Chapter 4: On Their Way (3/3)
"Let's go get in the car, smartalec," he puts his hands on the back of his head before he saunters away. Her eyebrow raises as she watched him, she'd never expect to see a man, especially one like him, to saunter.
"I have officially seen everything now," she mumbles as she follows behind him. He opens the door for her before walking around to the other side and hopping in. "For me? How sweet of you."
"Oh, shut the hell up and get in the fucking truck," he slams his door shut, turning to her and watching her as she struggles to get inside on her own. "You're really funny to watch, but just stop wasting my time and get in."
"I don't know what you mean," she grabs onto the door and hoists herself up, falling into the cushion. "Are we going or not?"
"We are, I was just going to point out that you've gotten in here without a problem before and now you're 'struggling'," he uses air quotes before he turns the key in the ignition. "And before you say anything, we're on our way."
They sit in silence for a while before the truck parks in front of Heat's place. His old minty, blue car parked out front. Kid sighs out before he slides out of the door, leaving the key in the ignition and the car running. She stays in her seat quietly as the door slams and he trudges up to the strangely blue colored door.
She finds herself thinking about how Kid and Heat have almost an assigned color, Wire seems to like black, but he doesn't talk to her, so what does she know. She leans back in the chair, letting a sigh escape her lips. It's so fucking hot in the vehicle, she feels as if she's going to burn alive.
Unconsciously, her hand goes to the AC knob and she turns it up one. Once she realized what she'd done, she turns it back off. It's his car, she should at least ask if he minds. Until he comes back, she rolls down her window.
The hot breeze slaps her face, so she sticks out her tongue. She hears the front door shut before he climbs back into the car. She feels his eyes on her, so she turns and stares back at him.
"Heat lost his keys, so we need to wait for him to find them. Also, you're insane, why'd you roll down the window?" he runs his hands through his hair. "If I had to guess, its about ninty-degrees out there."
"It's not any better in here," she mumbles, leaning forward, her skin peeling from the seat's surface. "My sweat is making me stick to your seats..."
"Ew," he scrunched his nose before he leans backwards into the seat. "Please refrain from sweating all over my seats."
"How about you turn on the AC or something," she grabs the top of his shirt, the one she's wearing, and fans herself. "Something tells me that wearing black was the wrong choice..."
"Every choice you make is wrong, and I'm not going to turn on the AC," he breathes out, placing his arm next to the window. "Do you know how much gas that consumes?"
"It's summer," she puts her legs up onto the dashboard as they wait for Heat to find his keys. "And you're telling me that you're not going to put on the fucking AC?"
"Why should I?" he taps his fingers, which she's just now noticing that he layered black polish on, onto the surface by his window. "It's not that hot in here."
"What are you talking about?" she rips her eyes away from his fingers and stares out the front of the vehicle. "It's like a million degrees."
"Quit exaggerating," his fingers stop their drumming as his eyes slide over to the women in his passenger seat. "You and I both know that the only thing hot in this car, isn't the air, it's me."
She rolls her eyes briefly, "You and I both know that, that is a lie."
"Are you calling me a liar?" he scoffs, running his fingers through his hair again. "I don't like the thought that some girl I just met two or three days ago is calling me a lair."
"Two or three? Couldn't you have just said a few?" she rolls her eyes again, looking to the side, mimicking the sound he made. "Are you sure, I'm the idiot here?"
"You're walking on thin ice, (Y/n)," his eyes situate themselves onto the door as he senses movement. Heat comes out and waves his keychain, giving both of them a nod and a gigantic smile. "Thank god, I though that I was going to boil alive sittin out here."
"What happened to not turning on the air because it would waste too much gas?" she feels the cool air on her face as her eyes watch the blue-haired man through the back window.
"We have a ton of gas, and when we find a gas station we'll probably stop and get even more," he looks through the rearview mirror to check if Heat was ready or not. He takes the truck out of park and looks at her. "If I were really concerned about the gas, I would've turned off the car. I just really wanted to see you all hot and bothered."
"You're a sick pervert, Kid!" she huffs out as she turns her body so that she's facing out the window. She places her head on her fist as she bites the inside of her mouth.
"Some girls find it attractive," he steps on the gas as they pass through the little community that Heat had lived in.
"Well, I don't," she folds her arms and looks over at him. His eyebrow slightly raised, but he doesn't say anything. "I don't want to date a jerk who's so shallow, that he'd do something like that."
"I'd beg to differ," he shrugs as he turns back to the road. "You seem to like me just fine."
"As a friend," she looks out of the side mirror and lets out a sigh. She sees his face change out of the corner of her eye, and she feels like she said something wrong. "Acquaintance. I've only known you for a few days... you're definitely, not my friend... maybe?"
"Just shut up," he jams the play button to the radio and turns up the cd, drowning out any of her thoughts as her favorite song plays.
