Chapter 8: The Hard Decision (1/1)
-I'll fill out the recap later.
The sun hits his eyes as the birds chirp, signaling a new day. A shity new day. It just started, so how does he know it's going to be a shitty day? He just feels it in his bones, and he always trusts his gut.
He opens his eyes and stands up, running his fingers through his red hair trying to mat down all the strands that stick up in strange places. He goes to the truck and digs through one of the bags before pulling out his brush. Once through was enough to get his usual hair style again.
He goes to drop the brush back into the bag when his eyes get covered, "Guess who?"
He rolls his eyes before he grabs the wrist and turns around, "If you really wanted me to guess, you shouldn't have talked, (Y/n)."
"Well, you probably would've dropped kicked me if I didn't say something," she drops her arms before she goes around and grabs the hairbrush he was using.
He laughs, shaking his head slightly, "You know me so well already, (Y/n), and we've only known each other for what, two weeks?"
"I think it's been three, actually. Because we've been with my parents for a few days," she plays with the bristles before he rips it out of her hand. "Sorry."
"For what?" he reaches over the side of the truck and finishes putting it inside the bag it was originally in. "There's nothing to apologize for."
She observes him while he digs through another bag, trying to find a clean shirt. When he does, he takes off the one he's wearing and throws it into the back, unconsciously, her (e/c) eyes watch him the whole time, "So... when are we heading out?"
"Well, I was thinking that we'd need to leave relatively soo-" he stops as he thinks about taking her away from her family. He fixes his shirt and straightens it out before continuing, "And by we, I mean Heat, Wire and I."
"What about me?" she looks at him, her eyes full of curiosity and something else he can't quite tell.
"I..." he breaths out, staring at her intently. "I want you to stay here. With your family... and childhood friends."
"But we had a deal!" her face changes quickly. "You said that I had to stay with you until-"
"You're no longer useful to me," he shrugs turning away from her. "That was our deal. I was going to use you, but I don't need you anymore."
"The deal was that I help you get your friend back!" she follows him as he tries to walk away. "I still haven't-"
"That's fine. He's probably be creeped out that I brought a girl anyway," he runs his fingers through his hair again. "(Y/n), why are you trying so hard to come with me? You have an opportunity to be with your friends and family, not just some strangers who practically took you by force."
"Is that what this is about?" she lets out a sigh. "The fact you 'kidnapped' me? Well I don't care. If willingness is what you're worried about, I want to go! Let me come with you!"
"(Y/n)! Listen to me... you're a grown adult. I'll let you do whatever you want," he lets out a frustrated breath, letting his anger show as he slams his fist onto the side of a building, "But let me tell you, if you come with me, you might never get to see any of these people again. Just take some time and think it ov-"
"I don't need time to consider it," she says without missing a heartbeat or step. "I want to go with you. Kid, you're my friend as well. And I'll know where they are if we ever come back, but if you leave... I fear that I'll truly never get to see you again. You said I'm a free adult, but why are you so eager to leave me behind? Do you hate me? What did I do wrong?"
"You didn't do anything wrong," he lets out another frustrated breath, "Whatever, you're about as stubborn as a fucking mule, (Y/n). Do whatever you want. We'll be leaving after lunch."
She smiles as she watches the man stalk off to find Heat or Wire, or maybe even both of them. He waits to get out of her view before he leans against the nearest support, his heart is racing a million miles and he has no idea why. It all started when she started to fight back at him. She really wants to stay with me that bad?
He places his hand on his chest and takes a deep breath. Suddenly, he can't stop smiling. And he wants to smack the smile off his face so badly, but he can't.
After lunch, they finish packing up and they all turn to say their goodbyes, (Y/n) hugging every last one of them. She kneels down on the ground and pulls the fluffy white dog into her arms, "I'll miss you the most, Bepo!"
"Ouch, I felt that," Shachi places his hand over his chest. "Right here."
"Do you mean your heart?" Law looks at him out of the corner of his eye. "Because that's on the other side of your body."
"Oh, shoot," he drops his hand before rubbing the back of his neck. "You all can tell I failed anatomy now, can't you?"
"We could tell before that," Heat pats his back. "It was nice having someone who talks more than one sentence a chapter."
"Chapter?" Penguin folds his arms and tilts his head. "What in the hell do you-"
"That's just Heat being Heat, and besides the point," Wire sighs out. "The point is... what Heat wants is for you guys to come with us..."
"Oh, no," Law shakes his head and scratches behind Bepo's ears. "It's quite alright I'm certain your capt-"
"No! That's a great idea! Kid!" she turns to face him and stares at him, trying to beg him. "Can they please come with?"
He looks over at them all, before his eyes stop on Law. They both just stare at each other for a while before he lets out a sigh, "They can do whatever they want. I'm not making this decision for them. But if they come, they have to listen to me."
"I'll go tell mom and dad!" she runs off before anyone else had time to react. Besides Bepo, he barked and chased after her.
Kid sighs out and looks at Law, "Where's your car? I'll take you to get it started."
