Chapter 2: Far from Home

"Yes!" Riley cheered as she ran out of the store.

She somehow managed to get the last unicorn left in the store. She wasted no time to grab it, pay it, and run out. It was still early in the day so she decided to pass by her favorite candy store for the chocolate. She held onto the unicorn until she realized that someone from school might see her.

"I think I should put it in my backpack," Riley mumbled and took her bag off before placing the unicorn inside.

"Hey," someone said.

Riley stood up and noticed a girl in front of her. She had dark skin, curly hair, and green eyes. She also seemed to be around her age, maybe older.

"Umm, hello?" Riley replied and looked around.

"I'm Gra— Gracie Tu— uh, Turner, and, uh, I was wondering if there were any more of those?" The girl asked.

"Sorry, I got the last one," Riley replied.

"Would you be willing to sell it to me?" Gracie asked.

"No, sorry," Riley replied and tried to walk away but Gracie got in her way.

"Can I at least hold it then? Just for a bit? Please?" She pleaded.

"No, look, I need to get home," Riley replied getting annoyed.

Gracie looked behind Riley with wide eyes,
"Oh, no wait I can handle—!"

Riley turned back just in time to see a guy in some sort of alien suit run toward her and steal her bag.

"Tip, let's go!" He yelled.

Gracie or "Tip" ran after him and told Riley, "We'll bring it back I promise!"

"Hey! Come back here!" Riley exclaimed and ran after them.

They ran as fast as they could but Riley wouldn't slow down. Tip made it to their car first and opened the passenger door. She climbed in and started the car. Oh was about to get in after her but Riley grabbed the bag and pulled it.

"You thieves!" Riley exclaimed.

"Sorry, but we really need it!" Tip apologized and pulled Oh in which accidentally pulled Riley inside as well.

Riley's elbow hit a button and Oh squished Tip against the door causing her to step on the gas. The car sped forward making Riley and Oh fall to the back seat.

"What the—!" Riley gasped and looked around. "Are we flying?!"

"Oh, the button is stuck! I can't stop the car!" Tip yelled.

"You can't what?!" Riley screamed.

A purple hole opened up in front of them. Riley climbed to the passenger seat.

"What is going on?! This is the worst day of my life!" She exclaimed.

"Really? This is pretty normal for us!" Tip replied despite also freaking out.

They were sucked into the portal where they saw various clear tunnels around them.

"There must be something you can do!" Riley replied and started pressing buttons.

A purple gooey liquid got on her hands and she freaked out. She started to struggle as her hand was stuck to the panel.

"What is this!?" Riley asked, finally breaking free, ripping a bit of the car off.

"You're purple!" Tip exclaimed.

"I'm what?!" Riley asked and looked in the car's rear-view mirror.

"The time-flux!" Oh exclaimed.

The car started to shake and fall. The three of them screamed as the car started to fall. They closed their eyes and waited for impact. They were flung forward and then back as the car landed. Riley quickly opened the car door and jumped off.

"What is happening?!" Riley yelled.

"Oh nos! We have lost the time-flux and the car is being out of fuel," Oh said as he looked at the back of the car from the inside.

"Fuel is easy to find, as for the time flux, can't you make a new one?" Tip asked and rubbed her head.

Riley looked between the two of them, bewildered.

"I could but it will be takings some time. Maybe a week," Oh replied.

"That's fine we can just go back to a few hours after we left," Tip replied.

Riley's blood began to boil as she saw the two of them talking about the incident casually.

"Hello!? The girl you kidnapped is still here!" Riley exclaimed and balled her fists.

A fire formed near Slushious. Tip and Oh gasped and held each other.

"Okay, girl, you need to calm down," Tip tried to reason.

"Calm down?! I just crash landed in a flying car with two strangers who tried to steal my bag!" Riley exclaimed.

She suddenly thought of an idea and felt around her pockets. She took her phone out but it was cracked.

"Are you kidding me?!" She exclaimed frustrated.

The front of the car bursted into flames. Tip ran out to throw some snow on it but Oh stayed inside.

