Chapter 1

Hey guys! I just thought i'd give you a little sneak peek of the new story i'm going to write after new year! I've had this idea for a while but i thought it'd be nice for you guys to see this and tell me if you like it, then i'll keep on writing it!! It's a One Direction and Conor Maynard fan fiction based in a school and about zombies, so if those are things you dont like, you may not like this story but give it a go! :D

Picture at the side is Liam (and the outfit he was wearing for school!)

I took a deep breath in and out as I stood and looked at myself in the mirror. I hate this uniform. Why did they think matching a white shirt with a burgundy cardigan and tartan skirt was going to make us any smarter? If anything it made me want to rebel against the school for putting me in this rubbish.

"Yas! Come down now, you're going to be late for school!" My mother shouted up to me for about the seventeenth time this morning. "I've made your lunch for you and breakfast is getting cold!" I may have forgotten to mention the beautiful frilly white ankle socks we also had to wear as part of the new school uniform, which I reluctantly put on before I walked downstairs and was greeted with the smell of warm toast.

"Thanks mum." I half-smiled as she handed me some jam on toast which to my dislike had gone slightly cold because of my delay in getting ready.

"The new uniform looks, um ,nice." My mother wasn't one to lie and it was always obvious and unconvincing when she did. Her green eyes scanned the awful clothing I had to wear a few times before a smirk began to form on her face.

"Yes, thank you. I know it's appalling!" I quickly ate my toast and put the plate in the dishwasher. Grabbing my lunch and throwing it in the tartan backpack the school had also insisted was necessary, I put on my plain shoes and my plain black coat and headed out the front door, shouting a goodbye to my mum as I left. Normally I loved the walk to school; I could listen to my music and breathe in the fresh air before I got to school which made me feel quite relaxed. Now all I could think about was how many people were going to see me in this awful uniform. See, our school's grades were dwindling, the reputation was going down the pan and they decided that a new school uniform would make us all perfect students! Not new teachers, new computers, new curriculum or new teaching facilities and study areas, oh no, it was the uniform that would do it. I fiddled about with my tangled earphones and again wondered how they could go into my pocket so neatly and come out so knotted you'd think a scout kid had been practicing on them. I just managed to get one earphone into my ear when I heard someone walking up behind me. I instantly veered to the right, close to the front gardens of the rows of houses to allow them to pass, but they never did. I fought the urge to turn round and see who it was for about two minutes before I finally wondered what idiot was too stupid to realise you could walk around me. I turned my head round; ready to say something to the person behind me when I noticed who it was and quickly bit my lips together. It was Liam Payne, one of the rebels of the school, on his mobile phone casually dragging his feet along behind him. I swiftly looked back to the front and my mind flooded with the amount of things he could laugh about; My uniform, my hairstyle, my earphones, the way I walked...

"You actually wore it?" He said behind me. I assumed he was on the phone so I kept walking, trying my best not to make myself look like an idiot. "Hey, you!" He said again and I quickly turned round to see him looking at me, waiting for an answer.

"Oh, sorry, I thought you were on the phone!" I said timidly, the nerves already building up. "Well, it's the new uniform, its compulsory!" His brown eyes bore into mine as I spoke.

" Compulsory?" He laughed. "I'd rather go to school naked. What you see me in now is what I'm wearing to my lessons whether they like it or not." I quickly looked him up and down, taking in the outfit he spoke so highly of. He wore a pair of denim jeans with a white tank top and denim sleeveless jacket paired with some black fingerless gloves. His brown hair was styled to perfection. He knew how to dress!

"Wont they send you home for wearing that?" I questioned but his facial expression remained amused.

"Yeah, exactly! I get a day off!" I wasn't prepared to go into detail that it's not as easy as going into school in whatever you want and going home without any further action, but this was Liam I was speaking to and I didn't want to upset him.

"Well, I hope it works out for you." I said with a smile.

"So what year are you in?" He asked as we turned the final corner to get to school.

"The one below you." I answered like a know-it-all.

"Well, nice to meet you. I'm Liam." He held his hand out and I quickly shook it.

"I know who you are!" I said with a laugh. "I'm Yasmin." Liam looked at me quizzically as he took his hand away from mine.

"How do you know who I am?"

