Forty Two

Nam Seon Ho

Everyone has a chapter that they don't read out loud.

I guess Yeha's parents did too.

There is an entire chapter about their and Hazel Summer and Haden Dankworth's lives that none of us knew about. Leave that - we still don't know who Hazel and Haden are, like, that's a really big thing we need to find out. I believe that we will find at least something in this old grandpa's era logbook - No offence to the grandpa's. Honestly, I am hoping that we just find the address or some biography of Haden and Hazel in this logbook, or even better, we find the address of aunt Hyewol's current location - yes, also of uncle Ji-Hwan. We have to find them. Honestly, I am really, really worried for Yeha's parents. Yeha's parents have loved me a lot; they always invited me to their house, and aunt Hyewol would always make me my favourite 오뚜기 라면 (Ottogi Ramyeon). Not going to lie, aunty's Ramen is the best! They make me feel like I am in heaven. My mum makes ramen too - well, obviously - but I like aunty Hyewol's more. Back then, we always sat and ate dinner together at Yeha's house, and I used to tease Yeha, and we used to laugh and giggle; it has always been so fun!

We were basically sprinting to our car, fueled by excitement, when I suddenly hit the brakes. Why? That same old woman selling clothes was staring me down - and I mean, full-on, unblinking, "I-know-your-secrets" staring. Dude, what did I do? Did I accidentally steal her bestseller or something?

Then, it hit me. Those words.
"Be careful, kids. Strange things happen around that lighthouse..."

Then, she called me and guess what? I went to her. I didn't want to but my mind wasn't listening to me and I just turned my direction and went towards her. God, what is wrong with me?

She said "Nam Seon Ho," she took a deep breath in.

Ugh, this lady is freaking me out! She's staring at me like she knows my deepest secrets. And then, the cherry on top: she calls out my name! How on earth does she know my name? Did she Google Lens me or something? Nah, I'm not that Instagram-famous. I mean, I've got like 12 followers, and 5 of them are my mom.

'Seon Ho be serious and listen to this old woman.' I told myself.

"That time I meant," she paused and continued, "Be careful kids. Strange things happen with the people who go around that lighthouse."

I clearly don't understand what she means.

"Ajumma, What do you mean?" I asked her and saw Yeha and others waiting for me ahead.

"Remember, you are a good kid, always help others and never let your friends die."

"Huh?!" I honestly had that reaction.

"Seon Ho, please come, we are dying to open that log-" Yeha interrupted and I stopped her by saying "I am coming."

"Then, come!" She held my hand and dragged me away from the old woman though, she kept on looking at me with a serious face.

We made our way to the car, with me being dragged along by Yeha - basically, I was a reluctant human balloon being pulled by an overly enthusiastic kid.

Jokes aside. Yeha is not a kid, but the love of my life. At least she was holding my hand. I love her, and I always will, no matter what happens in future, I will always love her and I will always be with her, if needed, I would die for her.

But..That old woman?!?

Holy crap, she scared me.

We were sitting in our car right now. Safe and Secure.

"Let's open this now!!" Jamie requested to Jesper who was holding the book.

"Okay,"

Jesper said while opening the logbook, his fingers tracing the worn leather cover. The first page revealed:

'Confidential Records, Eyes Only.

Entry 1

Hazel and Haden's involvement in Yeha's company takeover. Unauthorized transactions, embezzlement, and sabotage. Their greed left Mr and Mrs Moon's business on the brink of collapse.

A newspaper clipping slipped out, highlighting Verdura company's sudden downfall.

Entry 2

Haden's connection to the rival corporation, Eclipse Inc. Secret meetings and bribes exchanged. Hazel's role in manipulating Mr. Moon Ji-Hwan's trust.

A cryptic note followed:

Project Nightshade. Involved parties: Hazel, Haden, and an unknown third party. Motives unclear.'

Jesper's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions.

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Millions of questions swirled in my head, but one stood out: How did I miss this? Yeha's dad, Jesper's dad, and my dad were business partners, and I was always in the loop. Or so I thought.

My mind raced back to our business discussions. Uncle Ji-Hwan and my dad always trusted me with company intel. But apparently, I wasn't trustworthy enough. The Verdura company's downfall, Eclipse Inc.'s involvement - how did I not know?

I thought I was sharp, on top of things. But now, I felt like a fool. The Eclipse symbol should have raised red flags. Why didn't I connect the dots? My usual instincts failed me.

Self-doubt crept in, suffocating me. What was I doing here? Pretending to help Yeha when I was clueless? Jesper's words echoed: "You don't deserve her." He was right. I wasn't worthy.

My eyes locked onto Jesper, his expression grim. I understood his anger, his protectiveness. Yeha deserved better. Someone who knew what they were doing.

A harsh realization hit me: I'd been living in a bubble, thinking I knew it all. Time to face the truth. I needed to step up, prove myself, or step aside.

"What on earth is happening here?" Jamie asked.

"Do you think that any of us know?" Yeha replied.

"Eclipse Inc." I stated.

"Seriously, Seon Ho, how did we miss this? That Eclipse symbol should've been a dead giveaway. Anyway, we've got some answers now. Time to piece things together." Jesper growled.

"Alright, let's get this straight," I said, summarizing. "Hazel and Haden, former employees of Yeha's parents' company, Verdura, betrayed the company, leading to its downfall. And lastly, I think they betrayed Verdura by leaking confidential information to Eclipse Inc."

Jesper nodded, his expression grim. "That's right. Those two sold out Verdura for their own gain. We need to find out what exactly they shared with Eclipse Inc. and how deep this betrayal goes."

Yeha's eyes narrowed. "My parents trusted them. How could they do this to us?"

I clenched my fists, determination burning within me. "We'll find out, Yeha. And we'll make them pay."

"Guys, we are supposed to find Yeha's parents first!" Jamie reminded.

"Yes, but I think, we need to find what happened first in order to find my parents." Yeha opined.

"Guys, there's more in this logbook, let's turn the page." Jesper diverted the topic.

"Yeah, sure." Yeah replied.

'Entry 3

It shows the picture of Haden Dankworth.'

"No way...."
