Ch 3-Orphan Girl
Growing desperate waiting for Aman and Karan who didn't come yet for lunch, she lied down on bed. Looking up at the ceiling, staring at nothing in particular, she recalled the memories of her past.
The memories which haunt her, bringing about the sad tears in her eyes, gradually changes into happy ones as her mind repeats the two names which changed her life completely turning it upside down. The two names within which her life was revolving around.
A small smile tucked in her lips as the thought of Aman and Karan enveloped her mind, flashing the memory of the day they entered in her life.
*Flashback*
Aimless she walked on the middle of the road, void of energy her legs were giving up but she kept dragging them with only one hope and that being some vehicle coming and hitting her, taking her away from this cruel world.
There was no meaning left to her void life and she wanted to end it today. Watching a truck approaching towards her she smiled a tight zipped painful smile thanking the God to fulfill her only wish which was to die.
The sound of the horn grew louder with every second passed and she closed her eyes awaiting the moment she's been praying for. She felt someone's hand on her own, and before she could realize she was pulled back hastily from the middle of the road just at the correct moment. Any delay would have led to her accident.
Opening her eyes she found she was standing at the corner of the road accompanied by two guys taller than her. One holding her by her hand, with an angry look on his face while the other had a concerned look. Looking around she realized she was saved by them.
"Are you mad??"
It was none other than Aman who questioned with a scary tone, which scared Tanu further. Unable to hold her tears anymore, she started crying trying to loosen the grip of his hand from her arms speaking in whispers
"Leave me, let me die!"
Karan and Aman exchanged looks, Aman didn't leave her hand, Karan bent his head and looking at her he asked in a soft voice
"Where are your parents??"
The word parents only made her cry harder, she choked a sob falling down on her knees. The answer was clear, bending down to her level Aman hugged her feeling her pain, she struggled trying to come out of his hold but she didn't had energy left to struggle.
She hugged him back finding his warmth soothing as he repeated the words 'it's ok' rubbing her back gently. She hugged him tight crying harder on his shoulder, Aman felt his heart stinging with every sob he heard. He broke the hug wiping her tears from his thumbs as he cupped her face asking her to tell them everything.
"I'm hungry"
She could manage to tell only those two words before letting herself fall on his shoulder again void of energy. She didn't eat from past two days, watching her in that helpless situation broke their heart.
Taking her to the nearest restaurant, they ordered food for her. Food was in front of her, but she couldn't bring together enough strength to stretch her hands and feed herself. With trembling hands she held the glass of water but it slipped out of her hand falling down spreading everywhere.
Aman stood from his chair and turning his back towards her he left. Thinking he left from there as the water spread all around his shoes, she cried looking down.
"Drink"
Aman said taking the glass tumbler near her lips, she raised her head watching him as he made her drink water slowly. She clearly didn't expect this, not after spreading water on his shoes. She watched him with an unbelievable look, as he picked up the plate from the table keeping the tumbler there.
Pulling his chair he sat near her at a distance from where he could feed her without any struggle.
As he fed her, all her attention remained on his face. Her eyes observing his, which held nothing but care for her. First time someone was feeding her with so much of care, mixed emotions is what she felt watching Aman feed her.
As her mind enveloped with many thoughts, she gulped a big bite not chewing it properly and ended up choking on it. As she held her throat coughing, Aman stood quickly with a panic stricken face, rubbing her back making her drink water with utmost care. As she drank water slowly he questioned in a slow voice
"You fine???"
She nodded blinking back the fresh tears which made its way to her eyes, watching his care towards her which was a complete new experience for her. And she wasn't the only one controlling her tears from flowing, Karan blinked back his own looking elsewhere.
This was the real Aman, the loving and caring one which he always keeps hidden behind his arrogant self. His true self was coming out today which seemed dead from years after that incident which changed him completely.
Karan always believed his real self wasn't dead completely and it was still somewhere alive within him. What he was seeing today was proof of the same. A tear ran down his cheek watching Aman.
"I'm proud of you Bhai!"
Karan whispered wiping out the tears forming in his eyes, smiling wide at Aman who was done feeding her and was making her drink water.
"Are you feeling better? Do you need something else!?"
