Couldn't Stay Away [4]

After spending quite awhile at Grillby's, the three of them decided to head back to the house.

Frisk took the door handle into her grasp. She tried rattling it, to push the door open. But it didn't budge.

"Locked? I could have sworn I left it unlocked for Mettaton..." She mumbled. "Hm..." She took out her keys and carefully unlocked the door, pushing it open.

"It's a little dark in here, isn't it?" Gaster wondered, walking in after Frisk.

"Now that you mention it..." Frisk mumbled, frowning at all the turned off lights. She knew she had also left those on before she had come back... What was going on...?

"Flowey?" Frisk questioned, walking over to the windowsill. She could see Flowey sitting in his pot, staring out the window.

"Flowey??? Hellooooo?"

"What do you want?!" He snapped, turning his attention towards her.

"It's about freakin' time! You ignored me earlier when I came in too. What is it with you?!" Frisk complained. Flowey bit his bottom lip, looking worried.

"Flowey...?" Frisk repeated. It seemed like Flowey was looking over her shoulder towards something. "Are you okay...?"

"FRISK, LOOK OUT!" She heard Sans' voice boom.

"Huh?!" Frisk quickly turned around, to see a blue flash of light before her. Sans quickly teleported, taking a hold of the wrist of a dark figure. He narrowed his eyes, seeing their bright red eyes pierce through the dark. He recognized who those eyes belonged to...

"so, you decided to try and come back, did ya? ya little runt!" Sans roared, kicking her back with his foot so she flew across the room. The girl cackled, a knife still in her hand.

"Hello, Sans, Frisk. It's nice to see you two again, don't you agree?"

"C-Chara?!" Frisk cried, clearly shocked. "How are you... When did you...?! But... We killed you! Your soul shattered right before our eyes so how did you...?" Frisk stammered, clearly confused.

"Hahahaha...." She creepily giggled. "You're just so stupid, aren't you, Frisk? You're still so clueless... Even after all this time..."

"shut up you little brat... leave the kid alone. i think she's had enough, dealing with you and your disgusting, petty ways. all anyone wanted to do for you, was try and make you try to see that it's possible to be a better person. but all you ever do is destroy and kill everyone and everything in your path... why? what is even the point?!"

"It's not like people like you could understand, smiley trashbag..." Chara grinned. She turned her gaze towards Flowey. "Only... CERTAIN people... Know how... Liberating it is to act this way..."

"Leave me alone..." Flowey muttered, avoiding her eye contact. "I don't want to help you... I know that you would just kill me if I got in your way... You did it before!! I remember!!" Flowey cried, clearly distraught. Chara giggled.

"So you'd rather betray me, Asriel.. Then help me in my plans... Hahahaha... You always were a coward. When are you ever going to follow through with anything you started? You said you wanted to show people what this world really meant. Yet you decided to give these humans mercy. You always contradict yourself, Asriel. When are you going to stop playing the fool?"

"LEAVE HIM ALONE!!" Frisk screamed at her, which took everyone in the room by surprise, even Chara looked a little taken aback by her outburst. Frisk gritted her teeth. "Just tell me! How the heck did you survive?! We killed you, okay?! A year ago - we killed you! How are you still here?!"

Chara grinned.

"Frisk, you should know by now... If a person is DETERMINED enough to live.... It's not impossible to evade death... You of all people should know that..."

"Determination..." Frisk muttered under her breath. "But... You're pretty much a wondering soul... How would you even manage to get determination?"

"Hahahaha... From you, of 'course... When I tried to control you... When I destroyed your confidence in yourself... When I haunted your nightmares and made you lash out against your friends... I was stealing your determination, Frisk... It's no wonder why you were so negative. It's no wonder why you couldn't be bothered to do anything when all this was going on a year ago."

"If you think you're just so easily going to be able to kill us, I think you're the one who is the fool." Gaster commented, narrowing his eyes. Again, Chara let out a haunting sound of laughter. Eventually, she stopped and smirked.

"Oh, believe me... I've really thought it out this time... I won't even need to kill you or Sans here, in this time... Hahaha..."

"What...?" Frisk rose a brow, confused. "What does she mean...? In this ti--" Suddenly, in the corner of her vision, she could suddenly see Sans collapse to the floor, clutching his chest. He let out a little cry, as he did. Frisk's eyes widened, as Chara started to giggle.

"Sans!" She shouted, kneeling down and putting her hands on his shoulders. She noticed he was shaking quite badly and he was clenching his eyes shut as hard as he could. Frisk looked towards Chara.

"What have you done to him?!" She screamed. Gaster narrowed his eyes.

"gck... so, she's gone ahead and done it... how did she even get a hold of it...?"

"What?! Get a hold of what?!" Frisk shouted. Sans looked towards her, with a frown.

"The way Sans is reacting... What she said... Chara has seemed to have created... A paradox." Gaster said.

"A paradox?! How!? When!? What even!?!?!?" Frisk shouted.

"During some point in the timeline, in the underground, I was actually also working on well, a machine that could help people travel through time... I had left it at the house, before I disappeared. I guess he must have kept it and didn't destroy it... Chara somehow got her hands on it and she's gone and altered... Something."

"You're pretty smart..." Chara said. "I guess that's why you're the old scientist who worked along Alphys, huh?"

Gaster narrowed his eyes. "You two, you have to get back down to the underground and use that machine. Otherwise everything that has already happened is done for... I'll fight Chara off here..."

"W-Wha?!"

"k-kiddo... c,mon!" Sans muttered, holding out his hand for her to take it. She frowned, hesitating. But then she quickly took his hand and they teleported off, down into the underground.
