Chapter 5: While on the Road (1/2)
I wrote most of this over the weekend, but I did upload it today, so it might count as this weeks chapter. I don't know, it depends on what you guys think. (But be sure to tell me what you think about the chapter as well, CX).
------------
Previously...
Kid walked in on (Y/n) while she was getting changed, she threw a few thinks at him before he left. But when she went downstairs, he acted like nothing happened and forced her into his truck. This resulted in them fighting in the ninety-degree weather, until Heat found his lost keys. Now, we pick up with them continuing on their journey.
--------------
They sit inside the cab without speaking to each other for a few hours before he starts to stare at her out of the corner of his amber eyes. She feels his gaze, so she turns her head towards him. His eyes immediately slide back onto the road and he swallows pretty hard.
"Something I can help you with?" she leans back into the seat. They're actually really comfortable. "Cat caught your tongue, Kid?"
"No, I was just going to tell you to change the cd," he points to the glove box with his finger as he maneuvers to the left to avoid a car left randomly in the middle of the freeway.
"Are there porn mags in there?" she brushes a strand of (h/c) hair out of her face. "Because if there are, I'd rather not se-"
"Why would I have porn magazines in my car?" he rolls his eyes at the thought before he hits the eject button on the radio. "If I had any, they'd be in my room."
"Whatever," she rolls her eyes before opening up the compartment and pulling out the cds, placing the disc he had inside it's case. She looks at him, expecting him to tell her which one to put in.
"Well?" he runs one of his hands through his hair as he lets out a sigh. "Put one in already."
"You want me to choose?" she furrows her brow in confusion. Is this the same person as the one who found me? "Is something wrong with you?"
"Are you questioning me?" he lets out an aggravated sigh before he turns down the air conditioner. "Just listen and put a fucking cd in the player."
She nods slightly, There he is, before she pops in her favorite, out of the ones he has, cd. She puts the rest back before she looks out the window, "Tell me more about you, (Y/n). You know about my family, and my friend group, what was your life like?"
"Well, my family was a decent family," she thinks about her father and mother with a smile on her face. "They spoiled me, and they practically let me do whatever I wanted as long as it wasn't illegal or dangerous. But I think they would've been normal parents if they didn't always feel so guilty."
"Guilty?" he slows down to turn off of the freeway, "Why would they feel guilty if they let you do whatever?"
"My brother died because he was mad that they wouldn't let him go to his friend's party he threw for graduation," she notices the sky getting dark, but she doesn't know if it's because it's getting to be night, or if it's going to rain. "He was an outgoing freshman, so he knew a few of the seniors graduating and he wanted to go... he was foolish, honestly. He ran away... we thought that he'd come back... but the next thing you know, it's five months later and his body was just found."
"He was abducted, and held captive for a few months before he was shot once in the head," she bites the bottom of her lip. "I was really young then, I don't remember most of it... but that's when they started to not care. They still love me... I'm sure, but they couldn't handle the thought that if they had only let him go, it wouldn't have happened to him."
It's quiet for a long time, a really long time, before Kid lets out a sigh, "That sucks."
"What sucks?" she turns her head to look at him, but his eyes are on the road. She looks back out the window and leans her head on the glass. "Well, I'm over it now. I'm sure my parents are still alive... they're probably worried about me... I guess."
The quiet fills the space once more for a little while, nothing but a song playing in between them. Until he hits the power button, "Do you want to see them again?"
"My parents?" his hands wrap around the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turn white. Her (e/c) orbs focus on his reflection in the mirror. "Of course I want to see them again... I love them."
He hits the power back on the radio and for rest of the ride that night, they don't say another word. Kid waves his hand out the window to signal to Heat that they were going to stop for the night so that they can be rested for tomorrow's trip.
They stop in a parking lot for an old hotel. Almost as soon as he turns off the engine, Kid jumps out of his car and goes to find the power breaker. (Y/n) lets out a sigh as she opens up the door and slides out, trying not to hit the ground too hard; she might be able to walk, but she's still not fully healed because they don't have any medication.
Wire holds his hand out for her and she takes it, safely getting out of the truck and closing the door behind her, "Thanks Wire. I appreciate your helping hand."
He gives her a nod before walking away to help Kid, Heat already off doing the same thing. She stretches her back before she starts off to the office, she wonders if the heater here works because she really wants to shower. The keys for the rooms are hanging up on the wall behind the desk, so she climbs over it and grabs a few of them.
Once she hops down, the lights turn back on and she hears Kid's voice. Probably calling out so that the others know he's found the fuse box. She exits the building and turns the corner to find the trio waiting for her, so she holds up the keys and shrugs.
They each get their own rooms, so they say their goodbyes and head off the bed. Before (Y/n) goes to bed, she hops into the shower. Once she's done, she turns the knob off and exits the shower; the water might've been cold but it was better than nothing.
She grabs Kid's shirt and places it over her head, the warmth spreading through her body causing a smile to form on her lips. She leaves the bathroom and flops down onto her bed before she hears the door to the room next to hers open and close. She sees a shadow pass by the window and keep walking, she raises her eyebrow but cuddles into the blankets.
If she remembers correctly, Kid was the one who had the key to the room that just had someone leave. She doesn't care, she rolls over on her side, but why did he leave his room?
She turns on her other side as the shadow passes her window again. She lets out a sigh before she sits up, it's dark out. Her feet touch the floor as she walks over to the door and opens it. She exits and turns to see Kid leaning against the wall, "Are you... okay?"
"I'm fine," he dismisses her concern before he eyes her out of the corner of his eye. "You shouldn't be out here, you might get sick. And I don't want to take care of you."
"It's hot out," she rolls her eyes before she leans against the wall next to him. "I'll be fine."
"Where do your parents live?" he says after a while of silence. Her eyes widen and she looks at him. "I don't actually care that you said you missed them earlier. It's just, we might be passing through the town. That's all."
"They live in a small town called Silverborn," her eyes never leave the male. "They moved out of the town my brother and I were born in when I was eleven."
He nods before he turns around, opening his door before he looks over his shoulder one last time, "Get some rest. You're going to need it for tomorrow."
The door slams shut once again and she's left outside. Maybe he really isn't all that bad, sure he's rough, hot-headed, and highly insensitive. But he's not all bad.
