Tears pour out of my eyes as I try to regain consciousness. I drift in and out of reality, not believing the sight in front of me. "JEFF, I SWEAR TO GOD I WON'T LET YOU DIE!"

I stumble back into the house with Kyle in my arms, laying him down to close the door. I pick him back up, making it down the stairs to the couch. I wish I had fire powers. I could warm him up! I sob intensely; I've already lost my parents and family. I can't lose the only person I have left in my life. I try hugging him to warm him up but no luck rises. I just decide to call my best friend, Aria, to hopefully explain what happened and she can warm him up.

When she arrives, I try to explain what happened but she doesn't believe me. "Please, Ari, just warm him up! He doesn't have a heartbeat."

"Okay, but this is crazy." She places her hands on his heart as a red glow forces through her fingers into Jeff. The light grows bigger and I bit my nails in fear of losing him. When the glowing stops and she backs up, I speak. "D-did it work?"

"I don't know. I'm not a professional, Mia. You should have called someone who could hav-"

Jeff moves sporadically as he coughs intensely. My eyes light up in happiness. "Jeff?" I walk up to him, pulling him into a hug immediately. "I'm so sorry. I will never make you do that again!"

"Hey hey hey, Mia, I'm just glad you're okay. I told you I'd never leave you." he says, hugging me back harder than ever.

I smile, releasing him, staring into his eyes. "I need to go back."

He looks at me, stunned. "What? No, Mia." He stands up, walking away. I follow. "I almost die-"

"I interrupt him. "Not you, Jeff, me. I need to go back. It was calling to me and I need to know why I'm not affected by the cold winter like normal fire starters are." I pace back and forth, looking over to Aria, still here on our chair. "Don't you think it's weird that we were told we would die if we touched anything cold? Or the fact that I'm almost 17 and still can't make one single ball of fire TO SAVE MY LIFE?"

I look at Jeff, hoping for an answer, but nothing comes. I see the gears moving inside his head as if hes thinking really hard. "Okay."

"What?" I ask, curiously.

He walks up to me and hugs me for the billionth time today. "I said, 'okay' as in I agree that you should go if you need to. But I still hate that I can't be there with you." I stare at him, even more confused. "I don't want to lose my sister."

I laugh, not meaning to. "That's funny, I said that not too long ago about you."

"ATTENTION! CITIZENS OF FIRELAND! THE PESHTIGO TRIBE HAS INVADED THE WALL AND IS NOW HEADED INTO TOWN. PLEASE TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT GO OUTSIDE FOR ANY REASON. THIS IS NOT A TEST."

"Jeff," I turn to him, half in tears. "Is this because of me?"

He shakes his head. "No. We were there for no more than a few minutes."

"But-"

"All I know, Mia, is that of you can survive in there" he points upstairs. "then you need to go there to be safe. You're safer there than here if the Peshtigos are actually here."

"But what about you, Jeff?" I ask, fully crying now.

"Please," he says. "Don't worry about me. I can take care of myself. If they find out you can't control fire, they'll kill you, Amilia."

I nod, trying to hold in the tears, but failing miserably. He leads me upstairs to the third floor and Aria follows. He pulls me into a bear hug and kisses my forehead. "I love you, Mia. I will find you again. Soon. Now be safe." He opens the icy door but it doesn't budge.

I giggle and wipe my eyes, reaching for the knob, turning it with ease. "I love you too, Jeff. I'll find you too." I enter the winter wonderland again, feeling at home instantly. I turn sound to see both Aria and Jeff freezing from the cold, curious to see me okay. I wave at them and see the door close, leaving me alone and in a world I don't know.

How could things get any worse?
