Chapter 14: Study

With a pondering hum, Melody looked at Amy, "Fine." She relented, "There'd be no use if we overworked you and have you collapse or get sick.  I'll give you three days.  Is that good enough, because that's as much as I can give you right now."

Amy let out a sigh and a smile, "Yes, that's enough.  Thank you so much!" She reached for Melody's hands and held them tightly in her grasp, "I felt like I was going to die."

"After that break, you finish reading through these papers, then you get another three days break.  I guess it would be rather boring to spend two months working on these."

"I was honestly hoping to just have an actual break, like going to a cafe, or out to eat, or better yet get to sleep well.  Not reading these papers." Amy sighed as she looked at the papers, "But I guess I did learn something."

"In those three days, I'll look over your answers and get back to you to review them with you.  Whether they were okay, or if there were a better solution to the mission than what you suggested." Melody said before leaving, "Well, I have to go now."

Those three days felt like heaven to her, not only was her mission example homework put on hold, so was her regular training at the gym.  For three days.  She'd normally get one day off from all gym training, since it would be too much, and the times she would go back to the gym it would always be a different training.

She had been told it was to let her muscles rest for a short while.

Amy went to work, went home and slept well, and even got time to do things she had wanted to do.  Though three days weren't enough to quench the thirst for an actual break.

And just as promised, after three days she received a call from Melody telling her to work on the papers.

"You did okay on the first examples, it could have been better, but for someone new to this it was good." Melody had told her on the second day of Amy's three-day break.

Scrunching up her nose Amy read, "How am I supposed to solve this?  There isn't enough to tell me what to do." She sighed loudly as she leaned back in her chair, her head leaning back looking at the ceiling.

"Are you okay?" Her mother knocked on the closed door.

Amy hurriedly covered the papers, "Yeah, I'm good.  It's just that the questions are a bit confusing."

"I see." Her mother responded from the other side of the door, "Just don't stay up too late."

"Okay." Amy said as she pulled her arms away from the papers.

Just as agreed, when the papers were finished and filled out, she was given another three days off.  And again, the next assignments were due within a week, and they had less information than the previous ones.

"It feels like that one statistics class I took for extra credit.  The teacher didn't even explain anything, he just told us to read the book, and when we had questions all he said was 'there are tutors available to help you' it was frustrating." Amy huffed in distaste as she thought back to the class she dropped back in high school.

"You don't have to worry about that.  After this one assignment, you won't have to do anymore."

Amy looked at Melody and Aaron suspiciously across the table in the park, "Why?"

"You'll get to study."

Raising a brow, Amy asked, "Study?  Like school study?"

Both Melody and Aaron nodded, "Yep." Melody chirped.

"What's the catch?" There was no way that it would be as simple as just studying.

"None.  We figured it would be good for you to know a bit more or to revise a few things for future missions." Aaron responded.

"Okay." Amy slowly said as she interlocked her fingers together looking at the two individuals sitting in front of her.

After her three-day break after finishing the last assignments, Melody and Aaron brought books to Amy.

"Math, literature, economy, science, history, French." As each subject was mentioned a book was set down in front of Amy on the coffee table in the living room, "We just came by to drop these off, and here are some notebooks and some notes for you to focus on certain points."

Blinking in surprise Amy slowly nodded, "Do I have a deadline for this?"

"No.  But it would be best if you take this seriously and study well, you never know when this may come useful." Aaron said as he set down the French book down on the stack of books, "We'll be taking our leave now."

".... Okay."

After they had left, Amy looked down at the stack of books, "Aren't these the editions used in high school?" She picked up two of the books, "Well it has been a while since I last read and revised any of these subjects." She said with a shrug as she picked up one more book and held them in her arms as she turned around and headed to her room to leave the first few books on her desk before going to get the other ones.

"A promotion?"

Yessenia nodded, "Just heard that you're getting a promotion.  Congratulations!" She clapped excitedly, "To think that you got a promotion so quickly."

"Why though.  I'm just here at the front desk.  Why would I get a promotion?" Amy asked in disbelief, "I don't even do anything much aside from answering calls, calling people, and greeting people.  And besides I've only been here for two years.  You should be the one to be getting a promotion, you've been here for five years." She was confused.

Yessenia tilted her head in thought, "You should ask the manager.  I think he's here today, though he'll be leaving at...." She glanced at her wristwatch, "Noon, so you have two hours to ask him about it."

Placing her hands on the table, Amy stood up and walked around the desk, "I'm going to go look for him.  Where is he now?"
