The only thing worse than being disappointed is being the disappointment. - unknown
That made me sad, as she was very dear to me, and I decided on this day that I want to change this. I had no interest in having the reputation of a total disappointment and a failure. I could almost hear the angry voice of my father when he had found out that I was skipping school again. In his opinion this was a sin and a despicable thing to do. But I just thought that he was a hypocrite.
I promised her: "Gracie, I will not disappoint you!" She looked up and then just returned to the cleaning from which I had distracted her. After the baking utensils have been stored away; she started cutting vegetables and some onion as everything was clear between us. Curiously, I looked over her shoulders, and saw that she was making pasta. I also could see that she had prepared some marinated chicken because she knew how much I enjoyed her cooking.
Despite being the younger sibling, she took care of the cooking like a mother. My own mother had never bothered to cook for Gracie or me. She just cared about herself and the business. My father was even worse; he rarely came home and if he did; he just stayed in his business room doing conferences with his clients. That was the reason why I got so angry when Jasmeet mentioned my non existing family life. It hurt even more to be reminded bythe girl which I hated.
"How was school, Gracie?" I wanted to know in order to distract myself from those depressing thoughts. She rolled her eyes almost noticing my attempt to divert my attention. Then I realized that it was the usual eye roll, I received as soon as I mentioned school. She did not like going to school very much. She rather hang out with her best friends to talk about the latest fashion and trends than indulge into studies and homeworks. Her goal in life was to become a famous fashion designer. She loved fashion with all her heart; I was positive that she would start studying design once she was done with her school. It was evident that she also had a talent for choosing the right clothes. Everyday she looked like a model, as she was able to pick up the latest trends very fast. In her school she was also adored and one of the most popular girls. She had dark brown hair and a very beautiful face; her figure was very slim as well. Her eyes were almost black and I was positive that many boys got lost in her deep eyes.
Nontheless she never paid any heed to them, as she did not want to have a relationship right now. "Shawn, the meal is cooked now. Let's eat now. It's late. I want to go to my room, choose the outfit for tomorrow and afterwards just sleep!" a voice shouted; and make me snap out of my daze. I was startled and glanced at my sister who had a furious and angry look on her look. Gracie had a problem when people did not pay attention to her.
I apologized: "Gracie, please do not be mad with me. We will eat and then we will go up to our rooms!" She nodded and put the dish on two plates and motioned me to sit down on a stool. I took a seat and told her in a sincere tone: "Gracie, thank you for cooking today. I really need some good and healthy food right now!"
She moved her head in agreement and started to munch on the spaghettis. I chuckled softly and began to eat. The dish was very good; Gracie had a talent to cook. We engaged in some more small talk and after having cleaned the kitchen together, we went up to our rooms. I climbed up the wooden stairs and scoffed at the sight of how big our house must seem. Almost 10 people were able to live in this house, but it was just Gracie, our caretaker and me.
The house consisted of two levels. One was for our parents who were rarely at home, another one for Gracie, who had transformed her level into a paradise for artists and lastly mine. The caretaker or nanny had today a free day because Gracie offered to cook and we promised her to clean up the kitchen afterwards. The only sense of family I had was with Gracie. My elder brother had already his own flat and lived in New York since one year. I opened the door to my room which was right under the roof and took in the known and familiar scent.
My room was big and spacious, being a home to my bed, table, sofa and a television with a console. In the adjoining room, I had my walk-in-closet full of Designer and expensive clothes. I did not like this at all, but my parents thought that as we were wealthy, we should show off our richness. I did not have any interest in having one but my sister convinced to make use of the small room next to mine.
The walls were black and blue, and my dark blue curtains and black folds, which hid my windows in the night. Moreover, I owned a guitar, which hang on the wall; I played occasionally for me and sometimes also in school, where many girls drooled over me. I plopped down on my bed and took my phone out of my jeans pocket. I saw a message of Enzo. Hey, what's up man? How did your meeting with Kaur go? Call me soon! I chuckled and called him immediately. "Hey Dude, what's up?" he answered me with the first ring.
