15 ~ Safer
Miguel set me down gently from the high speed piggyback ride, giving me time to adjust to my one semi-okay leg and my burning ankle on the other. Since my eye was closed a few minutes before we got here, I had no idea where we were or where the ground was until I touched it.
"Wait here a second, Doc," Miguel panted after running for so long. He walked a few meters away from me and pushed a few buttons somewhere.
I patiently waited, my hands still shaking from encountering the Royal Guard leader, Undyne. She was utterly terrifying, and her giving chase sent an adrenaline rush that was now depleting. With the dissipation of the fight or flight reaction, I realized just how badly my leg was damaged. If anything, something feels broken.
I heard a rumble, a click, then felt Miguel take my arm to hoist my arm over his shoulders to support me. I thanked him for it and we made our way through...somewhere.
The door closed behind us and Miguel spoke up, "Okay, you can open now."
I blinked my eye open, taking in a somewhat large area that looked about the size of two studio apartments side by side. Couches, tables, and a small fridge against the far right wall. Beds, kitchen counters and ware, and a metal door at the back.
I met eyes with a couple of monsters hanging about in the couch-lounge area. They looked like dragons of sorts, without wings. One was a dull grey and one was a piercing blue.
Miguel smiled, "Karu and Fruak! Haven't seen you two in awhile!"
"Hey, Mig!" The dragon that was blue got up and strode over, giving a quick hug to his buddy, "Good ta' see you're not fookin' dead! We heard Undyne was on your tail!"
Is that an Irish accent? Huh.
"Who's your human friend here?" The other grey dragon monster got up and walked over, having a less heavy Irish accent but one nonetheless.
"This is Dr. Reid, our negotiator," Miguel introduced.
"Welcome to our sanctuary, Doc," one greeted, "I assume your the Doct'r, right?"
"Certainly dressed like th' last one," the other agreed. I shook my head and both nodded in sync in understanding.
Miguel gestured to the dull grey dragon monster and the piercing blue on respectively, "this is Karu and Fruak. They're our firebreathing dragon brothers."
'Nice to meet you both' I signed with a tired smile. They both looked startled.
"No fookin' way! You sign like him too!" Fruak blinked in wonder at my hands. I sweatdropped, realizing he disregarded my words.
"Nice to meet ya too," Karu shook my hand, "you must've worked with him before. How did you survive?"
Thinking back to how other monsters talked about him, I replied, 'It was pretty difficult, but I managed.'
"Difficult, especially him amirite?" Fruak nudged Karu. Karu snickered along.
"Man he was so straight laced! No nonsense type of guy; If he was my employer I wouldn't even have the job."
Taking advantage of their open personalities, I smiled and nodded. How I made it this far into the mob crowd was really strange, but I was just rolling with it.
'Certainly was,' I replied, 'look, I hate to break up this nice welcome party, but I believe I've broken something and need medical attention.'
Karu's jaw dropped, spotting my leg, "dude, you should've told us when you came in!"
Fruak flipped, waving his arms, "broken?! Oh man, you're gonna fookin' die!"
"Relax, Fru," Karu calmed his brother, "He's not gonna die. Here, Mig and doc, let us get you over to the beds."
Karu helped me over to one of the beds while Fruak talked with a tired Miguel just behind.
--------------
Sitting with a cup of coffee with a new wrapped up leg, I relaxed into the plush of the furniture. Miguel opted to rest on one of the beds and was lightly snoring across the room while I stayed up with the dragon brothers.
"So, you got a bounty on ya head or somfin?" Fruak questioned me, "you seem to have quite a fanbase."
I raised a brow, replying, "What do you mean?"
Karu leaned forward, holding his own mug gently in his grey claws, "we had seen a couple of monsters searching the area for ya. A couple of skeles have been snoopin', and the whole of the Royal Guard on your ass."
'Skeletons? The ones from Snowdin?' I signed, 'I worked with Sans and I was staying with him for a time. He must be worried.'
"What made you stay with them? It's super cold over there!" Karu asked, sipping his coffee. Fruak looked like he wanted to know too.
'I wasn't forced, I just wanted to visit them for a time. A new change of pace from the Hotlands,' I signed, 'they're good monsters and they mean well.'
"It's quite uncanny," Fruak piped up, "why would you be friends with the guy rumored to have pushed the Royal Scientist off into the core?"
My heart dropped.
What? Sans? Actively killing someone like that?
I gave a quizzical expression as I signed, 'what? I can't see Sans doing something like that.'
"Well, Sans was his right hand man," Karu pointed out, "he probably got power hungry or something, then regretted his decision and quit."
I got a little defensive, 'okay, that's just irrational. Sans? No way! Power hungry and Sans just don't seem a pair, knowing him. He's more of a "roll with the punches" guy.'
"Whatever you say, Doc," Fruak placed his elbow on his thigh and rested his chin on his hand, "I just don't like him. He reeks LOVE to me."
I blinked, chewing on that thought. How strange. Maybe Sans was different back then.
'Let's agree to disagree, then,' I settled calmly, 'I mean, he wears pink slippers 24/7 for chrissakes.'
Karu snorted, "So the lookout wasn't kidding!"
Fruak sighed as he saw his brother outstretch his clawed hand towards him. Begrudgingly the blue dragon have his grey counterpart a couple of G.

A/N: This is more of a filler because of the word count that's half of an original chapter. I wanted you guys to meet the dragon-ish brothers. They were designed based off of lizzards, only with no tails. Bearded Dragons, I believe they're called?
I don't feel well enough to post an entire chapter, so chill with me here.