Asked Aman, Tanu nodded at the former and shook her head in denial for the latter part of his question. Aman carefully examined her facial expressions, making sure she doesn't lie feeling shy to ask anything more. But when he found nothing as such, he got up looking at Karan who thought something looking at the surrounding and then speaking
"Let's go to the park and speak!!"
Tanu and Aman nodded before walking to the work which was just few steps from there. Aman didn't leave her hands till they reached their usual place in the park. Sitting on the grass, they circled among themselves with Tanu between them.
"We are with you, don't feel scared of us, think us as your own brothers!! Believe us we are here to help you, tell us everything!!"
Karan said with a soft smile, looking down at her who looked down feeling unsure fidgeting with her fingers. Finding her struggling with herself, Aman took both of her hands in his own and dabbing it lightly before calmly holding it he blinked his eyes in affirmation shooing away her fears. Nodding she began
"I am an orphan, I have noone in this world, One uncle found me near the stairs of a temple on a rainy evening. I was too small that time, seems like my parents didn't want me and so they left me there as soon as I was born."
A tear ran down her cheek as she told that. Pressing her hands lightly, Aman calmed her, nodding her head she continued
"That uncle took me to his house. He loved me like his own daughter. He was a poor man and could hardly afford three meals of a day but he still took good care of me, sometimes he even skipped his own meal sacrificing it for me. He couldn't afford school fees, so he taught me the basics himself, he bought me some books from which I learnt writing. He had his own small house, he was a labour and used to work in a construction building. He used to return home before night but then day before yesterday"
She couldn't control herself and broke down in tears. Sobbing she bent down her head and struggled with hiccups. Taking the bottle quickly from his bag, Karan made her drink water slowly.
"Be strong"
Aman said tightening his grip on her hands, who nodded controlling her sobs continuing
"Day before yesterday he didn't come back home. I thought he was doing overtime as he was planning before some days to that to arrange money for sending her school. I slept, but he wasn't back by morning as well. I waited the entire day. When he didn't return yesterday night as well, I decided to search him around today morning as he worked nearby somewhere in a construction site.
Asking people for a construction building around, I came around a construction building and in hope to find him there I went inside. I saw a man standing instructing the labourers and he looked like a contractor. Walking near him, thinking he could help me search my uncle I told him his name and how he looked.
Listening to the face description he called one of his labour and asking him something he bent on his knees looking at me. Frowning a little he said, he said ..."
She broke down, sobbing sadly she spoke the remaining words
"He said the man named same tripped down while he was working on the top floor and suffering a heavy collision on his head died on the spot yesterday. I was not in my sense listening to this and ran from there ignoring his calls to stop me. The only man who loved me, who took care of me was no more. There is no meaning left in my life, my life is meaningless. My parents left me as soon as I was born, the lone man around which my life was revolving was also taken away from me, what do I do living now??"
Aman hugged her tightly not letting her say anything more, she cried her heart out sobbing badly on his shoulder. Breaking the hug he cupped her cheeks, wiping out her tears from his thumbs he muttered crying
"Shut up!! Never think of ending your life, it's the solution to none. We all have a reason to come to this world, we just need to figure out our reason of 'living' and not 'leaving'. And who told u have a meaningless life? And you have no one in this world? We are your brothers from today, we will become the meaning of your life"
Aman broke down in tears hugging her closer. she cried hugging him tight, Karan was crying too he called out watching them hug
"Don't leave me!!"
Breaking the hug listening to him, Aman looked at him with glassy eyes stretching one of his hand towards him calling him, Karan smiled hugging them from the side.
They cried in each others embrace. Breaking the hug Aman looked back into her teary eyes. A wide smile played on his lips, his eyes pooling with tears as his mind recalled the incident happened years back. Parting her cheeks lightly he spoke, his words merely whispers
"Thank you for coming into my life, this time I won't lose you my sister, No one can separate you from me this time"
Karan understood what was Aman thinking, his eyes flooded with tears watching Aman cry. He could see that she didn't understand anything, and as she looked to ask the same Karan quickly muttered what came in his mouth, not wanting to discuss about that.
"She's not only your sister, She's mine sister too!! Don't you dare call her your sister alone!!"
