Prologue

"SPRING BREAK!" Kids yelled as they ran out of class.

Despite almost being high schoolers, many of the kids acted like they hadn't had school breaks before. They ran through the gates, to their cars, or to the buses depending on where they lived, all the while cheering for the time away from school.

"Do you guys have any plans for the break?" Jordan asked his group of friends.

"Hmm, not really. I'm just going to skate all day and play hockey," a now 14-year-old Riley replied. "You guys want to join me?"

"I would but I'm traveling to Japan to visit my grandparents," Riley's friend, Faye, answered.

"Japan?!" Riley and Jordan exclaimed.

"Yeah, I haven't been there since we moved here," Faye replied sheepishly.

"Cool! What about you Jordan?" Riley asked.

"My dad signed the band up for a few gigs so I'll mainly be practicing," the curly-haired boy replied absentmindedly.

Riley looked at both her friends, remembering the first time they had met. Coincidentally, both of those friendships were made on the ice rink. She met Jordan when she bumped into him and made him drop his water bottle. She tried to help him but he didn't seem to be focused so she left him to go play. They started to talk a bit after that, but it wasn't until he got rid of his shyness and became more chill that they actually became friends.

Faye on the other hand was also a hockey player. She had moved to San Francisco around the same time as Riley, but they didn't talk until the day before halloween. Faye asked if Riley wanted to go trick-or-treating with her which was something Riley had actually planned to ask her.

After having fun hanging out they found that both of their parents were the ones who pushed the idea for them to hang out- which they were glad for.

"When are you leaving, Faye?" Riley asked.

"Today, my parents are actually waiting for me right now. I'm all packed, I just came to school to see you guys," Faye replied.

She turned to her car where her mom had stepped out to make sure Faye could see her. Faye's mom waved at the kids before going back in the car. Riley waved back but Jordan was in his own world and seemed not to notice.

"I hear they have some rocking bands in Japan, bring back a souvenir," Jordan told her.

Of course, he was too busy thinking about the bands to notice Faye's mom. Riley chuckled in disbelief.

"Yeah! I've always wanted to try that Japanese soda with the marble inside," Riley added.

Faye laughed and nodded.

"Okay, I will see what I can bring. Well, I'll see you guys when we come back to school. Bye, I'll text you both," Faye replied and gave them a quick hug before running to her car.

"Guess it's just you and me, huh?" Riley asked Jordan.

Jordan's eyes widened and he froze.

~In Jordan's mind~

"Wait, just the two of us?! No, we need more people! Maybe we can call the band!" Jordan's Fear exclaimed while running around.

The "Girl" alarm blared at Headquarters for the first time in a while.

"Calm down! Remember our strategy?" Jordan's Anger asked.

"You better hurry too or else Riley will never talk to us," Jordan's sadness added.

"Right, okay", Jordan's Fear replied, closed his eyes, and breathed in.

Jordan's Joy and Disgust were still in their own world skating around the headquarters. Fear finally calmed down and opened his eyes. His mind went blank as he laid down on the floor.

~Outside~

"Jordan? Are you okay?" Riley asked tilting her head with a raised eyebrow.

He just stared at Riley with his mouth agape and eyes wide.

"Okay, well I have to head home. Bye," Riley replied and waved goodbye as she made her way home.

"Okay, see ya," Jordan finally broke from his trance and replied in his usual nonchalant tone.

~In Riley's mind~

"That was strange, wasn't it?" Joy asked confused.

"I had such a deja vu right there," Disgust added.

"Maybe Jordan doesn't want to be friends," Fear added. "Do you think he's mad at Riley or something?"

"But Jordan is one of our best friends. If he hates us Riley will just lay down all day and sulk," Sadness added and demonstrated.
"Actually, that doesn't sound so bad."

"Calm down! So what if he doesn't want to be friends anymore? Who needs him?" Anger replied from the couch.

"Everyone, calm down. Remember when we first met Jordan?" Joy asked.

She pulled up the memory to remind everyone. Riley was walking to the rink when she bumped into Jordan making him drop a water bottle. She picked it up and handed it to him but he just stared at her. The memory turned purple.

"What's going on? Fear did you touch the memory?" Joy asked.

"Of course not!" Fear replied and started rocking back and forth. "That hasn't happened since Sadness touched Riley's memories last year."

Joy grabbed the still yellow memory and inspected it. She pulled it up again, it replayed like normal until Jordan's face showed up. The screen became purple again but the orb was still yellow.

"There's something weird going on," Joy mumbled.

"So what do we do? Call the brain workers to fix the console?" Disgust asked.

"I haven't read anything about this in the manuals. They might not be able to help but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry," Sadness replied from the ground.

"That's the spirit! I agree with Sadness," Fear told Joy.

"Okay, we'll wait a bit to see if it happens again and then we'll ask the workers for help," Joy replied.

Everyone agreed and went on with their day.

~Outside~

Riley rubbed her eyes as she started seeing different colors while remembering her first meeting with Jordan.

"Did something get in my eye?" Riley asked.

She looked around and blinked but her vision was back to normal.

"Weird, maybe I'm just tired," she mumbled and continued walking.

Once she made it home she saw the car in front and realized her parents were home early. She ran up the stairs and inside the house.

"Hi Mom. Hi Dad, why are you home so early?" Riley asked and put her backpack on the coat rack before looking around.

She heard some shuffling coming from the right and walked over.

"Hey Monkey!" Her dad greeted her from the dining table. "How was school? You don't have any homework, right?"

"It was fine. No, I'm completely free this week. Why are you home so early?" Riley asked again.

