-Chapter Twenty-Six-
Ding dong!
Chara hurried to the door for the umpteenth time with a candy filled bowl in hand. Opening the door, she smiled down at the little boy at the door.
"Boo! Twick or tweat!"
Chara giggled and dropped a candy bar in his bag. He thanked her and skipped off.
Frisk walked up behind her,"Busy night?"
"Of course. Kinda sad though."
"Why?"
"They're taking all my chocolate. I could just turn the porch light off and we could have them all to ourself."
"Tempting, but I'll have to pass. Even you couldn't eat all that chocolate."
"Try me."
Frisk rolled her eyes,"Okay, you do that and I'll be watching."
"You're no fun."
Frisk just smirked and walked off. Asriel peeked from around the corner.
"Are they gone?"
"Yep. Coast is clear."
He smiled and took a candy bar. Earlier that night he had answered the door to a little girl and her mom. The kid had said that Asriel had a cool costume. He had blushed awkwardly while the parent, clearly embarrassed, had hurried away. That was when they had decided that just Chara and Frisk would answer the door.
Toriel and Asgore had taken the twins trick or treating, and Papyrus had insisted that he take part in the festivities. Speaking of the twins, they were both crawling around and getting in all sorts trouble. They had already lost one vase, several full cups of drinks, and Toriel's sanity to their little hands. Almost every day she ran herself to the point of exhaustion trying to keep her younger children from hurting themselves.
Ding dong!
Chara opened the door as Asriel scurried off. A small boy, about six, and an older girl who looked to be ten. The boy had dark brown hair and bright hazel eyes.
So familiar.
She snapped out of her trance and smiled at the girl. The boy looked up at her, but his gaze was blank.
The girl grabbed his shoulder,"Glen, you're doing it again. I'm sorry, he's blind. He's trying to gather information. It's been a hectic night."
"I'm sorry." Chara managed to choke out, handing them their candy. Shutting the door, she leaned against the wall. She squeezed her eyes closed, trying to close off the memories.
I can't. Don't bring them back. Please! Not again! It's not him! It will never be him!
She breathed deeply, shaking her head. Trying so hard to shut the memories back in the box. But they were strong, and they crashed over her like a wave.
"Char! Char smile!"
Chara grinned down at him from her perch on the tree. He smiled back and toddled to a shaded area right under her. She sat down, one leg dangling off the branch. She studied her little brother as he pulled at the ground.
He was three years old. A small boy with dark hair and light hazel eyes. The little gray shirt he always wore, and the tattered blue blanket he carried everywhere. A wind picked up, blowing his hair around and making him giggle.
"Char! Do the voice thingy!"
"Okay." Chara lowered her voice,"Greetings, small one. What would you like to ask toady?"
"Um, what's your favorite color?"
"Ah! Of all things to ask, you ask the hardest question. It is far too difficult to choose just one favorite color when there are so many."
"You lie! I know Chara's favorite color! It's green!"
"That is correct!"
A giggle,"Come down, Char!"
Chara stood and started down. She sat on the lowest branch and reached for the one right above it to swing down.
"Ready?"
"Go!"
Just as she leaned down, a sharp crack rang out and the branch broke. Chara fell forward and landed badly on her wrist. But her focus was on her brother, who was laying on the ground with his arms wrapped around his head, wailing. Red. So much red.
"Cory!"
"Chara? Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah! I'm fine!"
"Maybe you were right. Let's call it a night on giving out the candy."
Chara sighed,"Thanks, Frisk."
Frisk flicked the porch light off. Chara set the bowl down.
"Wanna talk?"
Chara took a breath,"Let's sit down."
---
"So, I just miss them. I'll never see them again. And that little boy being blind and looking just like him... It couldn't have been a coincidence."
"It's okay. I understand what it's like to know that you'll never see your family again."
"But yours is still alive."
"They were no family to me! My real parents died the moment they first hit me! The moment they didn't put the bottle away when I got up was when they were no longer my family."
Chara inhaled sharply. This was the first time Frisk had openly talked about her parents. As if she had just realized what she was saying, Frisk shook her head and shut up.
"Sorry. I'm making it like its a contest or something."
"It's okay. You're the only family I need."
"Excuse me?"
"Sorry Azzi. You're my family too."
"I know. I'll, uh, leave you two alone now."
Chara blushed as he walked away. Frisk leaned against her shoulder, humming. Chara kissed her softly on the nose and took her hand. Frisk smiled and brought Chara's hand to her mouth.
"Nom," she said, gently biting it,"yummy."
"Ah! You ate my hand! However will I survive?"
"I'll be your hands, if you want."
Chara laughed and kissed Frisk. Frisk leaned into it, scooting closer to her. Chara softly bit her lips, to which Frisk obliged eagerly. Chara explored quickly, aware of Asriel in the other room and the fact that Toriel and them could be home any moment. Frisk smiled into the kiss, letting out a little moan. Chara smirked, slipping her hand under her shirt.
Frisk shuddered, goose bumps going up her arms. Suddenly, a door slammed shut and the pattering of little feet surrounded the couch. The family was back from trick or treating, and the twins had lots of chocolate smeared on their faces.
"geez, get a room."
Sorry for the shorter chap than normal, but I'll try to update again tomorrow. So, you got a little flashback about Chara's lil bro. Those of you who read Dark Days to Come may remember him. If you didn't read it please don't it's terrible. I'm warning you, it's really bad. Also, I reread this and noticed some things I want to fix, so if I reupload any chapters don't worry, I'm just changing a few things, nothing major.
