EIGHTEEN

I felt a mix of fear, anxiety, surprise, and sadness when I realized that my parents were not in their usual spot at home. Normally, my dad would be sitting on the living room sofa near the entrance. Confusion filled my mind as I stood there, calling out to them but receiving no response. Emotions overwhelmed me, yet a part of me wondered if I was overreacting and if my parents simply couldn't hear me. Uncertain of their whereabouts, I began searching the entire house to find them.

"엄마 아빠? Where are you?" I screamed. ( Mom Dad?)

I scoured every corner of the house, but they were nowhere to be found. My hope dwindled away, and a wave of despair washed over me. Dark thoughts invaded my mind, questioning the well-being of my parents. Are they safe? Are they even alive? What could have possibly happened to them? The confusion overwhelmed me, and before I knew it, tears streamed down my face.

My heart raced with fear as I caught the sound of footsteps echoing down the stairs. Memories of the chilling movie I watched last night flooded my mind, where a deranged psychopath took pleasure in ending lives. A shiver ran down my spine as I pondered the terrifying possibility that these footsteps belonged to the very murderers who would soon end my own life.

As I summoned the courage to look back, trembling with fear, my heart sank. The sight of those two individuals standing there sent a wave of sadness crashing over me, causing my tears to overflow and fill the room. Uncertainty clouded my mind, unsure whether these tears were born out of happiness or something else entirely.

"Yeha? What happened? why are you crying?"

"엄마, 아빠, I was scared, I thought that som--some--thing happened to you" I blurted.

"Oh, Dear! Today's weather was pretty good so, we decided to go the rooftop and enjoy the weather." My mom explained.

"Nothing happened to us" My dad assured.

I was simply blowing things out of proportion and overreacting. Now, I find myself pondering why anyone would want to harm my parents. Could it be the work of a deranged psychopath? But why target my parents specifically among all the people in our neighborhood? Perhaps I should refrain from watching these movies; they seem to be messing with my mind. In the midst of all this, I also came to the realization of how immaturely I was behaving. If faced with an actual psychopath, would I just freeze and burst into tears? Is that the kind of person I am? Lacking courage?

"You got so scared just because you assumed we weren't home. Have you even prepared yourself for the real world? You're about to pass 11th grade, then 12th grade, and eventually go to university and get a job. How do you plan on getting ready for all of that?" My dad questioned me.

"Umm- dad," I shuttered.

"It's okay, You can head back to your room."

As I made my way back to my room, I settled down on the chair positioned beside the pristine study table. Lost in thought, I couldn't help but reflect on the truth my father had spoken. It dawned on me that I didn't want to be someone who lacked the fundamental quality of 'courage'.

Out of the blue, it struck me that I needed to have a conversation with my parents regarding our friendship. However, it dawned on me that now wasn't the opportune moment, considering my parents' disappointment in me. Perhaps, waiting until the evening when my mom enjoys her soothing green tea would provide the perfect setting to approach them about it.

I let out a deep breath and rose from my seat, making my way over to the wardrobe. As I swung open the doors, I was greeted by a stack of dresses and a few oversized garments. A sense of confusion washed over me as I pondered what to wear for the day. My gaze landed on a raspberry pink dress, its simplicity and beauty captivating me. However, I hesitated, knowing that this dress was more suited for a party rather than a day at home.

I selected a white, oversized t-shirt and a pair of black shorts at random from my wardrobe. After closing the wardrobe, I headed towards the bathroom with the intention of taking a shower and changing into more comfortable attire. However, just as I was making my way to the bathroom, the sound of my phone ringing reached my ears. Instantly, a smile spread across my face. I quickly went and grabbed my phone and it showed Jamie's name. My smile faded. Is she going to ask me about our friendship thing that did I ask my parents or not. I accepted the call.

"여보세요!" I greeted. [ Hello ( but in a call) ]

"여보세요, 예하!" ( Hello, Yeha!)

"Did you ask your parents?" Jamie continued.

"No, I will ask them later." I admitted.

"Then, ask them tomorrow because I don't think that you have time today."

"Huh?" I was confuzzled.

"Aren't you going to Seon Ho's parents aniversary party?" She asked.

"무엇?" Jamie just made me more confused.

"He didn't mention about this to me and we met today many times, infact he rode me to my house." I blurted.

"I know, I know, I just wanted to see your reaction on this" she giggled.

"Few seconds ago, I called Seon Ho to ask what time is the party starting and then he requested me to inform you about the party as he forgot to invite you" Jamie explained.

"The fact that he forgot to invite me is crazy" I mumbled.

"So, when is it?" I asked

"6:30 pm" she declared.

"Holy!!!! I don't have time." I stated.

