Chapter 34

*Maheshwari Pov*

"James!" I heard a voice screaming his name and there was a cough added to it too.

I frowned halting my moments of peeling the vegetables and waited for the voice again thinking I must have imagined it.

"James!" and that made me step away from the kitchen before reaching the living room to see two people standing there with frowns along with two bodyguards having nervous expressions.

"Yes?" I asked making the two people frown at me.

"Who are you?" the old woman asked and I frowned back.

"This is my house." I replied, making her gasp while the woman with her frowned before glancing at the old woman.

"This is my grandson's house." I got the words from this old woman making me frown more.

"You are Nakul's Grandma? But he doesn't have one, right?" I asked frowning.

"I am kind of like that to that sweet boy but I was talking about James." She explained and I immediately grinned before reaching near her.

"You are James Grandma? Wow! I wanted to meet you for so long." I said, but saw her distant expressions making me realize what she must be thinking.

"I am Nakul's wife." I explained and she sighed in relief.

"Oh! Then why did you say this is your house?" she asked and I smiled at her.

"Because Nakul and I live here while James lives in that outhouse..." I couldn't finish it seeing her horrified expression.

"He lives there? How can he do that? This is what he is doing all these years to live like that?" she started breathing heavily with anger.

"Grandma! It doesn't matter how he is living. He is happy with his life and that is important." The woman with said smiling at her.

"She is right! I am Maheshwari and you are?" I asked smiling.

"I am Tina!" she replied, smiling warmly.

"It's been a long journey for her. Can she take a rest?" she asked, holding her hand.

"Sure! Please come with me." I replied, but the Grandma frowned.

"I will stay at his house." She stated, but I shook my head.

"It is small like you said and will not be comfortable for you. And don't you want to stay at the house of the person who is also like your grandchild?" I asked her smiling and she finally nodded.

I took them to the first floor and went inside one unused guest room where both of them decided to stay. I talked to them for a few minutes before leaving to let them rest.

I started cooking finally feeling easy to do it after finishing the contract with the cook with Di's suggestion. Then I remembered that Di should meet James only family.

Maybe after they wake up, I will call her here and I don't know whether he told her about his marriage also. I frowned and immediately called Nakul while doing the work.

When he didn't lift I called James, who also ignored it. I sighed and continued to ring them in between but waited for them more.

"Maha!" I heard the voice and immediately walked out of the kitchen with everything finished to see Di walking into the house.

"Di!" I said, smiling and she just sat on the couch while I sat beside her.

"I don't know what to do, Maha. He is like so looking forward for divorce." She said, sighing, and I held her hand.

"Maybe now he can't do that." I offered making her frown at me.

"Do you know his grandma is against divorce?" I asked and she nodded frowning more.

"I should tell her and make her force him to stay married to me?" she asked like I am some stupid to suggest that.

"No! She is here in this house resting and she will get to know about the marriage by herself." I explained and her eyes widened.

"Good! But how did she travel alone without informing James? Or did he not tell me." She mumbled.

"She came with another woman and she is kind of near to James's age, but she is so sweet and warm." I said smiling and she nodded lost in her thoughts.

"And who is this?" we both got startled hearing the voice and looked up to see the person we are talking about reaching us.

"Grandma! She is my sister." I said, introducing her thinking it is better if James or Di explain the situation in their own terms.

"Nice! I couldn't sleep only." She said, shaking her head.

"Want to have lunch?" I asked her and she nodded.

"Where are these two?" she asked, looking at the door.

"They went out for some work and I am trying to call them, but they are not lifting. We will have our food." I replied and she nodded before Di and she walked to the dining area in silence while I left to call Tina.

"Everything looks delicious." Tina said, looking at the dishes after we settled.

"I don't know whether you can eat all this or not, but I put only little amount of spices and hope it will not be a problem." I explained for which Grandma and she waved off.

"This is delicious after tasting too." Tina complimented and I glanced at Di to see her lost in her thoughts.

After the lunch, I asked them both to sit while I can bring the desert for them. I pulled Di with me to the kitchen and stared at her.

"I don't want him to stay with me just because his Grandma insists." She commented and I chuckled.

"Di! He will stay because he wishes to. Now, remember she is your Grandma too, and try to communicate." I said and we both walked out of the kitchen holding the trays and sat down.

"Maheshwari! Can I ask you something?" Grandma asked and I nodded.

"Is James living with any woman or something like that?" she asked and I sit in silence not knowing what to tell her.

"Why?" Di asked her frowning.

"It's just this James blood line has a habit of keeping mistresses aside along with wives. I made sure my husband didn't do it and also my son. But James is living away and I don't know whether the blood of such reached him or he is safe." She explained, looking at both of us.

