1. A turquoise lighter

- Alice! We've arrived! Look!

She reaches to me excitedly, jumping up and down. The glint in her eyes looks like all the stars we see on the outside, I run to the large window we made, months ago. The planet in front of us, our goal, looks ethereal. It has a beautiful deep turquoise color, some spots even look dark green, the clouds look like a fluffy light mattress.

For a second, I want to jump, but I happily restrain myself. We'll be able to land in less than an hour, I can feel the nerves crippling inside me. What if we made a mistake, what if living there is impossible in the end? Even being so nervous, I can't stop smiling. After, what, four years of planning this one-way trip, we're at the point of arriving. All of the sudden, I see something I would qualify as really big and scary appearing in front of our spaceship. I stutter:

- E-Eden there is a meteorite, right in front of us.

Her gaze turns to me, flustered and confused. I find it fascinating how rapidly her face went from pure joy and excitement to this kind of intense fear. Not waiting for her to answer, I speed as fast as I can towards our rescue cabin. I have no idea of how much time we've got left before dying tragically because of this enormous stone, or whatever it is.

I grab my weapon. It seems so ridiculous in my hands, a tiny turquoise lighter. But yet, this piece of pure magic is the most important object I've ever had. I remember my father, handing it to me on my 15th birthday. He had taken me on his motorbike, talking nervously all along the road.

He looked so serious, handing me a large suitcase, having hid the lighter in it. That day, I laughed his present off. By then, all I wanted was a place in a concert of One Direction or a new sweater. Oh how ungrateful I was, I had no idea this little turquoise lighter would hold in such a power.

See, it's able to capture the negative energies in the most life-threatening situations. As a counterpart, it can get really dangerous when used in the wrong situations. It can kill your parents, for example. I shake my head, thinking about my deceased family isn't really the best idea if I want to save me and my sister. I take a look at my clothes, and roll my eyes. Why did I have to put on these jeans today? It's way too skinny to succeed in saving our lives!

I call Eden, in vain, I stand up after putting on my space combination, made to protect me as good as possible, thin but solid, and search for her. After what feels like hours of searching but probably took me two minutes, I find her. She's on her sofa, all curled up, quietly searching for some peace in the smell of her teddy rabbit. I approach and kneel down, tilting her head up with one finger.

- Hey, it will be fine. I have the situation under control.

It's a blatant lie, she knows it and I know it. But lies, even when she knows they are lies, are needed to feel a bit secure in a situation like this. A whisper, barely audible, escapes from her lips.

- I'm scared of quitting the ship Alice. I don't want to get out of here when there's a meteorite right in front of us.

I close my eyes, trying to repel the feeling of exasperation. Mental health issues need to be treated with care, I must not make her feel even worse by yelling at her.

- Look, I need you to follow my orders right now. If you trust me on this one, I'll build you a room just like this one once we're safe, once we get in the Frozen Bubbles. Can you please do this for me?

She considers the situation for a few seconds, and shakes her head in approval. I sigh of relief, and spend the next half hour packing the essentials in my backpack, making sure she's okay. As I offer her a bottle of water, a big noise makes her scream. The whole ship trembles, we are speeding down really fast. I attach us together with a solid rope, and murmur, determined to survive:

- Okay, Eden, I need you to jump in three... Two... One, NOW!

As asked, she jumps through the open doors of our ship, I immediately follow her. The lack of gravity quickly stops our fall, and we try to swim around, to discover what exactly has broken our pearl of technology. To our surprise, there's no meteorite pressed in our ship. It looks like a strange mishmash of turquoise leafs and delicate wooden trunks, intertwined around a smooth and round piece of iron.

I squint my eyes, and notice people getting out of the strange thing that collided into us. Even at this distance, I can see they're human. Nice! Maybe our chance of surviving is better than we had thought! I hope they'll take us onto their planet rapidly, the bonbons of oxygen me and Eden are wearing are made to last for only two hours.

Wait, did I just say we had a slight chance of surviving? I'm sorry, my bad. Half an hour has passed, and I would love to be dead. What's happening is worse than being killed. I feel exhausted, my foot is bleeding and Eden has been taken somewhere, by someone I guessed is an old woman, but I can't be sure. I'm having a fight with three of those mysterious humans, their faces have been covered up and they seem used to fighting in the middle of space.

In utter desperation, I take my turquoise lighter out of my bag, in a quick movement of hands. Their grip on me loosens nearly immediately, I scream out the pain of being released that fast, it's not like they care. One of my aggressors grabs my magic utensil out of my hand, and observes it. To my astonishment, he says some words in English:

- She can enter. Lead her to the Frozen Bubbles. Her sister will be happy to see her.
