CHAPTER 1

KEIRA'S POV

4 YEARS AGO

It's my first day at the University.

It feels so overwhelming.

The Building is huge, and I cannot even fathom the idea of me being here in New York away from my family especially away from Dad. However, being a daughter of a famous Hotelier I have a help and a body guard with me. Though the body guard never bothers me. I cannot barely see him. Because I pleaded Dad not to let him be near me. I don't want to intimidate my classmates or anyone in the University. I want to stay as far away from the limelight. I don't want any attention. Infact, since my apartment is close I used to walk home.

Portugal is so different from New York. Everything in here goes fast. I felt as if even my steps are numbered. I can't really help but compare my life back home and here.

But on a lighter side, New York has a variety of store close to you. Unlike back home where you will be able to see stores miles apart or at least not as close as what they have in New York.

I really missed home. The people and the peace. 

Here in New York Everyone seems so busy, everything is moving so fast. The thought of time really got me, I need to find my building before my class starts.

I was looking at my card standing in front of a building when suddenly a ball hit my head!

"Ugh!" I gasped touching my head. My books fell on the ground so I immediately start to collect my things from the ground when someone helped me take my books and placeover to me.

"The University is quite fascinating, isn't it?" He said trying to figure out my lost facial expression." I think you have to be more careful next time." He said and winked at me. He is the hottest guy that I ever laid my eyes on.

I wasn't able to utter a word, I think what happened has not registered yet in my mind. Plus the fact of his handsome face smiling at me blew me away. I was just brought back to reality when he offered me his hands.

"Daniel McDonaugh!" he said offering his hands.

"Keira Soarez!" I said as I received his hands.

" A---Actually today is my first day and I am looking for my building" I said as I tried to calm my nerves down. I reluctantly showed him my papers with my building location.He took it from my hand and start to rub his jaw which makes him look more appealing to my eyes. Taking my chances to ask for his help. Anyway, he was the first person that I bumped to. Better take my chances.

" Let me see." He said scanning my paper.

"Hmnn. I think we have the same class at fourth period, But, then my first period class is in the same building" he said and grabbed the ball that almost knocked me out.

" Wait for me here, I will bring this back and I will get you to your building." He said as he walk towards his friends and within no time came back.

He is just wearing a t-shirt and it looks really good on him. He looks like a bad boy in his outfit but his face looks like a total Prince Charming in Disney movies. He is walking back towards my direction while smiling at me.

"Shall we?" He said as he motioned his hands for us to go.

 As we are walking together I noticed how he is teasing with every other girl that we passed by. I just quietly walk beside him pretending that I didn't notice anything. Finally, we reached to my class.

"Thank you for helping me." I said and gave him a friendly smile

"Nah, Don't mention it! See you around!" He said and winked at me as he turned his back and waved from his back.

"At least, he was helpful." I said to myself while I arranged my things and find myself a seat.

"There you are!" My best friend Lilly tapped my shoulder and pulled me to a hug.

"Oh dear, I was calling you, where have you been? It's really good to see you! " I hugged her tight as we settled in our seats.

"Oh sorry,I haven't checked my phone in a while, I was in a hurry.I didn't realize you're calling me, I'm sorry."  she said now checking her phone.

"Oh its fine, at least we both managed to arrive." I said as i rolled my eyes and we both laugh.

I managed to finish the day as light as a feather floating in the air. I never thought that it could be that fast.

AFTER A WEEK

I am at the Library to do some research. Lilly on the other hand went home early, she is having a very bad period pain so she went home and I volunteered to gather all the necessary materials for our project so we can work on with it together by tomorrow.

I am reading books by books by books and casually taking notes when I felt a tap in my shoulder.

" Hey, what are you up to?" It is Daniel, again, He is wearing that bad boy-prince charming like look grinning at me as if asking me via telepathy if there is anyone who will look as good as he is when he smiles.

" Oh, Hi!" I said. I am really engrossed with my work as I want to get done fast. I want to go home on time. Being aware about time is what I have learn in New York. So I did not mind him and just continued on what I am doing.

" Elements of Style." He said grabbing the book that I am reading.

" Hey! Give it back to me! You jerk!" I said as I tried to take it back from him. But he lifted it up to the air and continues in opening the pages. He was so tall, I bet his height is from 6'3-6'4. So, no way I can ever grab my book back at that height, unless I step in to my chair. But I don't want to caught anyone's attention, I sat back down when he lifted it higher.

