Chapter 10: Getting the Red Lion

Hey guys! This is going to be an extra long chapter, just letting you know. Plus, there's going to be some humor. And by some, I mean a lot.

Your POV:

"Let's go," Shiro said as we were heading towards the lions to execute his genius plan.

I was about to follow Shiro when someone grabbed my arm from behind me. "Let go of me," I told Keith as he let me go, "What do you want?"

"I need to talk to you quickly before we go," he answered as he motioned for me to follow him.

"But– Keith! I..." I turned around and saw everyone looking at Keith and me, "How much time do we have?" I asked Coran.

     "We have about two dobashes until we need to get going," Coran answered, looking at his clock. He must have seen that I was confused, so he answered in English. "It's 336 seconds in your time," {A/N: yes, I looked up how long a dobash was and how long it would be in human time measurements. I know, I'm a nerd}

"Okay, I'll be right back," I turned around and followed Keith. Keith started walking into the armory where I had gotten my armor. After Keith stopped and turned to me, I took the opportunity to speak first. "Okay, I may fucking hate you to the core, but I want to hear what you have to say,"

Keith waited for a few seconds before speaking. "I'm sorry I treated you like shit all those years ago. I shouldn't have said all of the things that I should," he paused as if he was choosing his next words carefully. "I was a fucking idiot back then and I didn't know how to not be an absolute asshole to people. You were the one person who I was somewhat nice too and actually treated me like I wasn't worthless. I don't know why I said those things that I did back then, and I know that it caused you even more pain with what you were going through.

"Again, I'm so sorry for acting like an asshole to you and to everyone else. I'm not asking you to forgive me because you don't have to; however, if you do eventually forgive me, I'm hoping that we can start over," Keith finished. He looked slightly flustered as if he had just delivered that speech in front of the whole universe.

I myself was speechless. I didn't know what to say after his big apology, I didn't know what to do, and most of all, I didn't know if I should forgive him. I knew that the others were waiting for us, so I needed to make my response quick.

"Keith, thank you for the apology. As for whether or not I should forgive you or not, I don't know. I need time to think about it," I responded, choosing my words carefully. "For now, let's get this mission over with so that we can get your lion, okay?"

"Okay. Let's go," Keith said. If he was upset, he was sure stoical about it.

We both walked back to the others. They looked at us with wonder, and it looked like they hadn't said anything to each other since we left. They were all silent and they were waiting for either me or Keith to say something.

Instead of me or Keith saying something, Shiro recognized that it was an awkward moment and decided to speak up. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go,"

•••

"Turning on the cloak now," Pidge said as he pulled a lever on his lion. Shiro, Keith, and I were also in his lion. {A/N: I know that Pidge is a girl, but now I have it is that you'll find out later. Just letting you guys know} We were currently executing Shiro's plan to get the Red Lion.

I still didn't know whether or not I should forgive Keith. His apology was sincere, as far as I could tell; however, I also knew that Keith had a temper, so he would probably do it again. But I had a temper as well. I also blew up on him on that day. Ugh. Why was life so complicated?!

We were slowly approaching the Galra ship. The closer we got to the ship, the more my hand tightened on my staff. Eventually, my hand ended up hurting so I had to loosen up my grip. Sure I was nervous, and sure I was worried someone would get injured, but of course, I wouldn't tell anyone my worries. I was better than that. I learned a long time ago that I shouldn't tell anyone my insecurities just so that they could tear me apart with them.

My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a sudden crash. Pidge had blown a hole into the Galra ship so that we could get in. Pidge quickly flew the lion into the ship. {A/N: I could make an inappropriate joke here, but I want to keep my readers.} As soon as the lion was inside, we ran out of Green and started running towards a hallway.

We ran for a while in the hallway before I stopped and finally decided to ask Keith something. "So Lance said that you would feel some sort of... 'connection' when you were close to the Red Lion. Do you feel anything?"

Keith thought for a moment as the others both stopped. "No, not really,"

Shiro spoke next. "Maybe we're heading the wrong way. We need to hurry though, we can't be here for long," We started heading the other direction. After a while, I asked Keith again.

     "No. I..." Keith trailed off.

"This is taking so fucking long and I'm exhausted," I said without even considering the fact that Shiro was right next to me.

     "Language [Name]," Shiro said sternly. {A/N: I had to}

Okay, Dad. I thought to myself. He was like that one dad friend, but he wasn't at all qualified to be the dad friend.

"Sorry, Shiro," I mumbled. I didn't know what to say after I just got embarrassed.

"Yeah [Name], watch your language," Keith mocked. I hit Keith with my staff. Keith was about to say something when Shiro spoke, stopping our argument.

