What's Your Problem? [13]

Great... Today was the day, wasn't it? Where Sans, Undyne, Frisk and Ajax were all going to spend the day together. How perfect. But sadly, Sans agreed to this fucking stupid idea, and he wanted to spend the day with Frisk, so he had to be there. He wanted to make her happy, and he enjoyed spending time with her.

Just not when he was there.

They had decided to go to a cafe, sitting at a table just outside, enjoying the sunlight as the weather was pretty decent that day. It was fairly warm with a bit of a breeze, along with just a couple of strangely shaped clouds floating around in the sky. Definitely nice weather for spending the day out. If you weren't stuck with this a-hole.

Sans was just trying his hardest to be civil, and not downright put a threat on the guy the moment they came face to face. Then again, maybe that wouldn't have been such a good idea when this guy was literally the one in charge now. He could probably have Sans whisked away in the click of a finger, and no one would ever know about it. So, perhaps threatening him wasn't such a good idea.

He hated how this guy acted. All happy, like he didn't have a care in the fucking world. Like he literally wasn't the guy that appeared to hate monsters, and he could be the one to make rules against them. He shook Sans' hand as if they had known each other for years, but Sans could still only just roll his eyes when Ajax had turned his back, as he clearly was not interested.

Back to being at the cafe. It was literally just Sans and Undyne sitting drinking their own drinks, while Ajax and Frisk had their own mini conversations, from how good the beverages tasted, to what the weather was like, to friends and family, then even going on to how excited Ajax was to be in the new position he was now. They just rambled and rambled, and the entire time Sans and Undyne just felt like the third and fourth wheel.

"So, how did you two meet then?" Ajax wondered, seeming to finally acknowledge Sans' existence as he turned his glance directed at him. Sans rose a brow, wondering what he was up to.

"uh... we met in the underground? just like how frisk met all her monster friends?" Sans replied, the sound of confusion clearly in his voice. An expression of interest appeared to spread across Ajax's face as he eyed Sans carefully.

"But what made you two so drawn to each other? You must have known you were different, right?" He asked. Sans furrowed his brow, not liking where this was going.

"seriously, dude. what's your problem?" Sans demanded seriously. Ajax chuckled and shrugged.

"You don't need to get so defensive about it. I was just curious. Because with the history between monsters and humans, it just makes me genuinely wonder how you fell in love with each other. Wouldn't she have been afraid of you? Like most humans would have been in that situation."

"Ajax..." Frisk murmured.

"Enough, punk. You're really beginning to push it." Undyne warned him, clearly not liking the third degree towards Sans. But instead of the skeleton replying, he just exhaled and stood up from his seat, glaring at him.

"you know what? i think i'm done here. go enjoy your day with this jerk, because i don't want to be apart of it." He growled, going to turn around and sulk off by himself. Ajax gave both Frisk and Undyne an innocent shrug, almost as if he had no clue how he had upset him. Undyne shook her head disapprovingly at him, and Frisk got up for her own seat, telling them to wait for her return as she was going to go after Sans.

"Sans! Sans, wait up!" She called after him, actually surprised when he didn't stop. With a sigh, she sped up the pace in her footsteps, making sure to catch up with him, apologising when she almost walked into several random strangers while going after him, only to stand directly in his way. "Hey, come on now. I know that you're mad, but you don't have to go and ignore me." Frisk frowned.

"look, frisk... i just... i don't know. i need time to myself. if i spend any more time with that asshole, i feel like i'm only goin' to go and snap at him." The skeleton said.

"But that's what he wants."

"i know that. which is why i'm going away,  because otherwise i'll just get more mad... just enjoy the day with him and undyne. i need to be by myself for a bit." He grumbled, going to walk away again as he went past Frisk.

"S-Sans..." Frisk tried to stop him, but when it seemed like he'd only continue to ignore her, all she could do was sigh and stare after him sadly as he walked away. It wasn't good to keep pushing it. If Sans wanted to be alone, then he wanted to be alone. Frisk couldn't say she blamed him. They had been through a lot together, all those pacifist timelines, genocide timelines...

And the truth was, Sans would not have been nice to Frisk the very first time he met her if he had not made a promise to Toriel. That was just a fact. Both of them knew that he would have killed her. Hell, he had even gone and admitted it to her during her journey in the underground. Because at first he hadn't really trusted her, he didn't believe she was completely innocent or naive.  Not to say that she was now but, now he trusted her more than ever. He wouldn't be proposing to her if he didn't.

The skeleton sulked to himself as he continued to put one foot in front of the other, walking nowhere in particular. He was just wondering, wondering alone until he was satisfied that he was no longer bothered or upset. That his thoughts would just stop bugging him and that they'd go and disappear. Why did Ajax have to be such a nose-y little dickhead? That's what Sans was wondering. It literally had nothing to do with him! What was he doing, going and asking about their relationship when they hardly even knew him, when they weren't even friends!

It was as if Ajax was trying to point out the flaws of their relationship. The fact that Sans was a monster, and Frisk was a human. Did he believe that they shouldn't have gone together or something? To Sans, that's what it sounded like, and it only made the rage burn up inside him the more he thought about it. For too long, monsters were still being put down with prejudice views. When were people ever going to give them a break? When was he going to get a break? It's not like he asked for this. It's not like he asked to be born into a world where most people would rather hate him and see him be put back underground than be accepted and loved.

He never asked to be a monster. But what kept him from getting upset over the fact that he wasn't like them, that he wasn't human, was Frisk. Clearly she was with him, because she loved him. She saw past all his flaws, all his imperfections. And being a monster didn't seem to bother her. If it wasn't for her, Sans could hate himself so much more right now.

But it was thanks to her that he didn't. It was because of her, he felt like the most luckiest skeleton in the world.
