Chapter I
Hermione.
It had all started with a dare. A childish game set in the Gryffindor common room after midnight. Needless to say, Hermione was shocked when Draco accepted her invitation to the Yule Ball.
"Well, Granger. Looks like. You've finally confesed your love for me." Hermione's face turned crimson.
"Malfoy! Do really think I'd stoop so low, as to-" the blond put his finger to Hermione's lip.
"Shush. We all know you've been waiting for this. Honestly, what girl hasn't?" Draco Malfoy states, gives his award winning smirk.
"I asked you a simple question Malfoy! Just answer!" She screams and throws her hands up in exasperation. This only seems to amuse Draco further.
"The answer is yes, Mudblood." Hermione's mocha eyes fill with shock.
"Well... See you around." She answered stiffly, still in shock. Why would Draco of all people accept her invitation? The muggle born hater, Slytherin, suspected death eater say yes to the girl he had bullied for years? It surely had to be to annoy her, and nothing more. Hermione then turned in her heel, and stomped away.
"Oh, and Granger?" Malfoy says, breaking her out of her thoughts.
"What do you want?"
"Wear something nice. If I'm going to be seen at a ball with you, at least attempt to look good."
"As you wish." The Gryffindor replied sarcastically. But as she walked back to spread the news, she couldn't help but feel her face go hot.
Hermione shook those thoughts out of her head as she walkes to potions with Harry and Ron.
"I cannot believe Malfoy agreed to take you!" Ron states for the millionth time.
"I don't know either Ron." She said, extremely annoyed with the red head. He had constantly been this way the past week and honestly, she was fed up with his whining.
"There is one good thing about this." Harry says in an excited tone. "Mione, if he really does fancy you, you might be able to convince him to tell you about his plans at the ball!" His shaggy black hair falls on his face. Harry swiftly brushes it off, to reveal a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"I don't know, Harry." Hermione replied hesitantly. "Something could go horribly wrong."
"C'mon Her-" Harry stops as they reach the dungeon entrance.
"We will discuss this later!" Hermione whispered through clenched teeth, trying to contain her anger at the two wizards.
Ron and Harry then proceed to plop down at two seats in the second row. She however sat down in one of the two chairs in front of them. The classroom continued to fill up, until the only empty seat was next to Hermione. She sighed in boredom, for Professor Snape had not yet arrived.
Just then, a boy wearing messy Slytherin robes bursts through the door. His bright blond hair is tousled, and has bags under his grey eyes.
Draco's gaze shift to Crabbe and Goyle, only to see the seats on either side were full. He sees the empty seat next to Hermione, and plops down there, his books banging against the wood.
"If I didn't know any better Granger, I'd say that you that you were saving a seat for me." Malfoy says, raising an eyebrow.
"In your dreams, Malfoy." She spat at him.
"Well-" He's cut short by Snape entering the room. Hermione's eyes flickered behind her to see Harry glaring at Snape, whilst Ron was at Draco. Except Ron's eyes held a tint of... was that jealousy?
"Hello, class." The professor greets dully. "Today we will be making Amortentia. Does anyone know what it is?" He gazes at the class, ignoring Hermione's eager hand. The answer was so easy . If only Snape would let her answer... "Anyone?" He pulls a vial out of his cloak, and pulls out the cork.
She couldn't hold it back any longer. "Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what attracts them." She says in one breath. She takes a whiff of the potion, which she could easily smell, even from her spot at her desk, she could smell it clearly. Especially from right beside her. "For example, I smell Freshly mown grass, new parchment, and spearmint toothpaste." The scent beside her now became stronger as Draco Malfoy leaned over her.
"Enjoying my smell Granger?" He whispered.
"What do you mean?" Hermione whisper yelled. Could it be Malfoy that smelled of spearmint? She doubted it. But there was a nagging feeling at the back of her mind telling her otherwise.
"Well," Draco started. "I distinctly remember using spearmint toothpaste this morning." As he finished, Hermione turned her head away from the boy, and to Snape who was glaring at her.
"10 points from Gryffindor for being a know it all, Ms. Granger." He snarled.
The rest of the lesson went on as usual. Being chastised by the potions professor, and annoyed by a certain arrogant pure blood. She ignored him, of course. But this only gave him more reason to bother her.
Hermione left class that day, incredibly confused. Not at the lesson. Not at her friends, or even Snape.
Hermione Granger knew the answers to everything. Well, at least she thought she did. But at this moment, her feelings were a complete mystery...
(Hi! This is my first just Harry Potter fanfic, hope you enjoyed. Tell me if I should continue. This takes place during the Goblet of fire, although the Amortentia was from HP 6. This story may be a bit shorter than the others. Yup. Stay cool :D )
