The Fall
"Hey, wake up! Wake up!" "Huh?" A teenage girl with (H/c) hair and (E/c) eyes opened her eyes and looked around. She looked beside her to see her younger sister, Frisk. "Frisk?" She rubbed her eyes. "Where are we?" She asked. Frisk looked around the small area they were in. "I don't know." She replied. The older sister huffed, then looked up. "Did... did we fall?" She asked, her eyes widening when she noticed how far down they were. She didn't remember falling.
The last thing she remembered was playing with her sister on the mountain. Frisk shrugged, and the other girl sighed. "Well, it seems there's only one way to get out. So, let's go." Frisk nodded, and took her sister's hand, and the two entered a dark room with a light shining on a single patch of grass. The older girl raised an eyebrow. Suddenly to their surprise, a flower popped out from under the patch of grass. (Y/n) nearly jumped back, grabbing Frisk's arm in surprise.
"Howdy! I'm Flowey. Flowey the flower." He chirped. "How original." (Y/n) mumbled. The flower seemed to ignore her comment. "Hmm. You two are new to the underground, aren't cha? Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here. I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go." Suddenly two red hearts showed up. "Hearts?" (Y/n) asked curiously. "Actually, these are your souls, the very culmination of your beings.
Your souls start off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV." Flowey said. "What does that mean?" Frisk asked. "Why love, of course! You want some love, don't you?" Frisk grinned and nodded, but (Y/n) had a bad feeling. "Don't worry. I'll share some with you." Flowey winked, then petals began to appear around him. "Down here, love is shared through little white friendliness pellets. Are you ready? Move around, get as many as you can." Flowey said. "Wait, don't-" (Y/n) called out. Too late. The pellets hit both of their souls. And (Y/n) winced in pain, glaring at the flower despite her fear, and Frisk had stood behind her.
"You idiots! In this world, it's kill or be killed! Why would anyone pass up an opportunity like this?" Multiple pellets surrounded them. "DIE!" The pellets drew closer, but then their injuries suddenly healed, and the flower flew back as a fireball hit him. A tall goat-like woman with snow-white fur and small horns walked up. "Oh, what a terrible creature, torturing such poor, innocent youths..." she frowned. ""No need for fear now, my children. I am Toriel. Caretaker of the Ruins. Come, I shall guide you through the catacombs." (Y/n) and Frisk share a glance, wondering if they should trust her, especially after what happened with Flowey, but chose to trust her for the time being and followed her. "This way." The lady said before she walked away. The two sisters followed her out of the room. "What's this?" (Y/n) asked as she saw a tiny glowing star. She went up and touched it. "The shadow of the ruins looms above,
filling you with determination." A voice said. (Y/n) and Frisk both followed her to another room. "Welcome to your new home innocent ones. Allow me to educate you both in the operating of the ruins." She then stepped on some blocks and pulled a lever. "Do we have to do that too?" (Y/n) asked. "The ruins are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and door keys. One most solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourselves to the sight of them." Toriel said. They glanced around the room. "Come my children, I shall guide you through the ruins."
"To make progress here you will need to trigger several switches. Do not worry, I have labeled the ones that you need to flip." She said. (Y/n) went to read the next sign. "Stay on the path. Got it." (Y/n) and Frisk walked across the small bridge. (Y/n) looked and saw the yellow arrows pointing to a switch. "She labeled them all right." She said. She went to flip the switch. "I'll get the next one, (Y/n)." Frisk said as she went to flip the next one. "Splendid! I am proud of you, little ones. Let us move to the next room." She said before walking away. "Thank you, Toriel." (Y/n) said as they followed her. "As humans living in the underground, monsters may attack.
"You both will need to be prepared for this situation. However, worry not. The process is simple. When you encounter a monster you will enter a fight. While you are in a fight, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time, I will come to resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy." Toriel said as she walked in front of an entrance to another room. "We have to talk in battle?" (Y/n) asked as she and Frisk walked over to it. "Hi there, dummy." Frisk said. It doesn't seem much for conversation.
"Ah, very good! You are very good." Toriel said. Then they went into the next room. "There is another puzzle in this room. I wonder if either of you can solve it." Toriel said. The two of them followed her down the hallway. "Okay." Frisk said with uncertainty. (Y/n) gasped as a frog creature appeared in front of them. "Hi there, frog. You look nice today." Frisk said. Froggit didn't understand what she said, but was flattered anyway. Suddenly Toriel showed up beside the frog. "Hello, Toriel." (Y/n) said awkwardly, not sure why she was glaring at what seemed like an innocent little frog. The frog quickly hopped away.
