Ruins
Sans's POV
They looked lost. Maybe it was the way that they kept going back to the tall purple doors, or maybe it was the way that they followed Papyrus like their life depended on it. Either way, they seemed lost.
Papyrus had completely abandoned the thought of capturing the human, and befriended them. He couldn't bring himself to hurt them. But that didn't seem to help all that much. The human still wandered around, usually back to the Ruins, knocking on the door for hours, just sitting there, waiting and waiting.
They were waiting for that lady, weren't they? The one that made me promise never to hurt a human. The one that told bad knock knock jokes.
Yeah, that was the one. Frisk just kept going back to her door, waiting and waiting, until she would get sick and would be stuck in bed for a week.
It was sort of surprising, how persistent they were, how they would wait until they thought everyone was asleep and sneak out, and just wait, knocking on the door every so often, waiting for a reply. They looked like a lost puppy.
And the fact that they were human just made it more surprising. They must feel cold. And hungry. And whatever humans need to survive. Food? Water? Heat? Right now they were hungry, thirsty, and cold. Just waiting in the snow, with just their shirt and shorts.
"Hey, kid." I said. It was the fourth time this week that I had to walk out in the middle of the night because I found that Frisk wasn't in our house. They look up, their eyes barely open.
"This is a little bit too much exercise for two in the morning, don't you agree?" I ask. They shrug, leaning on the door, and shivering. God, this kid. What exactly was driving them to do this, over and over again?
"What are you waiting for, kid? At least tell me that, for walking all the way from home to here." I say playfully, sitting down next to them in the snow. They shiver again, their breath visible in the air.
"C'mon kid. Let's go home." I say, getting up and brushing off the snow from my jacket. They don't budge. All they do is shiver. I wait for a second, thinking that they might follow if I walk away. They don't.
"Kid, really. What's all this for?" I ask. I could barely tell what they were signing when their hands were shaking that much, but I got the message.
M-O-M
"Your mom?" I ask. Frisk nods again, still shaking. I look at the doors, then back at Frisk. Didn't the queen live here? How in the world could they be Frisk's mother?
I sigh, and sit back down. The cold didn't really bother me. I passed my jacket to Frisk, who's whole body fit into it, with room to spare.
"What's your mom like?"
Nice. Makes pies. Frisk signs. I nod.
"But why do you wait out here?" I ask. It seemed kid of extreme, even when they knew that this lady wouldn't open the door, even if they waited a hundred years.
Frisk shrugged.
It feels good to know I at least have a chance of seeing her again.
"But she doesn't."
But she might. Frisk smiles. And since I 'can' it means I 'have to'.
I chuckle.
"Well aren't you chilled to the bone?" I joke, and Frisk laughs, nodding.
It's not that bad.
Five hours later, I come home, carrying Frisk. Papyrus is awake, and has gone completely insane looking for the two of us. It was actually funny to walk into, Papyrus had flipped the couch, and ripped out all of the cushion, the kitchen had been completely destroyed, with my room ransacked.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" he shouts. I lift up Frisk a little more so he has a better view.
"I woke up early, and I couldn't find Frisk. Just went on a little scavenger hunt." I said. Papyrus sighs.
"It was one of those days?"
"Yeah."
"I still have no clue why Frisk just decides to go adventuring in the middle of the night. It's not safe, and it's hard enough with you sleep walking." Papyrus said as he carried Frisk to the couch and covered her up with a blanket. I shrugged.
"Not my fault bro. It's not my fault that I get cold while I sleep." I said. Usually, I made a midnight trip to Waterfall, and the occasional trip all the way to Hotlands to warm up.
"Well you have an excuse for once, but I still don't really know why Frisk does this." Papyrus said, getting another blanket and a pillow.
I paused. I didn't want to lie to Paps, but at the same time, Papyrus was always so stressed about training , worrying about me, and chasing Frisk and I down in the middle of the night at least three days out of the week.
"She goes to the doors of the Ruins." I said. Papyrus seemed surprised, and stopped what he was doing for a moment before continuing to wrap Frisk up with blankets and making sure that she was comfortable.
"Why in the world would she go there? It's too far away and it's dangerous..." Papyrus said before trailing off in a thoughtful silence.
"She said something about her mom."
Now that really seemed to get Papyrus's attention. He stopped and turned around halfway. He looked almost sad. But there was no reason for him to. He was too young to remember our father. I haven't told him about Gaster, or about the Void.
"Her mom? She lives in the ruins? Doesn't the queen?"
"Yeah. I guess she's talking about the queen. Apparently she's nice and makes pies." I said, watching Papyrus's reaction closely. He continues, maybe a little more slowly.
"Maybe... Tomorrow we can go together. At least that way it would be safer that way..."
"Sure Paps. Whatever makes you feel safe."
