Heart Attack Part 1

Chil would begin to make their way back to Toriel's home. Their head slumped down as dust trickled and flew off their sleeves and clothing. They slugged along the path, their eyes looking down at the ground as they walked forward.

Chil would stop at the steps leading to Toriel's home. Chil stared at the door to her home, their eyes lingering there for a few moments. The star returned their gaze back to them, its haunting emptiness a reminder of the current one within Chil themselves. Chil would extend their hand out towards the glowing star and would gently press their fingers against it.

(You killed someone, it was self-defense you're telling yourself. While the other half is likely telling yourself that it's something you want to do.

The act itself was disgusting, if this can happen to them. What about Toriel? what about to others like her? You know what you need to do, but you don't want to. But you know better.

You need to leave.

You are filled with Self-Awareness.)

Chil would release the star gently as they sighed and looked up at Toriel's home. They then walked inside and gently closed the door. Chil stood in front of the door. Their face pale as snow, they looked around for a bit. Looking for Toriel, but it seems she must have still been asleep. Chil would walk down the hall sluggishly. Their feet feeling like weights as they walked down the hallway. Eventually arriving at the mirror at the end they'd stand before it.

Their face...

(Its still You...)

"..."

"..."

Chil stared for what felt like hours to them, but mere moments when they'd eventually realize it. Chil then looked to their room and would walk inside and close the door. There Chil would see their clothes from before. The ones they fell down in. They walked over to them and would grab them. They'd give the clothes a quick whiff, they smelt incredible. And they were much softer and cleaner than before.

"Amazing!" Chil thought with a smile, however it wouldn't last long. As they're mind thought to Toriel and all of the joy that they both shared together. The feeling of being wanted, of receiving that feeling without needing to speak or give any signs. All of the happiness here was screaming to Chil-

STAY

STAY

STAY

WHY WON'T YOU STAY?!

ITS JUST ONE LIFE! WHO CARES?!

"No..." Chil thought. Thats when they'd get up and look at the clothes Toriel gave them one last time. They sighed heavily as they brushed their hand against it, feeling the incredible stitching and handywork. "..."

"It always starts at one. Then it goes to two, then three, and soon-
I'll have lost count of them. I need to go, go home. Humans don't belong down here...I don't belong down here.

I'm sorry...mother." Chil thought as they then began to put on their old clothes and gently set down the ones Toriel gave them. They'd then go to the door and open it gently; they'd take one last look at the room. It could have been their own. But seemed, it wasn't meant to be.

Chil then turned their back to the room and closed the door gently. Chil searched around the home for a bit, looking to see if they could find Toriel, but she was nowhere in sight. Chil even checked her room, but she wasn't there. Chil walked across the hall connecting the main hall to the living room, thats when they'd see the stairway downwards. Had it always been there? Or was Chil too distracted to even notice.

No.

They weren't looking to leave before, so why would this have been on their mind. Chil then walked to it and began to make their way downstairs. There was a instant hit of coldness coming from down here. A chill ran down Chil's entire body as they walked further and further in. As they did, they'd see a few snowflakes pass by their face. Somehow familiar. Eventually They'd see it, the doorway leading out of the Ruins...away from home.

Chil stood there for a moment looking at it, and as they went to take a step towards it-

"My youngling?" said Toriel, Chil's heart sank into a endless pit. A single drop of sweat trickled down their brow. Toriel looked at them, her hand reaching to them steadily.

"My youngling what is this? Why are you here? This place isn't meant for children. Come back upstairs and we- um...W-We can make some pie together. Play some more boardgames and even perhaps-"

"I'm leaving." Chil said. Toriel's eyes shrank in shock and fearful realization. Her mouth slightly quivering.

"...Y-...Your joking aren't you?...Youngling?" Toriel asked, yet Chil said nothing. They simply remained standing away from Toriel. Not facing her, but the door.

"Chil...Look at me." Toriel said. Yet Chil didn't.

"LOOK AT ME!" Toriel screamed.

"I killed someone." Chil said. Toriel's face then was changed to confusion and suprise. "I don't understand-"

"It was an accident; I went out exploring. Down the opposite path from the one we came here in. I found a...there was a monster. I tried everything you taught me. I tried dodging and I tried reasoning with them. But they didn't budge. Not even an inch. They just kept on attacking.

...I killed them. I didn't mean to." Chil said with a heavy sigh. Toriel's searched Chil's body before she walked closer and placed her hands on them.

"Oh my youngling, it sounds like you were just defending yourself. Its ok, don't worry." Toriel said as Chil finally broke down into Toriel's arms. Both holding the other as Toriel got on her knees with Chil. Tears ran down Chil's face like a waterfall as a few fell down Toriel's as well. She held onto Chil tightly.

"Shh shh, its ok Chil. Its ok. Don't cry anymore youngling. It had to be done. There was no other way. I know that must have been hard for you.

But at least now you know, in a world like this-

Its kill or be killed." Toriel said. Chil's tears would then slow down as they heard those words come from Toriel's mouth. They slowly looked up at Toriel who looked to them with a weak and tearful smile.

"I'm sorry you had to learn such a harsh lesson alone. But this how it often happens. I'm just glad you are ok my-" but that is when Chil would begin to struggle out of Toriel's embrace. Toriel wasn't sure what was going but she let go of Chil which caused them to roll along the ground.

"Youngling?" Toriel asked reaching to them.

"NO! DON'T TOUCH ME!" Chil screamed. Toriel's hand recoiled in shock at the sudden burst from Chil.

"So, your ok with that? With me killing people? Just to protect myself." Chil asked as they stood up.

"So long as it is in self-defensee and they leave you with no other choice. I beleive you have the right to take their life. Why should they be allowed to take yours? Don't you think that is injust? Unfair?" Toriel answered.

"Maybe...but killing shouldn't be the answer. It never should be." Chil said.

"So you will die huh? IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT FOR YOUSELF?! Someone so young, with so much life to live, and to give. You'd risk it all...and die?" Toriel asked. Chil stood in silence unsure at the moment how to answer. But there was one thing they knew.

They couldn't stay here.

Toriel looked at Chil, both staring at one another. Toriel saw their face and knew exactly what was happening. What was coming next. A dark shadow covered her eyes as she then began to stomp past Chil, Chil's head followed her and would fully turn to see Toriel standing in front of the doorway.

Her hand grazing over, the Soulful Triad inscribed upon it.

"I had...I had hoped I could have prevented this. That you would find solace in me, and peace. Yet now here we are...on the edges of it all. Do you not see?

The world is a cruel and dangerous place. It will not show you mercy. But I will. My youngling...I say one last time. Let us forget this...go back upstairs...please." Toriel said.

"..."

"..."

"I have to go." Chil replied. And after those words came out, Toriel's hands would curl into shaky fists. She would take a quick breath before steadying herself.

"Then you leave me no choice." Toriel said as she then quickly turned around to Chil. Chil looked at her with caution.

"If you want to go beyond these walls, if you really think that you're ready to face the world. That not killing anyone can save your soul and other'. Then so be it!" Toriel shouted as white flames then would burst from her hands as she stared at Chil with a bone-chilling stare.

Her face no longer looking motherly or caring. This was the face of an enemy.

"THEN FACE ME CHIL! Defeat me and I will know that you are truly ready to face the underground!" Toriel shouted, Chil's body wanted to run away. Run away from this fight...but Chil knew they had to get out and if this was the only way. Then so be it.
