Picnic [Child!AT!Papriel]

You will ship it with me eventually
This takes place before monsters are trapped underground.

Toriel laid down in the soft grass, holding a small yellow flower and looking up at the clouds. School had ended, and she had nothing to do and nobody to play with until she was picked up, since she didn't have many friends. She mostly just kept to herself, worried about her family - her little brother, Asgore, and her stressed-out father, Asriel.

She heard someone lay down next to her, and turned to see a tall skeleton child laying next to her. He wore a black turtleneck, reminding Tori of her father, and some simple jeans. "Hi!" he said cheerfully, a cute, friendly smile on his face. Tori smiled. "Howdy there. You startled me," she chuckled. He looked apologetic. "Sorry! I have a habit of doing that... I-I can leave..." Tori sat up. "No no no! I like your company. I'm a bit lonely out here. Say, what's your name? I don't think we've met." The skeleton sat up too. "Oh! I'm Papyrus Ebone. Nice to meet you!"

Tori's eyes widened. "Ebone?? As in, you're the prince??" she said. Papyrus smiled. "Yeah. My older brother, Sans, goes to this school, too. People always think that they have to call me 'your highness' or 'your majesty' or other stuff like that. But I like going by my name," he said, still a friendly aura radiating off of him. He seemed to be very intent on being her friend. Tori smiled. "Okay then, Papyrus," she said. "My name's Toriel Dreemurr, but you can just call me Tori."

Papyrus smiled. "Tori. I like that name. It's cute." Tori smiled back. "Thanks! Your name is cool too!" The two talked for a while until a sketchbook fell out of Papyrus' backpack. "Oh, shoot!" he said, going to pick it up. Tori looked at the second page. It had a very well-drawn picture of a golden flower. "Wow! You're good at this stuff!" she said. Papyrus smiled a bit, embarrassed. "Thanks! Say, are you hungry? I have some food in my bag. I forgot to eat lunch today, I was studying." Tori nodded. "I am a bit hungry. I left my lunch at home this morning, so I haven't eaten since breakfast."

(A/N: Sharing food, the ultimate way to win over a crush in elementary school.)

Papyrus brought a paper bag out of his backpack and looked at what he had inside. "I have Oreos, orange slices, a candy bar we can split, a granola bar, a tuna salad sandwich..." The young goat monster smiled. "It's your food, you have whatever you want." "No no no! You're my friend. You're eating first." Tori chuckled, flattered that he saw her as a friend. "Well, I do like oranges," she said. Papyrus smiled cheerfully and passed her a sandwich bag containing sliced oranges.

They sat in the grass for a while, talking about all sorts of things from art to school to their parents and siblings. "My dad just works at a restaurant, but he gets us free food, which is awesome," Tori said, polishing off another orange slice. "Us?" Papyrus asked. Tori remembered she had forgotten to mention her brother. "Oh! I forgot to tell you I have a little brother. His name is Asgore." The prince smiled. "I'd love to meet him one day. Maybe he'll go to this school too!" Tori nodded. "He probably will. So, what about your parents?"

Papyrus snapped a candy bar in half, passing half to his friend. "You probably know my dad, Roman. He's the king, and my brother is next up to the throne after he kicks the bucket. My mom, the queen, is really nice, too — her name is Georgia." Tori felt a drop of water on her head. Then another. Then another. It was starting to rain. "Oh, hold on! I have an umbrella in my backpack," Papyrus said, pulling a red one out of his bag and passing it to her. She stood up, opened it, then motioned for the skeleton prince to walk close to her so he wasn't getting soaking wet.

They walked together back to the school, right as Asriel walked over holding an umbrella. "Tori, darling! There you are! I see you've met the Prince, right?" he said with a smile. Tori nodded. "Yep! He's really cool!" she said. Papyrus smiled. "You must be Mr. Dreemurr. Nice to meet you," he said cheerfully. Asriel smiled too, impressed by the prince's manners. "Very nice to meet you as well!" he responded gallantly. Papyrus could tell from just looking at him that Asriel was a very smart man, but was also concerned — he looked quite young to have two children.

He looked about 22, and Tori was seven. He didn't know how old Asgore was, probably around four. He decided not to touch on the subject too much. Meanwhile, while he was spaced out, Tori had been telling her dad all about what she and him had been talking about, and that Papyrus had shared his food. Asriel smiled brightly. "You are a kind child, Papyrus. I'm happy that Tori has a friend like you." The skeleton smiled. "It's no problem, sir!" he responded.

"Hey Pap?" Tori asked. Papyrus turned to look at her. "What is it?" "We have a test coming up in Math next week. Maybe could you help me study for it? You look smart, and Dad's got a lot on his plate already." Papyrus smiled. "Sure! I wouldn't mind. So, tomorrow around 2 PM, if that's good for you?" Asriel and Tori both nodded. "Sounds good! See you then!" The young goat monster ran up and hugged him before leaving with her father. At that moment, 13-year-old Sans walked up.

"Hi, Papyrus! Who was that?" he asked, noticing his little brother staring after her. "Her name is Tori. She's my new friend, and she's really nice! I'm going to help her study tomorrow." Sans smirked. "Study date, ah? Well, I hope it goes well. Now, how about we get home? Mom and Dad will throw a fit if we're late. They're so overprotective." Papyrus blushed a bit at the mention of a date with Tori, but nodded. "Let's go home."