"Maybe a week and a half," Oh added and went into the back seat.

'Wait, snow?' Riley thought and looked around.

It almost looked like she was back in Minnesota from all the snow. There was no way she was in San Francisco anymore.

"Are you an alien too?" Tip asked her once the fire was out.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Riley asked.

"I've just witnessed you turn a different color twice and make something weird happen twice," Tip replied and pointed to the ground beneath Riley's feet.

She looked down and noticed a ring of wet dirt beneath her. Her clothes also looked a bit stiff like if they were just ironed.

"Of course I'm human! What did you do to me?" Riley accused and stepped out of the ring.

"Girl, we didn't do anything except steal your bag and kidnap you," Tip replied.

"She is beings like those super heroes!" Oh told Tip.

"You're right! She's like that one comic book superhero! What's her name?" Tip asked.

"I don't think this is the time to be talking about superheroes," Riley sighed afraid to burst again.

"I promise we're trying to help you," Tip replied. "Em Path! That's the superhero's name!"

"Yes! You are correct!" Oh agreed.

"Can you please just explain to me who you are and what is going on?" Riley asked in an almost pleading tone.

"Well, I'm Gratuity Tucci but my friends call me Tip. This is Oh, he's a Boovian. We're from the year 2043," Tip replied.

"Gratuity and Oh. Okay, I'm Riley Andersen and you're sure you didn't do anything to me?" Riley asked.

"Yes, nothing inside of Slushious could cause you to turn colors," Oh replied. "Please don't be mads again, I cannot go out in the snow or my core temperature will drop and I also do nots wish to burn inside of Slushious."

"That's why we're talking about the super hero! Maybe you're a super?" Tip suggested.

"A super? Supers aren't real," Riley replied not even wanting to entertain the notion.

"Most people would say aliens, flying cars, and time travel don't exist either," Tip retorted.
"And those are the people who don't have all of that in front of them. If you are a super, maybe whatever helps her control them can help you too."

"How does... how does she control her powers?" Riley asked, feeling silly as soon as she asked.

"I don't know. I never really read her comics," Top replied with a shrug.

Riley gaped and balled her fists.

~Time Skip~

"Chocolate? That's it?" Riley asked as she read the comic.

She and Tip were tasked with buying winter clothes, food, and other essentials for the three of them. Comic books and chocolate also counted as essentials if they didn't want Slushios to be reduced to rubble. Oh couldn't look at what needed repair until he could stay warm outside of Slushious so he stayed behind.

Somehow, Riley was now okay with everything that was happening. She did however go through all 5 stages of grief within 5 minutes. In that time she turned green, red, blue, purple, and yellow.

A few things happened: a nauseas smell formed, some trees were burned, it rained, there was some more purple goo, and some light from Riley's palms blinded them.
Luckily, she was back to normal after.

"Hey, I don't blame her. Chocolate is pretty good," Tip argued and took a piece of Riley's chocolate bar.

"Well, I didn't blow anything up when that guy bumped into me right now so that's good," Riley replied.

They continued to talk as they made it back to the car which had fortunately landed in the woods where few people could find them. Even with the smoke Riley made.

"Wait, so you're telling me that you accidentally disintegrated the unicorn?" Riley asked.

"Yeah, that's why we wanted yours. Making too many trips back will cause a rip in the space-time continuum or something," Tip replied.
"We've experienced it before and it's not that fun."

"Wait, why didn't you travel to before you disintegrated it?" Riley asked.

"We thought about it, but if we accidentally met with our past selves something bad could have happened," Tip replied.

"Makes sense I guess," Riley replied.

"Thank goodness you are beings back!" Oh said and took the coat, socks, and hat Tip brought for him.

"We had to go to a few stores to find what we needed," Riley replied. "The good thing is we found everything. That currency pouch is very useful."

"Thankings you. Now I can finally be checking up on Slushious," Oh told them and got out of the car.

Tip and Riley decided to wait inside of the car while Oh did his thing.