(Y/n) then read read the sign. "The western room is the eastern room's blueprint." She said. She looked at Frisk in confusion. "Wha?" Frisk giggled at her dumbfounded state. "Oh." She said as she saw spikes up ahead on the floor. Toriel turns around. "This is the puzzle. But, here. Take my hand for a moment." (Y/n) and Frisk grabbed her hand as she led them through the puzzle. "Oh cool." (Y/n) said nervously as she and Frisk followed Toriel. "This is hard to follow." They safely got to the other side. "Please don't make us do that again." (Y/n) said. "Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now." Toriel said, and (Y/n) sighed with relief.
She and Frisk follow her again. "You have done excellently thus far my children. However, I have a difficult request to ask of you two. I would like you both to walk to the end of the room by yourselves. Forgive me for this." (Y/n)'s eyes widened and she tensed. She wasn't going to betray them like the flower, right? (Y/n) looked and saw how tense Frisk was and grabbed her right hand. She looked at her and she smiled. "Don't worry, sis. If anything bad happens, I'll protect you." She said.
Frisk smiled at her and the two of them walked down the long hallway that felt like it went on forever, until finally stopping by a pillar. Once they got to the end, Toriel came out. "Greetings, my children. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the whole time. Thank you for trusting me. However, there was an important reason for this exercise. To test your independence. I must attend to some business, and you two must stay together. Please remain here. It's dangerous to explore by yourselves. I have an idea. I will give you each a cellphone." Toriel said, handing them both one. (Y/n) looked at hers; it looked really old. Would it still even work?
"If either of you have a need for anything just call. Be good, all right?" Toriel said. Then she walked away. (Y/n) opened the phone and Frisk opened hers, then called her. "Frisk? What're you-" she signaled for her to be quiet. "This is Toriel." "Hello, mom!" Frisk said cheerfully, surprising (Y/n), then she chuckled. "Huh? Did you just call me mom?" She asked. "Well, I suppose, would that make you happy? To call me "mother?" Well then, call me whatever you like!" She then hung up. "Very funny, Frisk." (Y/n) said, and Frisk giggled. "She does act very motherly though." Frisk said. They walked into another room. Suddenly the phone rang. "Hello? This is Toriel. You have not left the room have you?"There are a few puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try and solve them yourselves. Be good, alright?" She asked before hanging up.
In the next room they saw more patches of grass, and a single Froggit. "That thing won't attack us if we go near it, will it?" (Y/n) asked warily. Frisk shrugged, then walked into another room. (Y/n) followed, and they were in a small room with a pedestal. On top of it was what looked like candy. Frisk walked over and took two of them. (Y/n) doing the same, then following Frisk back into the room with the frog. That's when she noticed the star. Wait, how had she not noticed it before? She stepped closer to it and touched it. 'Playfully crinkling through the leaves fills you with determination.' There's that voice again. "(Y/n)? Are you okay?" Frisk asked. She snapped out of it. "Uh yeah, don't worry, I'm fine, sis." She smiled at her, and she smiled back. "Hey (Y/n)?" "Yeah sis?" "How do you think she'd react if I flirted with her?" Frisk gave her a mischievous smile, and (Y/n) blinked. "Flirt?" Frisk called Toriel again.
"Are you a parking ticket? Because you've got "FINE" written all over you!" Frisk said, and (Y/n) rolled her eyes at her ridiculous pick up line. "Huh? Oh, heh, heh... ha! Ha! Ha! How adorable. I could pinch your check. You can certainly find better than old woman like me." Toriel said. "Aw, don't put yourself down like that, Toriel." Frisk said, then hung up. "Now what?" (Y/n) asked. "We keep exploring." Frisk said. "But, Toriel said-" "we can always come back. She'll never know."
Frisk said, and (Y/n) sighed. "Okay." Frisk suddenly yelped, and (Y/n) quickly turned to see what she saw. Another strange creature. It looked like a ghost, with wings, and two drooping antennas. "Um, hello?" Frisk waved at it, but it stayed there, staring at them. "Are you okay little guy?" (Y/n) asked. Halfway through her first word, Whimsun bursts into tears and runs away. (Y/n) blinked. "Well that happened." Soon the frog spoke up. "Pardon me, humans." It spoke. "I have some advice for you about battling monsters."
They walk up to him.
"If you ACT a certain way or FIGHT until you almost defeat them, they may not want to battle you anymore. If a monster does not want to fight you, please..." they pleaded, hope in their eyes they'd follow the advice. "Show some MERCY, humans." (Y/n) gave a smile and a thumbs up. "You got it." (Y/n) and Frisk walked into the next room to see another puzzle. "Great." (Y/n) said sarcastically. "Don't worry, I'm sure we can figure this out." Frisk then went to step on one of the squares and fell through. (Y/n) gasped and quickly ran over. "Frisk!" She shouted. "I'm okay!" She should. Frisk came out the other side. "Oh. I see." (Y/n) fell through and came out the other side as well. Toriel then called them back again once they reached the next room. "Hello. This is Toriel.