"You did a right thing. I mean, isn't a wife enough? They need another woman? I am so glad you took a good decision from your husband time." Di commented nodding.

"Isn't it? If they really want someone else, then we should be able to have the chance to do the same." The comment came from grandma.

"Exactly! Why such double standards? If ever I see a man talking about all this nonsense of I am a man and all I will kill him." Di said and Grandma smiled.

"I will help you with that. I was commented that I am not from their time, but I am glad I didn't allow everything." She said and Di grinned.

"Even I am glad." Di said and they both continued the topic while Tina shook her head smiling before excusing herself to freshen up.

"But why would the girl he is living would be a mistress? Wouldn't she be a girlfriend?" Di asked her frowning.

"Not now, but if he gets married and he continues with her then she will be, right?" Grandma asked back making me frown.

"And I will not allow him to do such with Tina." She added, making both Di and I stiff in our places.

"He is going to marry Tina soon." She continued not looking at our faces but has a smile over her's.

"Grandma! Did you ask James?" I asked when Di just sat there.

"Of course! I asked him two months back and he said he will tell me after four months. Maybe to think properly, but if he didn't want, then he would have said he didn't want to directly. Why would he have given time?" she asked, smiling and I sucked my breath while Di looks like she is not breathing.

"Actually, Tina and James were childhood sweethearts always together and even planned to marry. But it couldn't happen, but not because of James but because Tina left the island. He was so hurt, but now she realized her mistake and he stayed single until now for her only I think. See? Everything will get solved." She said with an excitement that I wished I could say nothing will get solved.

"Nakul!" she said, looking at the door and I glanced up to see him walking inside lost in his thoughts.

"How are you, dear boy? Your Grandpa said you were too hurt and you went out so soon? Where is this Grandson of mine?" she asked continuously while he frowned at her before giving her a small smile.

"I am fine! James is in the neighboring house looking around for any changes to be made to live in it. I am just... just tired. I will talk later." Saying that he walked off while she frowned.

"He is still weak and what is he saying about the neighboring house? The big one? I will go and meet him there only. Is this the surprise?" she asked, looking at me.

"What?" I asked, not understanding because of the speed she is going every second.

"Nakul's Grandpa said I have a surprise waiting here when he got to know I am coming to meet James. And he even gave some things to give you. Anyway, I will do it later, but for now I will go and meet James with Tina. Just imagine the surprise he will get?" saying that she walked off in a hurry even though I can see her legs moving slow.

After a few minutes, she returned with Tina and walked out of the house. I felt the grip on my hand tightening and glanced to Di to see her just staring at the wall.

"Di! I am sure it is all in her head. You saw how she goes like a bullet train before mentioning something properly?" I asked holding her shoulders.

"No! He said today that he has some plans after the divorce and... and she is right why would he ask for time instead of saying no?" she asked back.

"Di!" I whispered, not knowing what to tell her and assure her.

"Di! That house is for you. He bought that house for you." I said, remembering the incident.

"What?" she asked, frowning.

"Yes! It was a few months back and he didn't know much about anything about your words. He wanted to buy that for you and Nakul recently did it. He really wants to settle with you. Don't let their assumptions grow between you." I replied and she immediately stood up to walk but stopped.

"You said Tina is sweet and warm. How can I compete with that?" she asked in a weak voice and I immediately stood up before hugging her.

"Because you are the best, Di. If he can't see it, then he is stupid." I replied, making her chuckle with tears brimming in her eyes.

"Now, go!" I said and she grinned before rushing out of the house.

"I told you not to go out, right? See, now you are tired." I said entering the room and saw him lying on the bed but didn't reply to my words.

I know he is awake with the way he is breathing, but he didn't even remove his hand from his eyes. I sat beside him for a few minutes before lying down.

"Shall I bring lunch?" I asked, placing my hand on his chest and he stiffened.

"What happened?" I asked in a worried tone, removing his hand and held his face between my hands.

"Maheshwari!" saying that he suddenly hugged me with a force lifting himself up and I on my back with him over me.

"Nakul!" I whispered, holding him.

"Let me just hold you." He whispered and I didn't say a word understanding he doesn't want any words right now.

I will talk to him later, I thought and hugged him back while he slowly drifted off into sleep. My thoughts drifted from his behavior to everything going on with Di's life. Wasn't there enough problems that Grandma came with James ex? I shook my head, hoping everything goes well.

*Swathi Pov*

He bought it for me? Does that means he wants to live with me? Well, why did he buy that when I already told him it didn't matter.

Today I will confess that I love him and will not let him move until he says it back. I am saying it first so he needs to say it back.

I grinned and ran from the house before looking at the other side thinking which could be the way. But then if it is neighboring then I think it is the one which I see with a little distance from this everyday while leaving the house.