Karan told giving Aman a stare, who looked back at him with the same look. She laughed watching Aman and Karan exchanged angry looks. Smiling wide at them, she told breaking their stare on each other
"I'm sister of you both Idiots, stop fighting like a kid"
Both of them grinned listening to her. Watching the sunset in complete silence, there was lot running in Tanu's mind. At one hand her heart felt broken listening to the demise of the person who took care of her from childhood, and on the other hand she felt happy finding them.
She could feel their love, specially Aman's who treated her just like his own sister. Seeing his care for her, she felt really happy. Though the man took good care of her needs but he could not give her the most important thing and that was his love.
She always craved for that care which he couldn't provide, say it he was void of time or say it he just considered earning money as his priority that he could never think that she required something more than food and clothes.
Smiling at her two god gifted brothers she smiled watching them and then the sunset, the sky looked too beautiful and as she admired the view Karan noticed her. Smiling he spoke catching the attention of the two
"You know what sunset teaches us?"
Tanu looked at Karan with a curious look who was smiling looking down, playing with a small stone in his hand. Finding her attention on him he spoke with a content smile
"Sunset marks the end of the journey in the form of setting of the sun, but at the same time it also indicates the beginning of the other journey in the form of awaking of the moon. It teaches us the end of one journey is the begining of next journey. And you know what's common between you and sunset?"
Karan looked up at her as he asked her the question, watching her shook her head as no he smiled wide at her answering
"You have completed your one journey today, and the other still awaits you. Your journey with the sun- 'your uncle', has come to an end, but that's not the end of you. Your other journey with the moon is still waiting for you. And you know who is your moon?"
He spoke fixing his eyes to that of her teary ones.
"We"
Said both Aman and Karan simultaneously, wiping out her tears from their thumb.
*Flashback ends*
A tear escaped her eye making its away on her cheek as she recalled the memories of the day her life took a complete 360° turn. She came out of her trance when she heard the knocking on the door. She jumped down the bed quickly unlocking the door in excitement.
Opening the door finding only Karan standing there she smiled but her eyes looked for Aman who wasn't anywhere around. Karan could read from her expressions that she searched for Aman but he couldn't tell her the truth well aware that she will be tensed all the time he lied
"Aman couldn't come Tanu, actually we have one assignment to complete which we had completely forgotten about, even I've to leave for the same!! Sorry Haan.. we will come back later ok!"
Tanu smiled saying 'No problem bhaiya', Karan touched her cheeks lovingly smiling at her. Handing over the parcel to her he asked her to eat it completely, listening which Tanu didn't react. As she took it from his hands, Karan knew what was she thinking and he commented
"This is your lunch, not dinner!! Don't skip.. eat it now"
She gave him an 'how do you know' look, she had thought exactly the same and Karan knew it exactly, well aware of her food tantrums.
"I know everything!! Eat it now!! If we aren't here doesn't mean you can escape your lunch!!"
She frowned, looking at him from her brown doe eyes giving him her cutest puppy look trying to melt him, but he ignored not meeting her eyes saying
"I won't melt, don't try as well"
"I hate you bhaiya"
"I love you too behnaaaaa"
Karan laughed yelling back, waving her hands at her as he walked back to school. Tanu frowned before smiling wide at his disappearing figure. How much ever she tries, she cannot win from him. Somehow they make her eat three times irrespective of her wanting to eat or not.
It's been 6 months they are taking care of all her needs. From bringing her the lunch and eating it with her, to going out with her on sundays to the park, they saw that they were spending solid amount of their time with her. As the house she lived was just on the opposite side of their school playground, they always joined her for lunch, sharing their tiffin with her.
They either handed over the money or brought her the breakfast and dinner, sacrificing their daily pocket money in doing so. Though they never told her this, she had idea about the same and always hesitated taking the money.
But somehow they managed to make her agree, either by giving her their promise or their undeniable puppy look. Either of the two used to do the trick, but one day despite of their continuous trials she insisted on working and earning it for herself.
She was just 13 years old and no one would agree to give job to a minor, unless it is online based jobs. She was ready to do any job so she agreed to do online jobs but the problem was she neither had a phone nor she knew how to use it.