"We can reach there late, you come out of your house once you are done." She instructed.

"Okay." With that I declined the call.

Time was slipping through my fingers, leaving me with barely a moment to spare. I found myself rushing through tasks, trying to keep up with the demands of the day. Amidst the chaos, a glimmer of joy sparkled within me as I anticipated the opportunity to don a stunning raspberry pink dress. I also wondered about Soen Ho's family. Seon Ho's family, known for their opulence, exuded an air of royalty that permeated every aspect of their lives. Their extravagant parties, held in the grandeur of their mansion, were always a sight to behold.

After a speedy shower, I slipped into a stunning raspberry pink dress and opted for a more subtle makeup look. Heavy makeup was never my thing, so I always preferred a lighter touch. I delicately brushed on a scarlet red eyeshadow, paired with a crimson lip tint. To add a touch of elegance, I carefully applied a winged eyeliner. Stepping back, I admired my reflection in the mirror, and to my surprise, the dress hugged my curves perfectly, accentuating my body. The shade of the dress flawlessly complemented my skin tone, and the gentle caress of sunlight added an extra radiance to my appearance. Also, My curls were falling off my shoulders and my red heels were the spotlight of my look.

I excitedly shared the news with my parents about attending Seon Ho's parents' anniversary party, and to my delight, they gave their approval. It's no surprise though, as my parents have always admired Seon Ho, probably due to his exceptional academic achievements. As I made my way out of the house, Jamie's car came into view, just as I had expected. With a smile on my face, I approached the car and hopped in.

"안녕하세요!" We both greeted eachother. ( Hello!)

To my astonishment, Jesper was nowhere to be found as I searched around the car. We'll yes, Seon Ho and Jesper have drifted apart and are no longer friends. Hence, it's understandable why he chose not to attend this party.

As Jamie and I sat in the back seat of the car, the atmosphere was filled with silence. Through the window, I watched as raindrops gracefully danced upon the glass, creating a mesmerizing pattern. Meanwhile, Jamie's driver remained focused in the driver's seat, guiding us through the tranquil journey.

As I gazed at the raindrops, memories of the dance night and our performance flooded my mind. I couldn't help but recall how the rain unexpectedly poured down in the midst of our show, drenching our clothes and adding an unexpected twist to the evening. It was after that moment that things took a slightly complicated turn between me, Jamie, and Jesper.

I caught a glimpse of Jamie and couldn't help but wonder why she was so silent. To my surprise, she was engrossed in her phone, texting someone. My curiosity got the better of me, and I discreetly glanced at her screen. My eyes widened as I read the name "Byum woo!?"

"Huh! A-aa" Jamie shuttered.

"Don't tell me that you guys are dating!" I immediately asked.

"No, till now, we are just good friends." She stated.

"What do you mean by 'till now'," I teased.

"None of your business." She spoke out of embarassment.

I was happy and stunned at the same time. My bossy Jamie fell for a nerd? My eyes didn't believe this.

"She hid such a big thing from me?" I asked.

"I don't like him, we are just good friends and I just feel comfortable around him!" She explained.

"Comfortable around him" I teased.

"Shut up, will you?" She was just so annoyed.

"Yeah, sure Mrs.Woo" I continued teasing her and she scrolled through her phone trying to ignore me.

In just a short while, we arrived at our destination. To my astonishment, the decorations surpassed all expectations. With a sense of anticipation, I pushed open the grand black gate and entered the venue. The place was bustling with a sea of people, so I swiftly claimed a seat for myself. It was evident that the party had a black and white theme, as most attendees were adorned in elegant black and white attire. Even Jamie, in her deep-necked black dress with Bell sleeves, blended seamlessly with the crowd. Meanwhile, I couldn't help but feel like the odd one out, standing out in my vibrant raspberry pink dress.

As I glanced around, it dawned on me why this party had exceeded all my expectations. The breathtaking decorations were simply awe-inspiring, and it suddenly clicked that this was Seon Ho's parents' 20th Anniversary celebration. It was evident that they had gone above and beyond to make this occasion truly extraordinary.

As I caught sight of Seon Ho, I couldn't help but call out to him. In response, he turned towards me, his face lighting up with a sweet smile that showcased his adorable dimples. Slowly, he made his way over to where I was standing. I couldn't help but be amazed once again by his impeccable fashion sense. Every outfit he wears seems to effortlessly complement him. On this particular day, he had on a stylish combination of a white t-shirt and a black blazer. What caught my attention were the first three buttons of his shirt, left undone, revealing a glimpse of his neck and a tantalizing hint of his chest.

As soon as he reached near me, I greeted him with a smile but later, I complained about him forgetting to invite me.

"I am sorry Yeha, I will do better next time and I owe you an apology"