I remember the house a little, but I shook myself. It is not important how it looks at all. I ran to the house and started opening the gate while thinking how to tell him.

However, I stopped in my tracks looking at two people in the driveway little away from me. I held onto the gate looking at everything that is going before me.

He is laughing with her while holding her shoulders and there is pleasured look on his face. When was the last time that was returned to me?

And he pulled her into his arms to hug her while I staggered back. Oh god! Maha was wrong and Grandma was right.

This is his plan and he... he will just... I covered my mouth, taking deep breaths not wishing for a single tear to drop.

He is not cheating on me and hug is never that, but suddenly it feels like that with the emotion written on his face. He is doing nothing wrong, but why it is feeling like he is.

I ran away not able to see anymore and reached my... his house before stepping into the bedroom and fell on the bed. I closed my eyes, pressing my head to the pillow, wishing I can push the tears back.

But then smelling him on this pillow made it impossible and I finally let a few tears. I just laid there and stiffened hearing the voices.

"The house is amazing and I wish Tina was able to see it. But then you both got time to talk. She should have come with us here to continue to talk. There must be so much to talk, right? And I am glad you are buying a new house suitable for you instead of living in this small one." I can hear his Grandma's voice and her words are digging the knife more.

"This is more than I deserve with the job details because I am like anyone of my company." James reply made me smile but I pushed it away.

"Anyway, Tina looks beautiful than before." She commented and I held my breath.

"She was always." His comment made me release it and sniff while holding the tears in check.

"What is that sound? Anyway, I will stay here only along with Tina. Maybe she is better to stay there only with not much place here. How big is the bedroom anyway?" those words made me turn around and before I can get down from bed the door opened with her entering the room.

"Grandma! Will you ever stop talking or doing something?" he mumbled in a whisper before glancing at me with a frown.

Of course! All the smiles and laughs along with content looks for her while just frown for me. I shook my head and glanced at the woman who is looking at me like I am some poison making my anger enter my mind.

"What?" I asked her harshly, feeling she is the main reason for this sadness, but inside I know I am myself the reason for this.

"Who is she?" she asked, pointing me.

"She is Maha's sister." He replied in an awkward tone and I should get an award for not flinching.

"I know that! Who is she to you?" she demanded while he stared at me for a few moments.

"I am that mistress you were worried about." I replied and she gasped while he glared at me.

"Remove her from this house right now. I will not let you hurt Tine. Do you understand?" she asked him with anger covering her features.

"Calm down!" saying that he made her sit on the bed while I scrambled off to stand away from both of them.

"Are you going to leave? I thought there was some girl I know who is as thoughtful and ferocious as I was about things, but looks like I was wrong if you are still here after knowing he is practically engaged to Tina." She said frowning while I just stared at her.

"I am not engaged to anyone." He shouted, but we both ignored him staring at each other with hard expressions.

Then she glanced at my neck, making me realize what she is looking at. I immediately moved my hand to cover, but somehow I didn't want to and just stood there.

"Tell me she is married to you." She demanded and he sighed.

"Yes!" to his reply, she sighed in relief.

"You are relieved?" he asked frowning.

"Well, better that than you having an affair with a woman married to someone else." She replied as if that is the better option and I wished to smile at her right then but then remembered that she is the messenger who brought Tina here.

If she hadn't I would have thought there is high chance with him, but now knowing he loves someone else or near to it, I am not even going to try any chance.

"So, this is the surprise that old man talked about." She mumbled and stood up to look at him.

Before I can blink, she slapped him and I gasped while he stared at her with shock. She just glared at him shaking her head.

"Do you know what your secrecy made me do? I just hurt this poor girl." She said and I shook my head at her words.

"I talked about your past and your intention to marry. If you didn't want to marry Tina, then why the four months time?" she asked frowning.

"Because in two months we will be getting divorced." I replied when he stayed silent frowning at her making both of them stare at me.

"We both didn't want to marry each other but had to do it because of circumstances. Now, we both don't want to stay married. So, we will get divorced soon." I explained and she gasped.

"No! I will not allow it." She said, shaking her head.

"Why? Your wishes will come true even after two months. Now, if you will excuse me, I will make myself scarce while you can talk to him to know the complete story. And I am the bad person here so you need not worry to hear the story." Saying that I walked away without touching him even though he is standing near to the door.

I took my car keys and left the house before getting in the car. I drove off to the boutique and got inside to see everything still going on smoothly.

"I need everything that happened all these weeks along with anything I should look at. You can leave at the usual time ignoring my presence." I instructed my assistant and got into the work load which I ignored suddenly pushing this dream for something major but not anymore.

I will not trouble you again, James. No matter what I am, I was never the one to wish for someone to be with me with such reluctance. I will change my name if I ever trouble you. I started working, ignoring everything around me along with the memories.
