Chapter Twenty-Seven
Ruby and I approached our cabin. It had the exterior made up of oak, which radiated natural beauty of the woods.
Upon entering the tight-nit cabin, we were welcomed by the fresh and crisp smell of wood. Closing my eyes, I inhaled deeply, taking in the freshness masking me. The cabin was lit with happiness, this was the perfect place to get away from all the stresses of life.
Two single beds were situated towards the left side, they were adorned with soft white cotton bed sheets. My hand glided over the cotton sheets, the mere thought of relaxing in this bed sparked a peaceful wave within me.
On the right side, a sofa was lined against the wall, with a grand window behind it. The window looked out onto the acres of greenery. Various trees surrounded our cabin, it almost felt like the trees were protecting us.
"This is amazing," Ruby beamed, placing her bag on the table and taking various items of clothing out.
I hummed in agreement, aimlessly wondering around the room. Making my way towards the door on the far side, I found myself in a small and simple bathroom.
"We're going to have the best time here, don't let Melissa and Zac ruin it for you." Ruby came into the reflection of the bathroom mirror. All I could do was nod.
"You're right." I turned around facing her. "This is going to be the best weekend."
We both squealed in excitement and happily skipped around the room, setting it all to our liking and making it a temporary home for us.
After calming ourselves and relaxing within our cozy cabin, we met up with the rest. Everyone situated around the burnt out campfire, which was in the middle having the cabins surrounding it.
"Who's ready for a little wander around?" Brian clapped his hand, grabbing all our attention.
"We thought it would be nice to walk down one of the paths, just to check out the area." Mary's head bounced between the adults, who seemed excited to go on this calm evening walk.
We all awkwardly hummed and stepped around, avoiding each other's eyes, trying to make it less uncomfortable. I pulled Ruby closer to me, looping my arm around hers.
"Hannah sweetie, we'll be walking on some hilly areas, do you think you'll be okay? Have you got your inhaler?" My mum soothingly asked me.
I pondered on the idea, part of me didn't want to risk getting breathless resulting in an asthma attack. Just as I was about to politely reject going on the walk, Melissa snorted under her breath and rolled her eyes.
"Bullshit excuses." Left her mouth, barely audible, but enough for me to hear.
I cocked my head to the side, narrowing my eyes in despair towards her. I wasn't going to let her undermine me.
"I'll be fine mum. I've got my inhaler." A wide smile flashed across my face.
With Ruby by my side, I began the walk, passing closely by Zac, giving it my all to avoid meeting his eyes. The rest closely followed and I deeply sighed, wondering what this walk could entail.

Exploring Oakland Woods made me appreciate the beauty of nature. We walked alongside a flowing river. As the sun was starting to set, the evening glow glistened on the rocks of the river bed. The far noise of the birds and insects chirping made a melodious tone, that danced its way into my ears.
My parents, Brian and Mary eventually took lead in the walk, they all were deep in conversation as they carried on further. Zac and Melissa soon followed. Melissa kept Zac close, snaking her arm around his, as if she owned him. Ava and Lexi walked together in a killing silence, with Ruby and I at the back, arm in arm, treading along the wobbly path.
Just as I was enjoying the blissful walk, a dull pain started to weave into my foot. At first, I ignored it, trying shake away the uncomfortable sensation. As I wiggled my feet, trying to push the feeling away, it started to spread around my foot.
The dull pain then changed into a consistent stabbing pain. Abruptly stopping, I sucked in my breath, trying to take it all in. It then shot to my other foot, which caused me to jerk and fall to the floor. It was like my feet were paralysed with pain.
"Hannah?" Ruby gasped as she she fell to her knees, close to me. "What's happening? Are you okay? Guys! Stop!"
Everyone stopped in their tracks, and widened their eyes, witnessing the predicament I found myself in. The immense discomfort in my feet, snatched my ability to form words. I tightly shut my eyes, wincing through this strange form of torture.
"Shit." Ava muttered under her breath as she made her way to sit beside me, trying to comprehend what was happening.
"Hannah darling, what's happening?" My mothers concerned tone bounced from my father calling out my name.
I sucked in a deep breath and finally opened my eyes, only to see myself surrounded by everyone.
"I've... got a... cramp in both my feet." I managed to utter out a small sentence, but I was in such a torment.
"You need to take your boots off, let your feet breath," Zac advised, I turned to face him and his brows were furrowed.
His fist was clenched, almost as if he was holding back from reaching out to help me.
I reached over to pull my boots off, but with being ridden with so much discomfort, I was weak. It was too much to bare that I couldn't bring myself to do anything.
Just as my dad reached out to take my boots off, Zac came swooping in like a lightening bolt. He yanked both my boots and socks off. A fresh swell of air connected to my feet, but I was still laboured with immense ache. My feet were stretched in an alarming way and I couldn't regulate them to be set straight.
We were all lost for words at Zac's quick movement. Melissa was struck back, as if she had been slapped across the face. When Zac realised what he did, he froze on the spot, kneeling down close to me.
"I can't carry on with this walk," I trembled, trying to fill the silence with everyone in shock. "I need to go back."
With my shaky hands, I tried to push myself up from the ground, but the struggle was too much and I fell back, slumped into the dirt.
"Come on sweety, we'll help you to get back." My dad proceeded to help me.
"No dad!" I quickly yelped. "I don't want to ruin this walk for you, I'll try and go back myself."