"Please give It back, I really need to finish my research!" I pleaded in resignation.

He looked at me and gave me back the book.

"Ok, I don't want to see a little kitten crying here." He said as he gave me a boyish grin

"You are such a bully! Why do you have to do that! What's wrong with you! You are so annoying!" I hissed at him.

"Then you are such a nerd. Why do you have to care so much about this crap!" he said tossing my books

"Then why do you care? It's none of your freaking business. Will you please leave me alone?!" I said as I took my things with me preparing to go. 

"Is he an idiot asking me if why do I care about this so much. That is why we came here for. To study. Jerk!" I talked to myself. I left him without letting him answer me back. I heard him heave a sigh as I turned my back on him and go.

I heard him say a word but I did not mind and went away.

I finally left the library and walk down the stairs making my way out of the building. I have decided to finish what I'm doing at home. Besides, I know he is never going to leave me alone.

I'm way pass the corridors then I heard Daniel talk again at my back.

"Nerdy, why so serious? I was just trying to annoy you!" he said at my back

"Do I look like I care of what you want to do?!" I snapped at him. 

"Why does he have to be this annoying? Ugh!" 

 I am already brisk walking. I want to leave this building as fast as I could so this jerk will leave me alone. But he is so persistent. He is walking fast behind me.

"Strong words kitty cat!" He said as he grab my arms.

"What do you want?!" I yelled at him in so much irritation and frustration

He smiled and exposed his perfect set of teeth. He is really so handsome, I thought to myself. But I remembered him annoying me so I stopped my thought with that realization.

"Nothing." He said and let me go in a blank facial expression but with a smile in his eyes.

Days past.

Daniel and I became friends or whatever just plain schoolmate or a classmate perhaps. He will flirt with different girls around but then to me I don't understand why he keeps on annoying me. At times he will really get on my nerves and at times he will be so sweet, caring and protective. I don't really get what he is up to. So, I just did not mind what he is trying to portray with me.

UNTIL ONE DAY

AFTER 3 YEARS

Lilly and I just went out from the cafeteria where we are discussing about something. We are now on our way under the big tree. Where we used to hang out after class. The weather is so nice and we can sit under the tree and do some of our works like we used to do.

I was sipping on my Kale juice now and checking on my phone when I felt Lilly elbowed me.

"Hey, I think they are coming here." Lilly said in excitement.

Knowing Lilly, I know she is talking about boys again. So I just rolled my eyes and continue browsing on my phone. Not minding what she said. Instead I asked her if she would want to go to the grocery with me.

"Lilly, I'm asking you. Do you want to hit the shop after school?" I asked her still browsing my mobile.

"If you would like me too, then why not." I heard a familiar voice behind me. I looked around and saw Lilly already talking to Ryan. Daniels friend. Oh well. I guess I'm going alone tonight. I thought and stood up! Not realizing that Daniel is just beside me.

"Ugh!" I groaned as I hit my head to his

"Aw!" He exclaimed touching his forehead.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to." I said touching my temples.

"Nah! Its fine, what about you did you get hurt?" He asked, concern is visible in his handsome face.

" No,its alright" I said half smiling of the thought that we bumped to each other's head.

I froze in my place as he smiled at me. He's so irresistible.

We felt small drips of water falling to our skin. Then he suddenly put his jacket to the top of my head.

"Its going to rain, come on fast, I will drive you home." He said while dragging me

"But, Lilly? " I said and looked in their direction. But I cannot find them this time.

"Come on, you brat! We will get wet, or do you want to get wet with me under the rain?" He said wiggling his eyebrows to me.

"Dream on!" I said then rolled my eyes.

Then instantly he grabbed me by the waist with his jacket on our heads and we walked together to his car. It's good that the rain is not yet pouring hard so we mostly remained dry.

"Hey this isn't my way home." I told him when I realized where he was heading. We are now in front of Lemon Grass. A Thai Steakhouse.

"Yes, how about some food before we go home. I craved for some spicy pad thai because of the rain." He said smiling awkwardly. Looks like he totally forgot that I'm with him.

"Oh! You are so impossible!" I said almost laughing. Seeing his reaction, I think he lost his mind.

"Yes kitty cat, drop off your green juice and lets go eat something bad." He said grinning at me

"What do I expect? Bad food for bad boys!" I said containing my laughter when we burst out laughing with each other. That was the most genuine laugh I had with him since I met him.