"Oh, well we decided that since you have spring break and we haven't had much time together lately we could take a few days off work," her mom replied from the kitchen.

"Cool. I'm going to change. What are we eating today?" Riley asked.

"How about spaghetti?" Her mom asked.

"And tonight we can watch a movie," her dad added.

"Sounds great. I'll be down in a bit," Riley told them and went up stairs.

"So, honey, what do you want for your birthday?" she heard her dad ask, "Not that I didn't already know or haven't gotten you one something. Just curious."

Riley stood still and tiptoed closer to the stairs.

"Well, tomorrow there will be a new release of a stuffed animal my sister used to have when we were younger at the mall. Since I can't have her close to me I'd love to get it as a little reminder. It's a giant stuffed-toy unicorn," her mom replied.

Riley quickly and quietly made her way to her room. She jumped on her bed and grabbed her laptop to look the toy up. It was perfect! She had enough money, the release didn't start too early, and she could walk there and come back within an hour.

~Downstairs~

"Is she gone?" Jill asked.

Bill nodded in response.

"I just feel like we're setting her up for so many hardships," she admitted to her husband. "Can't we tell her about us? To make it a little easier?"

"It was a miracle that we got Will to give us a warning now all we can do is have faith that nothing worse than the first time happens," Bill replied and held his wife's hands. "You know how fragile these things are."

"I know, and I promised myself I wouldn't fight it but knowing that it'll happen within the next 7 days... I guess all we can do is guide her when she comes back," Jill sighed in defeat.

"Our monkey will be fine, she's just like her mother- strong-willed and determined," Bill reassured her.

"But she's also like her father- selfless and impulsive," Jill laughed.

Her husband smiled before frowning slightly.

"How about we go on a picnic tomorrow to the park? Then we can go ice skating, a little family outing," Bill suggested.

"That would be amazing," His wife replied and gave him a tender kiss. "Now, I'm going to start making spaghetti."

"I'll set the table," he replied and stood up from the table.

~In Chicago Year: 2043~

"Good mornings Tip!" Oh yelled making Tip fall off her bed.

"Aaahhh! Oh! What time is it?" Tip groaned from the floor.

Everything was so dark she couldn't see past her nose.

"It is beings the 4 in the mornings!" Oh replied, still excited.

"4 in the morning?! Oh, why are you waking me up so early?!" Tip asked and sat up.

She fumbled to turn her lamp on but managed to after stubbing her toe. As the light illuminated her face it was safe to say she was not a morning person, with her hair poofed out, her red, barely open eyes, and her dry-drool covered mouth.

"My Aunt Linda is comings today to celebrate her day of birth tomorrow and I wants to get something specials for her!" Oh replied and ran to the closet. "You said last time that you have to accompany me in the next gift giving."

"Oh, Aunt Linda isn't coming until tonight. *Yawn* You have plenty of time to find something," Tip replied and climbed back in bed. "And we are not traveling to different planets in search of the perfect gift again."

"But Tip! My Aunt Linda needs to know that I sees her as family," Oh whined and jumped on her bed. "You said my last gifts were not appropriate."

Tip grabbed her pillow and put it over her head trying to block out the noise.

"Oh, she knows you see her as family, she sees you as family too," Tip groaned from beneath the pillow. "I'll help, just... go back to bed. I need my beauty sleep."

"But Tip! We are runnings out of time!" Oh pleaded with her. "I will go alones if you go back to sleep."

Tip took the pillow off her face and remembered the gifts Oh had gotten their aunt.

~ Boovian Holiday Flashback~

"Here you goes My Aunt Linda!" Oh declared and handed her a gift.

"Oh, you didn't have to," Aunt Linda replied but opened the box when she saw Oh's hopeful expression.

Inside there was some sort of Boovian device. Linda took it out and examined it confused.

"It is a permanent hair remover! So you don't have to worry about your unibrow ever agains!" Oh declared happily.

"Linda," Lucy Tucci mumbled unsure of what to say.

Aunt Linda covered her forehead with her hand and stood up. She grabbed her stuff while tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Thank you Oh. I love it, but I should get going bye," she said shakily and ran out the door.

"Aunt Linda! Oh didn't mean it!" Tip called but her aunt was already gone.

"I think she enjoyed my gift the most," Oh happily stated.

~Christmas Flashback~

"It is now times for my gift!" Oh proclaimed and brought out a huge box. "This is being for you My Aunt Linda!"

"Oh, is it like the last gift? Because-" Linda asked before Oh interrupted.

"Do not mentions that gift just opens this one," Oh instructed.

Linda hesitantly pulled the ribbon on the present, making it open up. Inside there was a giant alien creature. It roared, picked her up, and placed her on its back.

"It is a Groglemat! They like to teach its boring owners to party that ways you can have fun instead of workings all day!" Oh replied excited to amend last gifts disaster.

"Right, umm, woah!" Linda held onto the reins as the Groglemat started to jump around. "Thanks Oh, it's very thoughtful of you to try to help me to not be boring."

Tip and her mom just facepalmed and shook their heads. No matter what Oh said, they would definitely help him pick out a gift next time.

~Back to the Present~

"You're right. But we need to wait until Mom wakes up," Tip told him and yawned. "We don't want to accidentally give her the same present Mom did."

"I will wakes her up!" Oh declared and ran out.

"Wait, Oh, no! It's too-"

"Wakings up My Mom!"

"Aaahhh!!"

"-early," Tip finished and facepalmed.

Good thing she was on Summer break otherwise she would have flipped about waking up early on a school day.

"Today is going to be a long day," Tip sighed.