They had to arrange a phone for her, but that's where the problem lied. Karan was recently bought a new phone so no way he could ask for another but it's been quite a long time Aman had his old phone. Handing over his phone to her getting her a new sim card, he acted as if he lost his phone at his home. He got lot of scoldings from his dad but eventually he got a new phone in a week only after doing a hunger strike for 1 day straight.
They taught her how to use it, calling and messaging the first thing to be taught to her by them. Speaking fluent English and the other features the phone provides were some things what they were teaching her till date. They made her understand that this was gonna take time, and till that time she cannot refuse to whatever they say.
She agreed with a determination to learn everything quick and start earning for herself. And she indeed was learning things quick, her fluency in English was getting better each day. Though she lacked proper schooling, she was bright and was also a quick learner. Staying alone she only grew bold and stronger, she knew that her two brothers were always with her, be it in her bad or good.

"Sss.. sss..... Sorry"
Tanu couldn't believe her ears, her eyes wide staring at Aman who was looking elsewhere. She was surprised would be an understatement, her mouth open still trying to gulp in the fact that Aman just said 'sorry'.
She looked at Karan who had similar expression on his face, she looked at him with a questioning look, he shrugged his shoulders shaking his head. Looking at Aman he touched his forehead from the back of his fingers, checking his temperature which seemed fine he commented
"It doesn't look like you have fever!!"
"How will it look like, if I don't have it??"
Said Aman shrugging his shoulder, Tanu laughed listening to Aman.
"Maybe not from outside, but from inside??"
Aman thought about what he just said, giving him a weird look unable to understand he called him
"Mental you are??"
"Yes!! Correct, let's go for your mental checkup!!"
Aman facepalmed rolling his eyes at his words. Tanu laughed further closing her mouth from the back of her hand falling back on the bed. Watching her laugh, Aman smiled wide. He loved watching her smile, and that was the only thing which could lift his mood up instantly.
"I missed you!!"
Tanu said hugging Aman, she missed him a lot today. Aman felt bad, he indeed came there after leaving from school, but returned from the doorstep aware that his anger would also spoil her mood which he didn't want at ant cost.
"I also missed you, I am sorry for today, I won't repeat it again"
He said in a soft voice hugging her back. Tanu rubbed his back lightly saying 'It's ok bhaiya'.
"You guys again forgot me!!"
Said Karan frowning blinking back the years which made it to his eyes watching them. They laughed breaking the hug and both stretched their hand towards him, who smiled joining them hugging them close.

"Her eyes are so mesmerizing"
Karan whispered staring at the ceiling sleeping flat on his bed. The more he thought of forgetting it, the often he ended up thinking about it. He couldn't remove her pretty innocent face from his eyes, her eyes which were boring holes in his own when he was above her was replaying again and again in his mind.
Hum Tere Bin Ab Reh Nahi Sakte
Tere Bina Kya Wajood Mera
Tujhse Juda Gar Ho Jaayenge
Toh Khud Se Hi Ho Jaayenge Judaa
"
Wow.. just like movies..."
His eyes closed as he enjoyed the song smiling at it. When the song repeated he grew confused
"Repeat mode??"
He thought, just then the realisation dawned upon him and quickly opening his eyes he searched for his mobile. Finding his phone ringing, he facepalmed quickly picking up the call.
"Are you sleeping??"
"No no..."
Before he could say anything further Tanu spoke making him laugh
"Yes I had.. I bought chapathi and curry from the money you guys gave me.. I didn't skip.. I am perfectly fine as well.. Will not stay awake late.. Will sleep after cutting the call"
"Damn!! You told everything!! What do I say now?? "
Aman and Tanu laughed listening Karan. Speaking and teasing each other for a while they cut the call bidding bye only after wishing each other good night.
The thoughts of Aditi wandered around his mind, as he looked to sleep. As he thought over the entire happening today he came to a conclusion that his nervousness around her could cost him big embarrassment, nodding he slept pulling over the blanket over him not before whispering
"I will not speak to her more"
"I will speak to him tomorrow"
Said Aditi pulling her blanket over her. She tried his method of practicing Maths but nothing seemed to work out as she only grew confused the more she practiced. She slept giving up, deciding to speak to Karan tomorrow over the same.
"Fate", The more you try to run away from the word, the more closer you get and you cannot do anything about it but just watch it play its game. Because What's meant to be will always find a way.