"Guys, I know that you somewhat hate each other, but we have a mission. Plus, there's a patrol coming towards us." Shiro said as he turned around and got into a fighting position. Pidge, Keith, and I got into ours as well. We turned on our shields and prepared for enemy fire.

•••

"That was a close one," Pidge said as he stepped over a century that was sprawled on the ground. "Anyways, we need to get going. We have a limited time before we need to head out with the Red Lion. Lance and Hunk can only stall for so long,"

"Pidge is right, we need to get going," Shiro said.

All of the sudden, Pidge blurted something out. "WAIT!!"

We all turned to him. "What if there are prisoners on this ship? Shiro, you said earlier that this was the ship that held you right? Maybe the other members of your crew are being held here as well!"

Keith and I looked at each other, probably both thinking the same thing: We needed to get going.  All of the detours had already cost us enough time. As Pidge said earlier, Lance and Hunk couldn't stall forever.

"Pidge, as much as I would love for that to happen, we need to go find Keith's lion and get back to Arus," Shiro said carefully.

"You... you don't understand," Pidge said. "Commander Holt is my father."

That's when it all clicked. Samuel Holt once told me that he had a son and a daughter when we met. But not another son. Pidge was a girl who was trying to hide it. It all made sense. I figured that Shiro probably was getting it as well. I figured for Pidge's sake, I should keep it a secret.

It looked like Shiro somewhat got it. "Keith and [Name], you guys need to go find the Red Lion. Pidge and I will go and see if we can find any prisoners,"

     "But–" Keith started.

"The only butt that you're going to find is the Red Lion's," Shiro said hurriedly. "Now Keith, remember this: Patience yields focus,"

Keith nodded and we were off.

•••

Keith groaned and hit the wall. "This is going to take fucking forever!"

"Keith, calm down. Remember what Shiro said?" I asked him as I put a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. We had

"Patience yields focus. I get that, I just...," Keith trailed off.

"Keith, I know that I'm probably not the best at giving advice about how to get your life back together, I mean, look at me."–he chuckled at that–"But my point is that you should just listen to me. How about you close your eyes and try to feel something. Like a connection,"

"Fine," Keith closed his eyes and tried to concentrate. After a few seconds, he spoke. "Gotcha, follow me [Name]."

"Woo! Now we're in the game!" I said, enjoying the sudden change of excitement. Keith chuckled at me and we started running. Keith led the way. We took a few sudden turns, but we eventually made it there. We entered a huge room that held the Red Lion.

"Bingo," Keith said as he touched his hand to the shield.

"I'm going to stand watch," I said as I ran over to the entrance.

"Let's get out of here, open up," Keith said as he waited for the Red Lion to lower its shield.

"That's what he said," I told Keith, but he was clearly not interested in my sense of humor.

"Shut up [Name]. Hey, lion, it's me, Keith, your buddy." Keith was clearly getting agitated. "It's me! Keith, your– I AM YOUR PALADIN!"

I saw soldiers coming our way. "KEITH! WE GOT INCOMING! Now stop arguing with your lion and hurry up and bond already!"

"This stupid lion! I'm bonding with you!" Keith yelled towards Red as he turned around. We both turned our shields on and prepared to fight. While Keith had an awesome sword, I only had a metal staff. I guess it was time that I started trying out some of its cool tricks.

"I'll try to hold them off while you try to 'bond' with your lion!" I said as I got my staff through one of the robots. I saw Keith turn around and look at a control panel. "[Name, hold on! I'm going to open the airlock!"

"You're going to fucking do WHAT?" I yelled at Keith as I looked for something to hold onto. I quickly grabbed the control panel next to Keith.

"Just shut up and trust me!"Keith said as he pushed the button and held on. The robots flew out into space while we were holding on for our lives. Our grips were quickly loosening and the lion was doing nothing about it.

"Shit!" Keith yelled as he was about to slide into space.

"Grab my leg!" I told Keith as he slipped farther down. He grabbed onto my leg, only for my arms to get hit by shrapnel and me losing my grip.

"Fuck!" I yelled as we fell into space. Luckily, our helmets automatically closed and we were provided with free air. We yelled as we got farther out into space. Keith and I held onto each other as we fell.

"Keith, are you oka–" I was interrupted by the Red Lion coming out and saving us.

"Oh thank the fucking Lord!" Keith said as Red swallowed us up. Once we were inside, we both ran up to the cockpit and Keith sat down.

"Good kitty, let's roll," Keith said as he activated the control platform.

"Good job Keith," I told him, patting him on the back.
