Surprise [Gaster x Asgore]

this wasn't a request I just wanted to write this lol

Gaster walked into the Throne Room, stumbling a bit. "Sorry for being late, Your Majesty..." he said, trying to seem awake. He hadn't gotten a full night's sleep in two months, and was always tired. Asgore turned towards the doorway, alarmed by his state.

"Dr. Gaster! You look terrible! Are you feeling alright?!" he said, sounding concerned and rushing to his friend's side. Gaster shrugged. "More or less. I'm fine, King Asgore, don't worry about me..." Asgore gave him that sideways glance he always gave the skeleton when he thought he was lying. Gaster sighed.

"Okay, okay, I'll admit it. I'm not feeling the best." Asgore smirked a bit. "And by that you mean...?" The skeleton rolled his eyes. "If you insist to know, I haven't slept well in two months and I am feeling a bit sick. But you know how much I hate taking days off, Your Majesty! The Underground needs me to be awake and work hard, so that's what I do. It's for the good of the kingdom."

Asgore sighed. "Dr. Gaster, my dear friend, I can't stand to see you like this. I tell you all the time to take better care of yourself and your health, and yet you look even worse every single time I see you! I'm scared, Gaster. I can't lose you." The skeleton put his head on the King's shoulder, still very tired. "I know, Your Majesty, I know... I just don't have the time... between my children and my job, I barely pay any attention to my own well-being..."

Asgore sighed. "Gaster, you need to sleep. Please. I'm worried about you. Come along, my friend, I'll walk you back. The meeting can wait, you're more important." The goat monster seemed to have a light blush on his face, but Gaster thought he was just seeing things. Asgore led the skeleton back to his home, said hello to Sans and Papyrus, then walked Gaster upstairs. "You can take the rest of the week off, Dr. Gaster. I'm sure Dr. Alphys won't mind working alone for a while." Gaster smiled. "Thank you, sire. I'll come see you for the meeting tomorrow, though."

After a good night's sleep, Gaster headed to Asgore's castle for the meeting they had planned the previous day. Gaster had no idea what the king wanted to talk about, but knew it was important if he had to schedule a meeting about it. He knocked on the door of Asgore's home, having much more energy than the day before. "King Asgore?" he called. Asgore opened the door. "Gaster! You did show up! How did you sleep?" he asked cheerfully. Gaster smiled. "Better than I ever have. And of course I showed up. I never miss a meeting."

The two friends sat down with tea for a while, making the usual small talk, before Gaster remembered they were supposed to be talking about something important. "Um, sire, you said you had something important you wanted to tell me about?" A light came on in Asgore's head. "Oh yes! Um, how exactly to word this, though..." he said awkwardly. Gaster smiled. "If it's hard to put into words, Your Majesty, then just spit it out." Asgore nodded.

"Listen, Dr. Gaster. I know we talk about this all the time, but I really am concerned for your health. I know you hide those cigarettes of yours from me, and you never tell me when you're sick. It's always your son, and every time he calls, he tells me that you didn't want me to know you were sick because you don't like taking days off in order to get better." Gaster sighed. "I know, Your Majesty, and I apologize about all that... I just don't want you to worry about me." Asgore stood up, prompting Gaster to do the same. "Gaster, I'm going to worry either way. I care about you a lot, you know that." The skeleton simply looked down, not answering, which prompted the goat monster to speak again.

"I'll prove it."

"Wait, wha—"

Gaster was interrupted by Asgore pulling him forward, putting a hand under his chin and kissing him on the mouth. Gaster felt like he was about to faint — so the king did like him back! "Mmph?!" After a second, he smiled a bit, closed his eyes, and wrapped his arms around the King's neck, something he had always wanted to do. When they let go of each other after what seemed like forever (but was really just about a minute), both of the monsters were blushing messes, and both of them laughed a little bit. "Heh... t-that was... wow..." Gaster chuckled awkwardly. Asgore smiled. "I've wanted to do that for a while now."

"S-so..." Gaster stammered, feeling nervous, but also the happiest he had ever been in his life. "W-what does this make us to each other now...?" Asgore hugged him tightly. "Oh, what do you think?" he chuckled. "Will you go out on a date with me, Gaster?" Gaster smiled and hugged back. "I would be an idiot to say no." They heard a voice from the entrance. "Aw jeez, get a room you two."

They both whipped around to see Gaster's eldest son, Sans, standing in the entrance. They both flushed red. "S-since when were you here?!" Gaster stammered. Sans shrugged and laughed. "Since about twenty seconds ago. I always had a feeling you liked him, Dad." Papyrus peeked around the doorway too. "Does this mean we're gonna have two dads?!" he said excitedly. He had only had one parent all his life, so he was excited to have two, like all the kids in school, even if he didn't have a mother figure. Asgore and Gaster both smiled a bit, still embarrassed about being found out so soon. Before either of them could say anything, Sans spoke again. "Probably, seeing how these two are practically soulmates."

Gaster rolled his eyes, embarrassed. "Oh shut up Sans. Don't pretend you don't like that Grillby friend of yours." Sans blushed. "Maybe I do, maybe I don't." Papyrus laughed. "Am I the only straight one in this family?!" he said. "Apparently," Gaster chuckled, taking the king's hand. Asgore smiled and said exactly what Gaster knew he would say. "Well, since you two are here, why not sit down and talk for a while? We have plenty of time." "Sure, why not?" Sans said with a smile. He led his brother into the living room and sat down with him, both chatting happily. Asgore put an arm around Gaster and smiled.

"Love you, Gaster."

"I love you too, Asgore."