"You know Gratuity, I never thought I would find myself in this situation," Riley admitted to Tip.

"Trust me, I didn't either 3 years ago, but here I am," Tip agreed. "After a while nothing surprises you. Well, meeting a super is a bit surprising."

"Imagine what being a Super feels like," Riley sighed.

"So, your parents aren't supers?" Tip asked.

Riley snorted, "I wouldn't be this surprised about having powers if I knew they had any, but they're pretty normal."

"They don't act suspicious? Leave for long periods of time? Seem to be hiding something?" Tip asked.

Riley shook her head no.

"They're as normal as any parents. They're supportive, sometimes a little too much, they always tell me they love me, they still kiss me goodnight," Riley smiled at the thought but sniffled and felt tears falling.

It start to rain heavily. Riley grabbed the chocolate and took a bite. She turned to Tip who was glowing blue. She was looking away and holding back tears.

"Must be nice to grow up with two parents. My dad died before I was born so I don't know what that's like. My mom has more than enough love but I don't think it's the same," Tip admitted and sobbed. "I'm sorry I don't know why I'm like this. It happened so long ago."

"It's my fault," Riley replied and took another bite of the chocolate.

Oh jumped inside the car and closed the door.

"Did you nots hear my desperate knocking?" A blue Oh asked while sobbing. "My core temperature could have been droppings too low! These clothings are not beings waterproof!"

"I'm sorry, I can't control it," Riley apologized in between sobbing and chewing.

They continued to cry until it stopped raining. Riley had eaten a whole bar and was half way through a second one before that happened.

"Oh, did Gratuity look weird to you just now?" Riley asked him.

"No, why do you asking?" Oh asked.

"While I was crying I saw her glowing blue. You were blue and glowing blue, but I've seen you change colors without glowing before," Riley explained.

"It's like you're a copy of Em Path," Tip commented. "You have like all of her powers."

"Well, I can't feel more than one emotion yet and I can only do it when my power is out of control, so it's more like a weaker version. I'm going to add 'Seeing colors based on emotions' to my list of weird things I can do," Riley told them.

"Okay, wells, now that we are calms. Tip, Riley, I am having good news, good news, bad news, and bad news," Oh told them.

"Give us bad, good, bad, good," Tip told him.

"Okay, I am not knowing how long it will take for me to fix the time-flux, we are in November of year 2016, we are in Pennsylvania with a Slushious that can't fly or drive yet, and there seems to be no other major damage to Slushious," Oh replied.

"Why is being in the year 2016 a few months after where Riley is from good?" Tip asked.

"We can easily find fuel for Slushious," Oh replied.

"Okay, well, can we help you with anything?" Tip asked.

"I do not believe so, but thankings you," Oh replied.

"Gratuity, could you help me learn to control my... powers?" Riley asked.

No matter how many times she tried to get it in her mind that she had superpowers she just couldn't believe it.

"Sure thing," Tip replied.

"Umm, would it being too much to ask that you burn things away from Slushious?" Oh asked, placing a protective hand over Slushious's wheel.

"Not a problem, we'll just go a little farther in the woods. Here's some other stuff by the way," Riley told him and handed him the bag.

She kept the chocolate bar and comic books as she and Tip got out of the car and walked into the woods.

~A few days later~

"You're nothing but a wimp! You'll never get the hang of it!" Tip yelled at Riley.

"Dang, you're getting the hang of it," Tip complimented Riley.

"I'm getting the hang of not turning colors or making things happen but I still can't actually control my powers," Riley said for lack of a better word.

She took another bite of the chocolate.

"Well, it's a good start, at least now you can go into town with me without causing trouble," Tip replied.

~Flashback to 4 days ago~

Riley and Tip were once again in town trying to avoid talking to anyone since Oh already warned them that just by telling Riley who they were, the timeline had been altered somehow.

He didn't really know how he just knew it happened.

"Wait, so Believer and Em Path don't end up together?" Riley asked with tears forming in her eyes.

Tip quickly made Riley's hat cover her face to color her blue skin. Tip's eyes started watering and a small cloud formed above the street.