"How can you go by yourself, you can barely stand," my mother quaked, holding and caressing my hand.
Both my feet were dreaded with an overwhelming amount of soreness, the cramp was there to stay, like it wasn't even bothering to budge.
"Zac honey, you're strong enough, take Hannah back to her cabin," Mary suggested.
An audible gasp escaped from my mouth, I turned to Ruby, who had her mouth gaped open. I faced Zac, subtly trying to nod my head in a bid to reject what his mother said. I could feel the pure anger ejecting from Melissa, her nostrils flared and her eyes stabbed into me.
Melissa edged herself forward, placing her hand on Zac's shoulder, in an attempt to get him to decline his mothers suggestion.
"Zac." Mary called out, obtaining her sons attention. "Help Hannah. Pick her up and take her back to the cabin."
After a few seconds of hesitation, Zac placed my boots and socks into my lap, urging me to hold them. He propped himself up from his knees, gliding one hand under my legs and the other around my waist.
In one quick movement, he got up from the ground and managed to pick me, my hand automatically clasped around his neck. Without saying a word, he strode back towards the cabins.
After erratically beating, my heart froze, with the sheer closeness and the elegant placement of his hands. I could feel the warmth and glow radiating from his body. The blood instantly rushed to my head and I felt like I was going to combust under his touch.
Before I knew it, we were back and we entered my cabin. Marching towards the bed, he placed me the bed which was masked with the soft cloud-like cotton sheets.
Zac stepped away from me, trying to catch his breath. Beads of sweat formulated across his head, showcasing he was flushed with heat.
He proceeded to whip off his hoodie, with slight struggle, his white t-shirt underneath rode up on his body, showcasing his lean and chiselled torso. I gulped at the heavenly sight. My frozen heart began to beat frantically, and the butterflies in my stomach were crazily floating around.
"You need to drink plenty of water and stretch your toes to get the cramp out." Zac threw a bottle of water close to me.
After all the amusement of being in his arms and the sneak peak of his body, I had forgotten the excruciating pain living within my feet. In an instant, the discomfort shot back.
Taking hold of the bottle, I gulped the water as fast as I could. With the attempt to flex my feet to relieve myself of the cramp, it only made matters worse, with the cramp stabbing both my feet.
"I can't move my feet, it's killing," I exclaimed wriggling in such uncomfortableness.
Zac let out a elongated sigh and placed himself on the edge of bed, he placed both of my feet in his lap. As I tried to worm myself out of his grasp, he raised his hand as a way of ordering me to stop.
One by one, he stretched each toe and the massaged the souls of my feet. He did this in a continuous pattern and slowly the pain started to dull down. I was amazed at how the method enabled me to get a normal sensation in my feet.
"How's that?" Zac's alluring eyes connected with mine, as he continued his therapeutic touch.
"Much better." My ability to think straight was back, I wasn't overridden with immense pain.
Just as I was getting comfortable, with the feathery touch of Zac's hand, he got up backing away. It felt oddly empty without the fiery feel of his strong hold. I cursed at myself for feeling this way, yet I felt conflicted with the treatment I often received from Zac.
"Why do you do this?" I bravely let out.
"What? What you talking" Zac shrugged his shoulders, titling his head to the side.
"Why are you being nice? You weren't like this before?"
"You want me to act like an arsehole towards you?" Zac questioned, whilst also letting out a slight chuckle.
"No, I didn't-"
"Keep your inhaler with you." Zac extended his arm handing it to me, cutting me off from responding. I was lost in my own world, I didn't notice Zac retrieving my inhaler.
Just as I leaned forward to take it from him, gravity enabled him to sit down on the edge of the bed, close to me.
His pinky finger twirled around mine. I couldn't quite comprehend what was happening, but it felt normal, the feeling was pretty much mutual. Our pinkies wrapped around together, like a perfect puzzle piece.
I didn't understand why my body was allowing me to do this, I fought hard to gather the courage to push him away, but I wanted him within my grasp.
Slowly, we were edging closer and closer. My chest bobbed up and down and my breaths deepened. Our faces were in close proximity, with our lips hovering. We were split seconds away from giving in to our scorching desire, till the cabin door shot wide open.
Zac jerked himself away from the bed and I slammed myself back.
Lexi stood like a statue as if she was trying to piece together what she saw. Her eyes narrowed, darting them back and forth between us.
Zac cleared his throat, readjusting his posture. "What you doing here?"
"We decided to come back, Melissa's looking for you." Lexi raised her brows at the mention of Melissa's name, she then took it upon herself to leave the cabin.
Just as I opened my mouth to utter something, Zac marched his way to the exit and left. Him leaving felt like a chunk of me was taken away.
Remembering the beautiful feeling of our kiss from the dare, I wanted to experience it again. There was slight guilt hidden in the back of my mind, at the crushing realisation that Zac was with Melissa, no matter how much I wanted him to grab me and kiss me.
The more I tried to bury and harbour my feelings for Zac, the stronger it got. It felt like it was spreading around my body like a plague. It was only a matter of time before I was going to get ill and infected by Zac.

This chapter is slightly longer, but I needed to get it all done! My girl Hannah survived not getting a asthma attack, but her foot cramp came swooping in!
We know Hannah likes Zac, but what do you think is going on in Zac's mind? Does he like Hannah? If he does then why is he with Melissa?
