Secret Message
"One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others."

Anna
I sat in the armchair in my room, legs pulled up to my chest. The position hurt my wrecked body, but it was the only way I found some comfort from the echoes of Elsa's panicked screams in my head. It was that or pacing, but my legs were too weak to move more than a few steps.
Downstairs, I could hear the muffled voices of the Stark alphas and my parents. Unfortunately, I couldn't make anything out through the soundproof walls and doors.
Elsa, where are you? I asked desperately, rubbing my head, wincing as pain shot through my skull.
"Anna?" Dom's voice floated from my doorway, and I hurriedly looked up. I regretted it immediately, my world spinning. Even with my supernatural healing abilities, it'd take at least all day for this concussion and headache to resolve. "How are you feeling?"
"Like shit," I replied, noticing Caleb, Hunter, and Lilly standing behind him once my vision steadied. "I'm alive, though, thanks to you. Again. I owe you."
"You owe me nothing. My packmate started this. I am so sorry Callie did this, Anna. I don't know why, but-"
"She thought I was Elsa and accused me of stealing her fiancé. When I told her I was Anna, she wanted to take the most precious thing from Elsa the way Elsa did to her, so she attacked me," I explained. Carefully, I stood up, not wanting to appear as weak as I felt. "She was drunk and upset. If she'd been sober, I don't think this would've happened."
"But it did," Hunter said. "You shouldn't have been out by yourself."
"I got claustrophobic. I didn't have El-" I caught myself- "I didn't have someone to talk to who would understand. Not nearby, at least."
"You always have us," Caleb replied, bristling.
Not when it comes to this. I thought sadly, my eyes traveling to Dom. He bounced his fist nervously against my dresser, and I noticed a small piece of paper suddenly appear underneath it, one that hadn't been there before.
"Callie is going to be punished accordingly. I speak for myself and my pack when I say we don't want to start a war with you. There are more pressing matters at hand. If there's anything else I can do, please, let me know. I feel responsible for this."
"It's not your fault," I said gently. "You couldn't have known."
"I could've talked to her, gotten her to open up about everything on her mind." Dom chuckled humorlessly. "After all, she and I are engaged now."
"What?!" I exclaimed, my voice rising a few octaves.
"Yeah, neither of us are happy about it either," Dom admitted, shoving his hands in his pocket. "Anyway, I just wanted to see in person that you were doing okay. Lilly and I will leave you be now. Stay safe, Supergirl."
Winking at me, Dom left. Lilly studied me curiously before following him. I limped over to my brothers, placing my hand over the piece of paper to avoid them noticing it. Caleb and Hunter reached out to steady me when I swayed on my feet, but I waved them away. "I'm okay; I just want to move. I'm tired of sitting."
"The color drained out of your face," Hunter said. "We thought you might pass out. Do you need help getting back to the chair?"
I shook my head but smiled appreciatively at them. I observed a few tics in Caleb's jaw, prompting me to ask, "What's wrong?"
"Elsa," he said softly, his voice cracking ever so slightly. "Is she hurt? Is she alive?"
I bit my lip in an attempt to stop the tears welling in my eyes, a fruitless endeavor. "I don't know. I haven't been able to reach her since she left, and suddenly, she screamed out for me. The same way I screamed for her when I thought I was dying. Now it's-" my voice hitched- "it's just silence. I can't reach her anymore, and I'm terrified."
Caleb and Hunter pulled me into a hug, and I sank into them, sobbing my heart out. Soon, Ember's perfume wafted in the room, and I felt her join the hug. For a few minutes, the four of us took comfort in each other as we feared the worst for our youngest sibling. For all I knew, Elsa was dead. Or maybe she was alive but suffering severely with no chance of help or rescuing. The thought made bile rise in my throat.
"Do you want us to stay with you?" Ember inquired, finally breaking the silence. "We will."
"No, I think-" a hiccup interrupted my sentence- "I think I want to be alone for a bit."
Hunter kissed me on the head. "Call us if you need anything, okay?"
I nodded and shuffled back to my chair. My siblings waited until I safely sat down before leaving. The moment the door shut, I unfolded the piece of paper Dom subtly dropped on my dresser. My hands trembled at the words: Elsa's in trouble. Spencer needs help. Call me when ready to leave. I'll have my bag packed.
Despite the aching, screaming wounds and muscles, I forced myself out of my chair, determination and stubbornness settling in. Nothing would stop me from helping my twin. Whatever was blocking me from talking to her could go to hell, and I'd be the one to send them there.
Slowly, I packed a duffel bag, keeping it hidden in my closet in case any of my family decided to drop in. Over the next few hours, I filled the bag with any possible necessities, my mind preoccupied with thoughts of Elsa. I continued reaching out to her but never received any response. Every time this happened, any doubts I had about joining Dom would disappear.
Finally, at eleven-thirty at night, I called Dom. He picked up on the first ring, his voice tinged with relief. "Hey, you got my message."
"I did," I said. "I'm ready whenever you are."