"I know right? They made such a beautiful couple," Tip replied and started crying with her.

She sniffed and looked around to see other people crying.

"I'm sorry. I'm the one who broke your blender," someone said.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you! I'm a horrible friend!" Another apologized.

"I just miss him so much!" a girl cried.

Soon enough, almost everyone on the street was crying their eyes out and spilling their regrets while it began to rain. Through the tears Tip grabbed the piece of chocolate and stuffed it in Riley's mouth before dragging her away.

~2 Days After that~

Oh had given Tip the task to find a tool he needed to repair Slushious' wings. Riley was bored so Tip let her come along under the condition that she would keep the chocolate on hand.

A group of bigger kids were talking in front of the store's door.

"Excuse me, could you move? We need to go inside," Tip told them.

One of the kids scoffed and glared at her.

"You're excused, now beat it we're busy," he told her and turned away.

"Okay, first of all that's rude. Second of all, you're the ones who need to move," Tip replied defiantly.

One of the girls in the group rolled her eyes and got closer to her.

"Listen hear girly, do you know who you're talking to? That is Kevin Burgess. Yeah, Burgess, as in his family owns this town and if you want to keep living here I suggest you learn some respect," she spat.

"I'll give my respect to someone who earns it," Tip defied.

The girl glared at Tip and pushed her to the side walk.

"Hey! What's your problem?!" Riley asked and helped Tip up.

"You two are our problem," another kid replied.

Riley glared at the group while holding Tip up. Tip hissed and pulled her arm back from Riley's grip. There was a red mark on Tip's arm but Riley was too angry to notice.

"Aww, look, her face is red. Did we hurt your feelings? Are you going to cry?" They teased.

A trash can right behind them bursted into flames. They screamed and backed away. Tip quickly rummaged through her bag for Riley's chocolate bar.

"You should be nicer to people," Riley growled.

The bullies turned to look at her and screamed when some magazines inside the store became engulfed in flames. The store owner freaked out and ran for the fire extinguisher. The kids quickly ran off. Tip finally found the chocolate.

"Riley calm down! Say 'ah'!" Tip told her.

"I am calm-!"

Tip forced the chocolate into Riley's mouth before she could say anything else. She grabbed Riley's jacket and pulled her away from the store and toward the woods.

~Back to the Present~

"Let's just hope those kids aren't like the ones in tv shows that become obsessed when something supernatural happens to them. The last thing we need are stalkers," Tip told Riley.

"Ready for a trip into town?" Riley asked hopefully.

"Fine. But keep that chocolate in your pockets. We should also buy some perfume, the deodorant isn't helping much now," Tip told her.

Riley nodded and grabbed her stuff. The two walk out of the woods filling the silence with some small talk about what they needed to buy.

"So," Riley began and cleared her throat. "How's your arm?"

"You didn't hold it long enough to actually burn me, so it's just a little red now. It's nothing to worry about," Tip replied with a shrug.

"I'm sorry, Gratuity. This hasn't been easy for me but that doesn't excuse the fact that I hurt you," Riley apologized.

"Girl, first of all call me Tip. Second of all, of course it excuses it! It's not your fault you have these awesome powers," Tip responded.

Riley smiled, "Tip, huh? Cool."

"Let's celebrate that you're one step closer to being Em Path by walking around town. Maybe we can find something fun to do without Oh knowing," Tip told her.

"That sounds great!" Riley agreed and they both walked to the car where Oh was fixing the wings.

"Oh, Riley and I are going into town. We need more food," Tip told Oh.

"Very well, but you can not be takings too long or else-," Oh warned.

"We can cause a rift in the space-time continuum," Tip and Riley finished for him.

"Yes, that is being correct. Tip before you leaves I need to show you something," Oh told her.

"Okay, sure. Riley, why don't you go ahead and wait for me by the statue?" Tip suggested.

"Alright," Riley replied and walked ahead.

After a few minutes she made it to the end of the woods which marked the beginning of the park. She started to walk to the statue when she saw that no one else was around.

