Forget It [3]
"friiiiiiiisk... i think we're out of ketchup..." Sans moaned the next day, taking a empty bottle of ketchup out of the fridge. Frisk sighed.
"Well... Suppose we might have to go shopping again huh..." She muttered. "After all, since Papyrus left the fridge is practically empty..." She continued under her breath.
"what did ya say kid? i was busy lookin' in the fridge." Sans questioned, popping his head out from behind the fridge door. Frisk shook her head.
"Nothing!" She replied.
Just as it looked like Sans was about to answer, with a look of confusion on his face, a knock was heard at the door. Frisk suddenly perked up and smiled at Sans over her shoulder.
"I'll get it!" She called, running out of the kitchen. Coming to the front door, she opened it, to reveal standing upon their doorstep, was W.D Gaster.
"O-Oh! Hi Gaster!" Frisk called, giving him a slight wave. Gaster rose a brow at her.
"'Oh'? You sound like you might have been expecting someone else."
"W-What?! No! It's just--" Frisk laughed. "Okay, yeah, I thought you might have been Papyrus..." Frisk admitted.
"Papyrus? Why? Where is he off to?" Gaster wondered, now stepping inside as Frisk closed the door behind him.
"He... Well, he moved out."
"Moved out?!" Gaster cried in surprise. Frisk rose her eyebrows at him, seeing a look of what proud fathers had everywhere when their child had done something good with their lives. It kinda spooked Frisk a little, seeing a happy, gleam-y smile on his face as if he was dreaming about cats or something.
"Well, that's good for him. I'm proud of him." Gaster finally continued, snapping out of his weird trance. "Now then, where is my little lazybones?"
"hey G!" Sans called, standing in the hall. He walked over towards Frisk and Gaster and gave his father a grin.
"It's quite foggy out there today..." Gaster commented. "I thought I might have mist your house, walking out there in that."
"heheheh." Sans chuckled. "perhaps we should... a-void going outside then." Sans tried. But to his surprise, Gaster laughed at that one too.
"Well aren't you pretty humerus." Gaster grinned, taking his son into a headlock and giving him a noogie, which made Sans burst into uncontrollable laughter.
"hey! cut it out G! seriously! stop!" He continued to laugh. Frisk smiled, seeing that Sans was enjoying himself for the first time in hours. She turned her gaze towards Gaster.
"So, what are you doing here today, Gaster? The void not giving you a good time?" Frisk casually wondered. Gaster sighed, letting go of Sans, who was still chuckling in the background. He crossed his arms.
"To tell you the truth I don't know how much longer I can stand going there... It's a nightmare. Though, it's not like I can always stay up here. Otherwise my body might just vaporise."
"Oh... That's a shame." Frisk frowned. Gaster nodded.
"It is... But I'm still glad I get to see you lot for at least a few hours, before I have to head back." He smiled, ruffling Frisk's hair.
"Yeah, it's nice to see you too, Gaster." Frisk agreed.
"So... What do you two kids do around here, anyway?" Gaster wondered, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his dark cloak. Frisk and Sans looked towards each other. Sans had his brow raised, as if to be confused by the term 'kid'. Sans obviously wasn't used to being called one himself, despite using the term 'kiddo' on everyone else.
"Er..." Frisk giggled. "We usually just hang around I guess... Hey, maybe we can go to Grillby's or something?" She suggested, looking towards Sans.
"But it's as foggy as anything out there." Gaster pointed out. Sans grinned.
"well, we could just take a 'shortcut'."
"A shortcut?" Gaster repeated, oblivious to what he really meant. Without warning, both Frisk and Sans took each of his hands, as they teleported in a flash of blue light. Landing inside Grillby's, Gaster stared around, surprised.
"O-Oh, right... That's what you meant." Gaster chuckled, as Sans gave him a nod.
"Oh, hey Sans! Hey Frisk! Hey... Uh?" Grillby cocked his head to the side, wondering who the figure in the black cloak was. Sans laughed.
"hey grillby! grillby, i'd like you to meet W.D Gaster. he's kinda... er... well, he's kinda my dad." Sans casually explained, as Grillby pushed the glasses up on his face.
"It's nice to meet you." Gaster said, in his slightly spooky voice. Grillby slowly bobbed his head up and down, in an understanding nod.