For no reason in particular which do you two prefer? Cinnamon or butterscotch?" She asked. They both looked at each other. "I prefer cinnamon." (Y/n) said. "Me too!" Frisk chirped. "Oh, I see. Thank you very much." Then she hung up. Frisk looked at (Y/n) in confusion and she shrugged. "Maybe she's making us a cake or something." She said. "Ooh! That would be awesome!" Frisk said. (Y/n) chuckled. She heard the phone ringing again and picked it up to answer it. "Hello. This is Toriel. You do not DISLIKE butterscotch do you? I know what your preference is but... would you turn up your nose if you found it on your plate?" She asked. "No, Toriel, we done mind butterscotch. Right sis?" (Y/n) asked. She shook her head. "Not at all." She said. "Right, right. I understand. Thank you two for being patient by the way." Then she hung up. "No problem, Tori." (Y/n) said. "Tori?" Frisk asked. "Yeah. I give my friends nicknames, remember?" (Y/n) asked. "Oh, right." Frisk said. Frisk then pushed the rock in the room and the spikes disappeared, letting the sisters through. (Y/n) and Frisk soon came to a room with a ghost blocking the way.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz... zzzzzzzzzz... are they gone yet? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..." This ghost keeps saying 'z' out loud repeatedly, pretending to sleep. (Y/n) moved it slightly, and it woke up, then blocked their way. Suddenly teardrops came through and (Y/n) and Frisk quickly moved their souls away from the tears as best as they could, but got hit a few times. Frisk cheered him on and smiled at him. "Heh." "Really not feeling up to it right now, sorry." (Y/n) cheered him on along with Frisk again, and told him a funny pun. "What's the worst thing about throwing a party in space?" She asked. "You have to plan it!" She said. Frisk raised an eyebrow. "Really?" (Y/n) shrugged, "hey, it was all I could think of at the moment." (Y/n) and Frisk dodged more of his tears. Frisk cheered him on one last time. Then his tears went upwards instead of downwards and formed a hat on his head.
"I usually come to the RUINS because there's nobody around... but today i met somebody nice... oh, i'm rambling again i'll get out of your way." Then he disappeared. After figuring out a few more puzzles and sparing a few more monsters, (Y/n) and Frisk found a giant purple house. "Oh dear, that took longer than I thought it would!" They heard Toriel's voice and she quickly ran over. "How did you get here my children? Are you two hurt?" She asked, noticing some of the marks on their skin. "There there, I will heal you. I should not have left you alone for so long. It was irresponsible for me to surprise you like this." She said.
She then realized she gave it away. "Err, well I suppose I cannot hide it any longer. Come, small ones." She then walked inside her house. (Y/n) and Frisk ran after her. Then (Y/n) stopped when she saw the shiny star on the left and ran toward it. Frisk stopped and turned to her. "Sis? Aren't you coming?" She asked. "Yeah, just a minute!" She touched the star and heard a voice in her head. "Seeing such a cute tiny house in the RUINS gives you determination." "Okay..." She said quietly. Frisk gave her a weird look as she joined her and the two walked inside. "Do you smell that? Surprise! It is a butterscotch cinnamon pie! I thought we might celebrate your arrival! I want you both to have a nice time living here. So I will hold off on snail pie for tonight." (Y/n) and Frisk gave each other a disgusted look at the sound of snail pie. "Here, I have another surprise for you two."
Frisk and (Y/n) followed her into the hallway and stopped at a door. "This is it. A room for you to share. I hope you like it." She rubbed them both on the head. She then sniffed the air and her eyes widened. "Is something burning? Make yourselves at home!" She quickly ran off. (Y/n) and Frisk shared a knowing look. "I think she's expecting us to stay here. She is really sweet and all, but..." (Y/n) began. "I know. We can't stay." Frisk frowned a little. "But what should we say? Saying this might break her heart." (Y/n) frowned too. "Let's just look inside. We can think about it later." Frisk said. (Y/n) nodded and opened the door. It was a red themed room. With one bed on the right and another on the left. (I know there was only one bed in the room but just pretend) Frisk yawned.
"Tried, sis?" (Y/n) asked. She nodded and got in bed. "Go ahead and sleep." (Y/n) said. "What about you?" Frisk asked. "I'll be fine, just get some rest." She said. "Okay." Frisk then felt her eyes closing and drifted off to sleep. "Hey, Frisk." She felt someone poke her softly and she groaned and slowly opened her eyes to see her sister. "(Y/n)?" She asked. "You ready to go?" She asked. "Yeah." Frisk got out of bed. "Want some pie?" (Y/n) asked as he handed Frisk a piece. "Sure." Frisk took a bite. It was delicious.