"Ooo! And it can go uphill here and there can be lots of snow around so we don't get hurt!" Riley heard a boy exclaim.

She stopped and looked around until she noticed a boy with a yellow glow around him running around to the side of the statue. His smile was wide and Riley could see and feel the happiness radiating from him as he pointed in different directions.

Riley backed up and hid behind a tree. An ice ramp formed and curved around the statue and mounds of snow appeared on the edges.

"This is going to be so much fun!" The boy exclaimed. "I'm going to go get my friends!"

He ran off and Riley stayed hidden as she continued to watch from afar. More ice and snow continued to form around the small park until it looked like it was a giant ice roller-coaster.

"There's no way that was him," Riley mumbled.
"How could he have done it without being right beside it?"

After a few minutes the boy came back with some friends who didn't look too thrilled. The boy told them something but Riley couldn't quite hear them. The friends seemed hesitant with a slight blue glow around then until something blue fell in their eyes and suddenly they glowed yellow as well.

They gasped and started to cheer. Each one grabbed a sled and climbed on top of the snowy contraption. They rode around at a speed impossible to achieve unless they were being pushed.

"My life just keeps getting weirder and weirder," Riley mumbled.

She noticed groups of kids approaching the boy and his friends. The friends all fell off the slide and into the mountains of soft snow. The kids that just arrived started talking to them.

The younger ones gasped and giggled, glowing yellow with excitement while the older ones surrounded by green light frowned in disbelief. Somehow a stray snowball hit a kid and a snowball fight ensued.

"Snowball fight!" The first boy yelled and everyone started to fight.

By that point Riley had enough of watching and wanted to join. She ran around and found a mountain of snow that made a wall big enough for her.

"Take that!"

"Big kids rule!"

"You're winning against children, congratulations! Do you want a cookie?"

Riley laughed and threw snowballs left and right having no side in the battle. She was distracted by a yellow glow coming from the statue. It made the silhouette of a person but she broke out of her trance when she saw a snowball flying by.

"Watch out!" Riley called and pulled a boy down into her wall before he could be hit.

"Thanks, I could have been a goner," the boy told her and she realized it was the boy from before.

"No problem, I'm Riley," she introduced herself.

"I'm Jamie. Hey, I haven't seen you before, are you from around here?" He asked.

"No, my friend and I are just here for a few days," Riley replied.

"Your accent. Where are you from?" Jamie wondered.

"Minnesota but I live in San Francisco now," Riley replied.

"Riley!" they heard a girl call her.

"Over here!" Riley replied standing up leaving herself open to enemy fire.

Tip saw them and ran to the safety of their make-shift fort.

"Oh told me that- Girl what happened to you?" she asked once she saw Riley's red, snow covered face.

"Snowball," was all Riley said.

"Hi, I'm Jamie," Jamie told her.

"Gratuity Tucci, but my friends call me Tip," the girl replied before looking at her friend and whispering something about something needing repair.

"That's not exactly what I wanted to hear. Wait, so we'll be here for two weeks?" Riley asked and Tip nodded.

"Well, since we're going to be here for a while why don't you show us around?" Riley asked Jamie.

"Sure! I have school tomorrow so we can meet up here at 3:30, is that okay?" Jamie asked.

"That works with us," Tip agreed.

"Yep!" Riley replied.

Soon enough everyone's parents called out for the kids to go back inside for dinner and the snowball fight ended. Jamie, Riley, and Tip came out of their fort and dusted themselves off.

"See you tomorrow," Riley called as they both walked off.

"Bye!" Jamie waved before turning back to the statue.

"What do you mean she saw you?" Jamie asked.

He turned back to look at Riley and Tip's retreating figures.

"So she didn't really see you. Maybe, she believes just not specifically in you? I could ask her about it tomorrow," Jamie replied.

After a quick second of silence, Jamie turned back to the statue.

"Hey! I'm great at being subtle! I'm not just going to ask her straight out, I'll work up to it," Jamie declared. "I want to know what she can see, too."
