-Chapter Sixteen-

Chara paced the hallway in front of Frisk's room nervously. Why wouldn't they let her see Frisk? Why was the doctor in there still? Who was the worried looking nurse that rushed in?

She sat down, shaking her head and trying to get rid of those thoughts. Frisk would be fine, nothing was wrong. Yet she couldn't shake the look of pure terror she had seen on Frisk's face before the ambulance arrived. What had made Frisk act like that?

She stood up as the doctor walked out, looking sad, and a little hit angry, it seemed.

     "Is she okay?"

"Frisk is... Fine, for the moment. Is Mrs.Toriel around?"

"She had to leave, we have twins at home. You can tell me anything that's needs to be known about Frisk."

"Oh, okay. Are you aware of what happened to Frisk a few weeks ago?"

"Yes. No one else is though."

"Well, nothing showed wrong on any of the tests we ran. A slightly higher heart rate was the only anomaly. Which, isn't unusual, given what happened. I have a theory though, and what I think Frisk has hardly ever shows physical symptoms. I understand that, while underground, countless monsters tried to kill her, which could have caused this. I believe Frisk has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD. And, what happened to her brought back the panic attacks and sporadic bursts of depression."

"You think she's? Well," She squeezed her eyes shut against the plentiful memories of her own brother trying, and in some cases, succeeding, to kill Frisk,"I can see how that could happen. Is there anything you can do for her?"

"PTSD is entirely psychological. There's not really any medicine for it, only time and patience can help. I recommend getting a therapist. But, there is something else I think she should tell you."

Chara held her breath as she walked into the room. Frisk was sleeping, her chest rising and falling in rhythm with the machine she was hooked up to. The doctor sighed.

"I told them to lower the sedation amount. Sorry, she should wake up soon."

With that, he quickly walked out, speaking rapidly into a cell phone. Chara sat on the edge of her bed, watching Frisk sleep. She brushed some hair off of her forehead, tracing the lines around her eyes. She lightly ran her fingertips along Frisk's cheek, cradling it gently. Why couldn't I see? Why can't I protect her? Why wasn't I there? I promised I'd always be there for her! I promised!

"I'm sorry."

Chara hadn't realized she had said those two words until Frisk stirred, eyes flickering open.

"For what?"

"Oh, Frisk! Are you okay?"

"I-I'm fine. Just tired. Chara. Chara I'm sorry. I'm sorry! I didn't want this! I just wanted to be with you!"

"Woah! Calm down Frisk. Breathe. It's okay. Nothing is your fault."

Frisk nodded, tears spilling over,"It is, Chara. I know you say it wasn't anyone's fault, but you're wrong! It was my fault! I caused it!"

Frisk was wide awake now, eyes lit with a wild light. Chara took her hand, confusion clouding her thoughts.

"What? What was your fault? Tell me so I can help! Please!"

"Don't you remember?! Genocide! The destruction of everyone we love! I caused it!"

Chara stiffened, memories flooding back. The memories she had spent several years trying to block out, to forget. Everyone turning into dust. Everything being silent and buried.

The memories of possessing Frisk.

She shook her head, pushing the memories out once more. She forced cheerfulness into her voice.

"Is that what's got you all worked up? We've gone over this before, it was no ones fault."

"But it was." Frisk's voice was low, as if she had already given up,"I was curious. I made the choice to reset. I took for granted the determination I had been given. I gave up all the good memories because I was curious!"

"No. Never say that. We were both curious. And you made it right. You fixed it Frisk! There is nothing for you to be guilty about! Now, promise me you will never, ever blame yourself again."

"I can't."

"Yes, you can."

"I-I p-promise."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Um, the doctor said that you needed to tell me something."

Pain filled Frisk's eyes. She opened her mouth.

Doo doo dee doo. Doo doo Dee doo.

Chara cursed mentally, picking up her phone.

"Hello?"

"Oh, Chara, thank goodness. Could you please come home? I'm here alone and Travis and Terri are screaming."

"Mom, I'm with Frisk. Can't you call Asriel or something?"

"He won't pick up! I'm sorry Chara, but I'm sure Frisk will be fine for twenty minutes. I'm begging you!"

"Ugh, fine. But twenty minutes, no more than that."

"Thank you, my child."

Chara hung up, sighing.

"Look, Frisk, I've gotta go help mom wth the babies. Sorry."

Her eyes swirled with conflicting emotions. Chara could briefly make out excitement, sadness, fear, and something she couldn't quite make out. As she saw the set in Frisk's jaw and the firmness in her gaze, Chara suddenly knew what the emotion was.

It was acceptance.

Frisk knew that she couldn't change what was going to happen, whatever that was. She knew that the only way to face this was with determination and an open mind. Chara closed the door behind her, thoughts flying. What was Frisk going to tell me? Why did the doctor bring up what had happened to Frisk? Why did mention of the babies cause that reaction from her?

A thought struck her and she slammed on the brakes, causing a chorus of angry honks to erupt around her. She pulled over, sitting on the side of the road. Why was Frisk hesitating so much? These panic attacks haven't been caused just by what happened and genocide. It's something else. Why didn't I see? It's so obvious! This is all one big thing all connected together.

But why did Frisk wait so long to tell her?

Yo. I know this chapter is kinda short but deal with it because I've been really busy. Sorry for not telling you what's wrong with Frisk, but it's so obvious! There's been hints since chapter ten! I'm not kidding either! So, guess what's wrong, besides the whole PTSD thing. Also I've got a few questions and I need your answers to help me with this book.

Who would be more afraid of roller coasters, Chara or Frisk?

Who's the better dancer?

What would be a song that applies to Charisk? (I really need a song for them)

That's all for now, so there's some hints for eventual chapters. :3

Also, I'm going to be back in school Monday, so updates may take a while. But 16 chapters is pretty far into the story, so it should be fine. Until next time my childs!
