-Chapter Seventeen-

Frisk stared at the closed door, already wishing Chara was back. She sighed, looking at her arm. The IV attached to her stung with every heartbeat, sending sharp bolts of pain up her arm. She shook her head, resisting the pull of sleep. She decided to try to distract herself with memories, good ones.

"I'm sorry. You're not really Chara, are you? What... What is your name? Frisk, huh? That's... That's a nice name."

"We can be happy together, we can be like... Like a family."

"Thank you."

"You saved us."

"You freed us."

"Thank you, Frisk."

The words of countless monsters flowed through her head, all thanking her for saving them. She smiled, tears of joy falling. Everything was okay now. She would never reset again. She would live happily on the Surface with her family. She would live with Chara. Nothing would go wrong.

But her thoughts didn't stay that cheerful.

Before she could stop herself, the words of gratitude twisted into words of hatred and fear.

"Please don't kill me!"

"Why... You..."

"You killed us!"

"Why did you do this!"

"Help us!

"Save us from Frisk!"

Frisk sobbed, her mind taking every good thing and tearing it to pieces. She saw everyone die over and over again. She heard their dying words, from still trusting them to pledging revenge. Again and again she mentally tortured herself, nothing able to calm her. Darkness tinged her vision as she gratefully sank into a dreamless sleep.

---

A heavy wave of nausea woke Frisk. She retched, but nothing came out. She had eaten nothing for at least a day, and she felt her stomach twist in protest. She laid back, coughing. She scratched her arm around the IV, almost not able to resist the urge to pull it out.

She smiled, a strange, high pitched giggle escaping her mouth. This truly is funny. This is all a dream. All a bad dream and I'm dying on the ground of a cave under a mountain. None of this ever happened it's just a coma-induced dream in my fever ridden body. Maybe I'll wake up. Maybe I won't. Who cares who cares who cares WHO CARES! I don't care! Let me die! Let me die and leave all this madness that is called life. Please, let me die.

     But I can't.

     I WON'T!

I will not go quietly into the night!

A strange sensation filled her body, warming her and shaking the terrible thoughts away. She felt fierce love burning within her, reawakening the memories of the people she cares for. Faces flashed before her, each filling her soul more and more.

     I must stay determined!

She could hear the voices of everyone she knew drawing her in, pulling her out of the mental pit she was stuck in. She saw everyone cheering her on, but, something was missing.

No. Not something. No, ha ha ha, someone is missing. Someone I've never met before, but I love them. I know I love them. How could I not?

As Frisk recovered, she never noticed her soul, shining brightly beside her, it's jagged edges slightly smoother.

Hewwo. I know this chapter's kinda short, but it's kind of a filler for now. So, Frisk's going slightly insane, don't you think. Also, I may or may not have included a line from my favorite poem in this chapter :3  Also I think two people have guessed correctly what's happening to Frisk. So yerp

I'm gonna be in school Monday, so updates will slow down. I know I'm saying this a lot, but I keep repeating it so some people *cough FluffyJojo cough BlazingDreams31 cough cough* can maybe stop rushing me for updates. Noot noot my noodles.

Oh and you two I mentioned above, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I actually like people who ask for more chapters because it motivates me to keep writing. But just a warning, I won't be able to post a chapter every time you ask, but I'll try.