"So, shall we?" He said when he opened the door for me.

"I never knew that there is gentle side of you. Strange!" I said smiling while I get off his car.

"Oh Come on! Why don't you just enjoy the night with me." He said smiling as we both held each others hand entering the restaurant.

I never thought I would enjoy Daniel's company this much. We talked about different things. Its so easy for him to make me laugh. And it was all so natural. I wonder, why only now. I mean, we met each other during our first day in school. We could've spent more time with each other together. Wait! Did I just said that I want to spend more time with him? Darn! I must be falling for him.

Ever since that moment, Daniel became extra sweet and caring to me. Everyday after class we will spend our days together. He also lessen his party times and chose to be with me most of the time which frightens me. Because I am getting too attached and to be honest, I'm starting to like the way he makes me feel. But, He is the hottest guy in the University. He cannot fall for a girl like me. I'm just too plain for him. Well, judging by the girls that he dated.

So I made up my mind, I have to make things right this time. I don't want him to break my heart. I never want to experience that.

That afternoon, Lilly and I just finished our class and we were eating our lunch together. She took Greek salad and mine is Quinoa salad with walnuts and apples.YUM!

"Graduation is close, what are your plans after school?" I asked Lilly

" I don't have any plans yet. Besides we are too young for that. Say, we go for a holiday?" She batted her eyelashes at me.

"You're impossible!" I rolled my eyes while laughing at his response.

"Hey, what's going on between you and Daniel? Are you guys finally official now?Lilly asked me with her furrowed brows.

"Oh dear, don't give me that look! To be honest, we haven't really talked about that." I told her as I just continued eating my salad

"Boys, oh boys. Same old!" Lilly said as she tossed her salad and continue eating

" What about you and Ryan?" I asked

"You know me Keira, I don't mind, I just go with the flow, and enjoy the breeze of morning dew!" she said dramatically as she inhaled

"You're crazy!" I laughed at her reply

"Actually, I am planning on getting rid of Daniel, I mean, If he is not planning to get into something I don't want to waste my time hanging out with him." I told her and she gave that confused look.

"Do you think you will feel better after doing that?" She asked in concern

"I don't have to feel better in order to know it's the perfect decision, right? Maybe in the future I might feel right." I sigh deeply as I sip a bit of water.

"You know what? I don't really know how we two get along. I mean, You really are an amazing girl Keira. But I wish that you are making the right decision." She said as she hold my hand.

Later that afternoon, I am walking my way out of the University. Lilly already left with Ryan. Anyways my apartment is close to school so I normally walk home. 

"Hi! Why in a hurry." Daniel asked as he try to catch my walking

"Oh hey, Yeah, I got some stuff to do. See yah!" I said as I made my walking go faster and pass Daniel

" Hey are you trying to avoid me?" He stopped me by my arms

"Why would I want to avoid you?" I asked him pretending to look unaffected by his glare

"Oh! Cut the crap kitty!" He said as he pulled me closer to him our face almost touching at each other.

"P..Please, let me go!" I tried to get his grip off me but he's so strong and I'm just so small for him.

"Not unless you tell me, why this sudden change?" He said while his lips are almost touching mine.

"Daniel, Please.." I pleaded him but he was so stubborn that he even pulled me closer to him

"Hmmnn? Yes Kitty?" He is now starting to tease me for goodness sake we our just outside the Uni. 

"Fine! I don't want to hang around with you anymore. I want to stop wasting my time with things which will not get me anywhere. Graduation is 6 months from now and I have to focus." I snapped at him. 

"So I am a waste of time huh?"His face turns grim and loosen his hold on me. 

"Oh no, that is not what I meant. I mean "US". I don't want to spend more time with you and in the end I don't have any assurance about our status." I told him fast before I stopped my self from spilling the truth.

He did not said a word, but then he locked our lips together, kissing me deeply and passionately. I automatically encircled my hands unto his nape and play with his hair while I tiptoed.  Suddenly, I remember where we are, so I pushed him lightly.

"D.. Daniel? What was that all about? " I asked him and he smiled at me.

"You are so naive my kitty. Do you think I would also want to waste time with you? I thought my actions already did the talking." He said as he hugged me tight

"I love you my kitty cat, i hope you feel the same way too." he said and he hugged me and gave me a brief peck in the lips.