"I see... Interesting... It's nice to meet you too." He agreed.
Still grinning, Sans waved to Frisk and Gaster to motion them over to sit on the stools. So they did. Frisk decided to order the usual fries, but for some reason she was also craving a burger today... So she ordered that too... And Sans? Well, he ordered ketchup of 'course! Gaster... He... Er... He ordered coffee... I guess....
While they were all conversing, Frisk was in the middle of eating when suddenly her phone vibrated and she jumped in surprise. With a roll of her eyes, she grabbed it out of her pocket and looked at it with a risen brow.
"what's up kiddo?" Sans wondered. Frisk exhaled, as she shoved her phone back into her pocket.
"It's Mettaton. He came to pick up something that Papyrus must have left at home but of 'course we're not at home to answer the door for him... Eugh... I might as well head back and unlock the door to let him in..."
"do you want me to go? i mean, i can get there pretty quickly after all." He said. Frisk shook her head with a smile, as she got off the stool and bounded for Sans, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"No, it's okay. I could do with the exercise. Besides, I've got the keys anyways."
"well, alright... if you're sure kid"
"I am sure." She beamed. "Will be back in a minute!" She called, waving at the three, as she walked out of the room. When she left, a small, brief chuckle was heard from Gaster's mouth as he turned his head towards Sans.
"She's a nice kid..."
"she sure is..." He agreed, turning back around to face towards the bar. Gaster did the same.
"So, you two have been doing okay, right? You know... Since that whole ordeal a year ago."
"yeah. yeah, we're fine. why do you ask?"
"No reason... It's just, I would be a little shaken up myself... Having to deal with Chara... And... You know. The things you had to go through when you were yo--"
"i told you, it's fine G. you don't have to talk about it." Sans mumbled, interrupting him.
"No but, I do. You see, I have to apologise. For everything.... I mean, I know I keep apologising but..." Gaster rose his right hand, to place it on Sans' shoulder. Sans simply shrugged him off and didn't even look him in the eye. He shook his head.
"like i told you, over and over...." Sans mumbled, his white pupils disappearing. "it's all in the past... and i don't like to keep lookin' at it... i don't care what happened. i don't care. and i don't like to talk about chara either. she's nothing but bad news. the mention of her name just.... eugh... it leaves a bad taste in my mouth." Sans spat, talking in a dark, eerie tone. Gaster rose a brow, seeing a side to his son that he had never really seen before. When Sans turned his head towards his father, his white pupils had returned, and he was giving him his usual, confident smile. "so don't worry about it, yeah?" He finished. Gaster frowned. Without saying a single word, he simply nodded. It was obvious that Sans was just going to push him off whenever he brought it up... So what was the point...?
"Hey guys! I'm back!" Frisk's voice yelled. She sat on the stool beside Gaster and smiled.
"Told you I'd be back quickly. I even had to water Flowey. He was being his moody old self. Haha. I mean--" She stopped, when she noticed the glum look on both of their faces.
"What's... going on?" Frisk wondered. Grillby looked over to her and simply shrugged. When Gaster and Sans had been talking, he left the room to take out the trash. He was just as clueless as her.
"Guys?"
"Huh?" Gaster looked towards her and tilted his head to the side, smiling. "Don't worry about it, Frisk. Everything is fine... Really."
"Uh..." Frisk pouted, not looking so convinced. Everyone had gone awkwardly quiet, which was really starting to make Frisk SUPER uncomfortable... She started to tap her fingers on the desk in wonder, hoping that some sort of thing would come to mind to form a conversation.
"So... Papyrus has moved out, huh?" Gaster casually asked, trying to break the ice. Frisk flinched, seeing Sans also slightly falter. Sans exhaled.
"i guess so" He mumbled into his ketchup bottle. "...so... flowey was givin' you a hard time, kiddo?" Sans said, turning his attention towards Frisk. She rose her eyebrows, slightly tilting her head to the side in thought.
"Well... No, not really... He just... He wasn't really talking. At all. He sorta just turned his attention away from me and didn't say a word... Which is weird. Usually he'd always have something to say when he sees me... Not always something nice but... Something... I dunno." She shrugged.
"weird... maybe he's just not havin' his day i guess" Sans replied. Frisk slowly nodded in agreement.
"Probably..."