"Football practice." I answered quickly. "You're with all the guys practicing football while I have sports. I'm usually running around the track while you practice in the middle of it."

"Well, you never know, I may keep an eye out for you now!" He laughed. "You're not one of those that wears the dorky sports uniform too, are you?" I looked down at the floor, embarrassed. Yes, I did actually wear the dorky uniform they created for sports lessons too. I was always one of those to just go with the rules because it'd be too dangerous for me and my reputation at home to get into trouble and fail at school.

"Umm, there's a possibility I do, yeah." I said, rubbing the back of my neck nervously.

"Alright, Miss Goody-Two-Shoes." Liam laughed again. "Well, have a good first day of the new school year." Liam waved and walked off towards a large group of guys.

"You too." I called back before walking into the school and checking which classroom my new tutor group would be in – Science Room 3. Not too bad, and quite close to where my lessons are situated! I strolled happily into the science room and grabbed one of the available lockers, Number 26, and threw the books I didn't need until later in it. Sports was my first lesson of the day, shortly followed by French. Now I'm not saying I didn't like French, but it's probably one of my worst subjects and I see no point in learning how to say 'my shirt is white'.

"Yasmin!" I heard from behind me and turned round to see my small group of friends walking casually into the classroom.

"Guys! Oh my God, it feels like it's been forever!" I ran over and hugged each of them; Conor, Elle and Sophie, my best friends since I began at this high school. I had actually become best friends with Elle to begin with and she met Sophie and Conor in her Geography class. I wasn't sure about them at first but after Elle persuaded me to allow them to hang about with us we've become an inseparable group!

"I've missed you all so much!" Elle said sweetly. She shook her head, her blondey-brown hair fell perfectly down to frame her face. Her green eyes looked at us all sweetly.

"It seems like this half term lasted forever!" Conor shook his head. Like Elle, he shook his head in disbelief and looked at us all one by one, his blue eyes taking in what we hadn't seen in a long time. His brown hair, however, certainly didn't fall to frame his face. It barely moved.

"Umm, you were in Spain on holiday the whole time!" Sophie said to Conor with her arms folded and a pout on her face.

"Yeah, well I can still miss you guys even when I'm getting a tan!" Conor put his arms out in front of him for me to see his tan.

"Nice..." I nodded in agreement at the golden-brown colour he had managed to obtain while on holiday. "Have a good time?"

"Yeah it was great! There were no illnesses or anything out there either! It was nice to get a break away from it all!" What Conor was referring to, of course, was the recent outbreak of illness that had taken over the city. It started with a few people dropping down at work, people getting ill, not eating or drinking well and ending up in hospital, but it's been getting worse.

"Well, apparently the hospitals have a cure for it now or something, I heard." Sophie added in, her mum was a receptionist in a hospital, so she heard a lot of gossip from the nurses. "But more and more people are getting this virus. Apparently it's causing people to go crazy!" Her blue eyes widened. She twisted a piece of her brown hair between her fingers nervously.

"What do you mean crazy?" I asked, intrigued.

"Well apparently they're like beating up random strangers and scratching and biting them! They become more vicious but at the same time they get slower and stupider." Elle added in, obviously hearing this from Sophie before we had all met up for school. We all shook our heads.

"This is crazy! It's like some weird horror movie." Conor shuddered.

"It'll all be over before you know it. It's like when the end of the world crap came in, everyone freaked but as soon as it was over everyone pretended it didn't bother them... It's only a virus!" Sophie said, getting slightly agitated.

The bell signalling first lesson rang and we all sighed and tutted. I picked up my sports kit and locked my locker, following Conor out to the sports field. He was training with the rebels and popular kids for football practice, whereas I was training for the long-distance and cross-country races with the athletic kids. After changing into my drab sports uniform I couldn't help but think of what Liam had said to me earlier, which brought a smile to my face. As I walked out towards the running track, I looked into the middle to see who was training today; Conor was stretching with Liam and Harry, a popular guy with curly brown hair and piercing green eyes who was also the year above me. A few other guys jogged past me into the middle and began stretching with Conor, Liam and Harry but I didn't recognise them. I stood at the starting line with the ten other people training for the cross-country races and waited for the signal to beginning running, but looking into the distance, further up the field, something didn't look right...
