Chapter 3: The Crash
Your POV:
Keith. Keith Kogane is at my window.
I opened the window as I started freaking out.
Keith. Keith Kogane is at my window.
I held a finger to my mouth while he climbed into my room. He looked at me and understood. I went outside of my room to see if anyone was in the hallway by my room. No one was there. I snuck back into my room quietly and closed the door. I turned around silently hoping that Keith wasn't there. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed.
Keith hadn't changed at all. He still wore his hair in a mullet. He still wore the same red jacket over the black shirt. He still wore the same red and white boots. He still wore the belt around his waist that held two pockets and a covered dagger on the back.
"What are you doing here Keith?" I practically whisper-shouted. I was still mad at him. I don't think that I would ever forgive him.
"Listen to me. I know we haven't talked for a while. [Name], I found Shiro," He said getting straight to the point.
"You, WHAT?" I shouted. Shit. I didn't mean to shout. My foster mom called from downstairs to see what was wrong. I called back saying that nothing was wrong and that I was just reading something disturbing on my computer. "You found Shiro? Where?" I said in a more hushed voice. Half of me believed it was true; however, the other half of me knew that Keith was kidding with me. It would be amazing if Shiro was alive.
"Remember how he went missing? And everyone thought he was dead? Well, this UFO is going to crash near the Garrison and I'm going to go check it out. It might be Shiro," He said propping himself up against my wall with his foot and back.
"But what if it isn't Shiro? What if it's Matt or Samuel or something or... someone else that wants to harm Earth? What are you going to do then?" I asked him. As much as I want it to be Shiro, I knew it might not be. In my years of hanging out with Keith, I learned to always think twice before diving into a situation.
"Look [Name], I know that it might not be Shiro. And I also know that you might not trust me after..." He paused. He knew what had happened between us before he went to the Garrison.
"Let's not talk about that. Also, don't call me [Name]. We aren't friends anymore. Call me [Last Name]. Are you going to check it out tonight?" I asked him, changing the subject. He wasn't welcome to call me that.
"Yes, I'm going to check it out! I just thought that you should be the one to know first," He turned to the window for his exit out of my room.
"Wait."–he paused and looked back at me–"I need to come with you," I moved over to my chair where I had put my [insert color/brand] jacket earlier. I swiftly put it on and tied my shoelaces.
"Great. I thought you would just let me go," He said as he rolled his eyes. "[Last Name], I'm not letting you come. This isn't an argument. You're probably going to slow me down. You also might get hur–"
"I don't care. I'm coming with you and you don't have a say in the matter," I interjected.
He paused and looked at me. It looked as if he was weighing the pros and cons of bringing me. It took him a little bit to respond. "Fine. Follow me,"
•••
I was on Keith's motorbike, riding through a desert. We were getting closer to the site where he said the UFO crashed. Eventually, when he thought he was close enough to the site, the motorbike slowed down and Keith parked it behind a rock. We both slid off the levitating bike. Keith got something–a bandana– from his pocket and put it on half of his face.
We had put three explosives at the edge of the camp and set them to blow up in five minutes.
"Damn. [Name], you're gonna need something to cover your face with so that no one takes a picture of you and identifies you," he said while he was searching for something that I could use.
"You're right...," I looked around and saw a piece of cloth on the ground. I walked over to it and picked it up. "Will this work?" I asked Keith, showing it to him.
"Yes. Now quickly put it on. We're running out of time," He said. As if on cue, three explosions went off across the compound to distract everyone at the site. I quickly put the piece of clothing on to cover the bottom half of my face. "Let's go," Keith said running over to the entrance. I quickly caught up with him.
As soon as we got close to the entrance, there were two guards flanking the entrance. Both of them had the same uniform, and they both looked pretty muscular. My brain was filled with ways that we could either distract them or fight them off.
"Stay back," Keith said right before he approached the guards. At first, I was surprised that he was walking right towards danger, but then... well, I was still shocked. In less than five seconds, Keith had the two guards knocked out and on the floor.
"C'mon," he said, holding the door open for me. I quickly moved from my hiding spot and went through the door.
"Where did you learn how to do that Kogane?" I asked him in awe. He didn't respond. All that he did was give me a look as if I was clueless. We were silent the whole way through the hallway. Eventually, when we reached the door, Keith said to stay back again. The door opened and he was off.
In less than 20 seconds, he had all three scientists in the room on the ground unconscious again. I ran up to the table in the middle of the room. The first face I saw was Shiro's. We both got closer to the table to make sure it was really him. Keith hoisted him up and put his arm around his shoulder. Then I heard the voice of my best friend: Lance.
"No. No, you– Nope. Nonononono. No, you don't. I'm saving...,"–He looked at me–" [NAME]?!"
