Chapter 4: Trial and errors

Frisk's footsteps echoed softly as she ventured further into the Ruins. The hall opened up into a new room, lit only by the faint glow of red torches on either side. The dim light illuminated a row of levers along the wall, each one worn and covered in moss. A stone platform rested across a chasm, with large spikes jutting up from the floor ahead. It was clear: the way forward was locked behind a series of puzzles.

"Alright, time to stretch that brain of yours..." Flowey chuckles, popping up beside her. "This looks simple enough, unless you're not as smart as you seem."

Frisk ignored him, approaching the levers with caution. She pulled the first lever. A creaking sound echoed through the room, and a small bridge extended across the chasm. Yet, the spikes ahead remained firmly in place, their metal tips gleaming in the torchlight. She pulled the next lever, watching as a second bridge piece slowly extended, allowing her to cross another section of the gap.

"making progress already? Don't get too excited, we still have lots more ahead." - Flowey said as his gaze observes Frisk's movements.

Frisk rolled her eyes and continued, pulling a third lever. This one, however, triggered a shift in the walls themselves. With a heavy grind of stone, a panel slid aside to reveal a hidden alcove where a small chest rested, dusty and old. She opened it, finding some gold and leftovers.

{Perhaps these could come in handy later...} Frisk thought, taking everything on the chest as she continued down the path. With the last lever pulled, the spikes finally retracted into the floor, clearing the way forward.

In the next room, tall stone pillars loomed over her, their surfaces carved with intricate designs. Between them, Frisk spotted the faint outline of a button on the ground—a tiny, red button barely noticeable among the cracks in the floor. A small prompt floated in her vision:

[You see a red button. Push it? (Yes/No)]

Without hesitation, Frisk chooses Yes. Immediately, a bridge of water flowers blossomed in front of her, stretching across a shallow pond. She crossed it, finding another button on the far side. This time, upon pressing it, a new path of flowers appeared on the opposite side, leading her to yet another lever. She pulled it, and a flash of light illuminated the room as the flowers began to glow, creating a pathway back to the main hall.

"Hmpth, Be quicker, I don't feel like wasting more time here."

Continuing on, Frisk entered a circular room where four torches stood, each unlit except for the first one, which flickered with a red flame. She approached it cautiously, and as she reached out to interact with it, the second torch on the other side of the room burst into a flame. Moving to it, she saw that activating it made the third flame ignite, and after she activated the last one, with that, the final torch flared to life with a brilliant red glow.

A chest materialized in the center of the room, its lid slightly ajar, inside a handful of gold.

Once the chest is closed again empty, the pair of spikes blocking the next room's door sink below, opening the way for her. She quickly steps into the next room, a closed room with no exit besides an upper part with no way to climb up and a bunch of pillars in every corner.

Her gaze falls upon an old sign ahead, she walks closer before reading it carefully;

"First, the green leaves of the trees fall. Next, the blue sky fades away. Then, the orange hues of the sunset begin to vanish. Finally, the sunset departs, leaving behind a trim of red at the horizon's edge."

Puzzled, Frisk held her chin thinking for a solution. She investigated the room before noticing switches hidden behind the pillars, each one with its own color, a thought struck her about the sign's clues. She stepped to each one, triggering the switches in the following order; Green, blue, orange, red.

A low rumble reverberated through the room as a section of wall slid aside, revealing a hidden passage. Flowey pops up beside her, his eyes widened, mpressed.

"Alright, looks like you actually know what you're doing."

The passage led to a larger room with statues, in the center of the room was a massive set of stone stairs that began to lower, forming a staircase.

Frisk took a deep breath, following the path with steady steps.
