I Cave a Civilized Conversation
"Hurry up," Jessica called out to me, "the boss is waiting."
I rolled my eyes. I did not't want to meet him but yet, there was a part of me that wanted to meet this enigma. Maybe, there is more to him than meets the eye.
His words kept echoing in my head. I hated how he managed to plant seeds of doubt in my mind. What if there was some truth to what he said?
I shook my hand to get rid of the thought. He was a thief and a murderer. There was no truth to his words.
I took in as much information about the layout of the building, it might come in handy sometime. We passed by many rooms and hallways. All were dimly lit. It also smelled like mould and dust, as if it was not inhabited.
I was not really paying much attention to my guard and so when she stopped, I bumped into her causing the both of us to fall down.
"You clumsy oaf!" Jessica screamed at me. "See what you've done."
"Sorry, I really didn't mean to." I apologized sincerely.
"Whatever, can you get off now? You're crushing me."
I got up and if I could blush, I would have been as red as a tomato. "Anyway, why did we stop?"
"This is where you are to meet the boss. Good luck." Somehow, Jessica managed to make these words sound deadly.
I gulped nervously. I was visibly nervous and I did not want anyone seeing me nervous. I took in deep, calming breaths and put on a confident face. There was absolutely no way I was going to let him intimidate me. I knocked on the door and entered the room.
The room was brightly lit and I closed my eyes at the sudden brightness. I had gotten used to the dim lights.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you again. I hope we can have a proper conversation this time." He said to me pleasantly.
I hope I can bash your face with my fist , I thought to myself but bit back my retort. There was no use in rilling him up. "Why don't you stop with your acting and get down to business. What do you want from me?"
"It's not what I want from you that matters. It is what you want from me. You want your freedom and you need to earn it."
I glared at him. I wished I could wipe af that smile from his face. "I do want my freedom, what do I need to do."
"I'm glad you asked. You know, I honestly thought it would be difficult getting you to cooperate. Turns out, I was wrong; for now. All you need to do is to help us on our next big heist."
"What might that be, if I may ask?"
"That is for you to find out later, once you prove you can be trusted. I am not dumb you know."
"How can I help if I have no idea what you are planning?"
"I know you can help even if I tell you the day the plan takes place."
"If you say so." He was not as careless as I thought. I would have to try extra hard to win his trust. He seemed very sure of me coming to his side. I can use that to my advantage. It's a good thing I have a degree in acting. Time to put those skills to use.
So, what do you guys think of my characters so far?