"This is really good." She said. "I know, right?" (Y/n) asked. She put the rest in her bag. (Y/n) and Frisk then went to talk to Toriel who was sitting in her chair reading. "Up already I see? Um, I want you to know how glad I am to have you two here. There are so many old books I want to share. I want to show you my favorite bug hunting spot. I've also prepared a curriculum for your education! This may come as a surprise to both of you, but I have always wanted to be a teacher. Actually, perhaps that isn't very surprising. STILL, I am glad to have you both living here. Oh, did you want something? What is it?" She asked. (Y/n) and Frisk frown as they look at each other then back at her. "When can we go home?" (Y/n) asked.
They saw her face sadden and they felt their hearts break. "What? This... this IS your home now. Um... would you like to hear about this book I am reading? It is called "72 uses for snails" how about it?" She asked. "Toriel, how can we exit the RUINS?" (Y/n) asked. She paused for a long time. "I have to do something. Stay here." Then she quickly ran off. (Y/n) and Frisk quickly followed her down the stairs and into a dark purple hallway. "You two wish to know how to return "home" do you not? Ahead of us lies the exit of the RUINS. A one way exit to the underground. I am going to destroy it." (Y/n) and Frisk both shared a panicked look. If she destroyed the exit then... neither of them would be able to go home. "No one will ever be able to leave again.
Now be good children and go upstairs." Then she walked away. (Y/n) and Frisk ran after her. "Every human that falls down here meets the same fate. I have seen it again and again. They come, they leave, they die. You naive children. If you leave the RUINS, they... ASGORE, will kill you. I am only protecting you. Do you understand? Go to your room." Instead, they both followed her again. "Do not try to stop me. This is your final warning." They followed her to the room where they saw the door. "You both want to leave so badly? Hmph. You are just like the others. There is only one solution to this." Their eyes widened. "Prove yourselves. Prove to me that you are strong enough to survive!" She then blocks the way. (Y/n) and Frisk quickly tried to dodge the fireballs coming toward their red souls. (Y/n) and Frisk decided to not to fight back, trying their best to avoid the fireballs she sent toward them. Soon their plan was beginning to work. " ................. " Toriel is acting aloof.
" ........................... ? "... What are you doing?" Toriel takes a deep breath. "Attack or run away!" Spare. "What are you proving this way...?" "Fight me or leave!" Toriel looks through them. "I know you want to go home, but... " "But please... go back upstairs." "I promise I will take good care of you here." "I know we don't have much, but..." "We can all have a good life here, together." "Why are you making this so difficult?" Her face saddened with each word. "Please, go upstairs."
She looked down. ".........." "Ahahaha..." "Pathetic, is it not?" "I can't even save a single child." " .... " She fell silent again, her fake smile vanishing. "... No, I understand." She went back to looking at them. "You two would just be unhappy being trapped down here. The RUINS... are very small once you get used to them. It would be wrong for you to live in a place like this. My expectations, my loneliness, my fear..." "For you, my children I will put them aside." Then the battle ended and (Y/n) and Frisk sighed in relief. "If you truly wish to leave the RUINS, I will not stop you. However, if you leave..." She turned to face you "Please do not come back, I hope you understand." She kneeled down and hugged them. They struggled not to cry as they hugged her back.
Then she stood up and walked toward the hallway. She turned back and gave them a smile, then walked away. Frisk stood still for a few moments. "Frisk, are you okay?" (Y/n) asked. "Yeah. Let's go." She said. (Y/n) nodded, and the two walked down the hallway and entered a dark room. (Y/n) scowled once she saw the familiar weed from earlier. "Clever. Verrrryyy clever. You think you're really smart, don't you?" Flowey asked. "Yeah, I mean, we're certainly more clever than you." (Y/n) said. Flowey glared at her and Frisk snickered. "Shut up you annoying little girl." Flowey snapped and her and she glared at him. "Her name is (Y/n)." Frisk said. Flowey scoffed. "Whatever. In this world, it's kill or be killed. So you were able to play by your own rules.
You spared the life of a single person. Hee hee hee..." Flowey was starting to creep them out a little. "Yeah. So what?" Frisk asked. "I bet you feel really great. You didn't kill anybody this time." Flowey went on. "This time?" (Y/n) asked. She had no idea what he was talking about. "But what will you do if you meet a relentless killer? You'll die and you'll die and you'll die. Until you tire of trying. What will you do then? Will you kill out of frustration? Or will you give up entirely on this world... ...and let ME inherit the power to control it?" He asked. "Never!" (Y/n) said. "I am the prince of this world's future. Don't worry, my little monarchs, my plan isn't regicide. This is SO much more interesting." Flowey then laughed like a psychopath, before disappearing under the ground. (Y/n) huffed. "Let's go." Frisk nodded, and the two left the RUINS.
