushing." I did consider it once though."

" Haha so anyway what is the plan for today? Shall we have a siblings day out? "

" Sure, I thought you would never suggest it.  Let's pack a picnic basket. "

Saying this,  she rushed inside the kitchen to start preparing sandwiches.

I looked at her, wondering what I had done to get such a pure, bubbly,  cheerful girl as my sister. And then I wondered why there wasn't even a single guy who showed any interest in her. Were they all so dense?  Didn't they realise that she was a gem and that they wouldn't be able to find anyone else with such a pure heart?
I am pretty sure the one Destined for her was as shy as she was. I thought back to all the guys who had come to our parents' place to visit her and how they had all refused her. A blazing anger stirred within me and I promised myself right then that I would find her perfect someone. After all,

She truly was, above all, my everything.
