We'll Help You [7]

Ask Frisk the question, huh...?

Sans was just busy spending his time spacing out as he had joined Frisk at hanging out with Papyrus and Mettaton at the house and they were watching TV in the living room, but he was spending more time thinking about what Gaster said.

He glanced over towards Frisk who was smiling and talking to Papyrus. The older skeleton let out a small sigh as he imagined all the possible scenarios that could occur if he had even bothered to ask her. Who knew? Maybe he'd freak her out into resetting.

The skeleton narrowed his eyes, remembering back to those timelines when Frisk was being controlled by Chara. Where she was just killing monsters left and right. Frisk was the one who had originally pressed the reset button though... Who was to say she wouldn't do it again...?

No, shut up, Sans. Stop doubting her. It's you with the problem, not her...

That's what he really hated so much about himself. There were times where he just couldn't help but be doubtful... Even to the point of where he would just doubt Frisk all over again, at least until his mind decided to snap back into place and say "Hey! Stop being stupid!". Frisk loved him, just like he loved her... But would she really say yes to him? Thinking about it now, he couldn't help but doubt himself.

"Sans?" Someone spoke, which caused him to stop spacing out like he always did. He glanced towards Frisk, Papyrus and Mettaton, noticing they were staring at him and he rose his eyebrows, confused.

"yea?" Sans wondered, wondering what all the watchful eyes were for.

"Are you okay?" Mettaton asked.

"i'm fine, mettaton." Sans sighed as he rolled his eyes. "why do people keep asking me that?"

"Maybe because you spend too much time going off into your own little world." Mettaton replied. "Go out and get some fresh air or something. You spend way too much time inside." Mettaton spoke. Sans thought about what he said, actually deciding that maybe that'd be a good idea. He was thinking that maybe if he could get out the house by himself, he could perhaps ask Toriel and Asgore about it... After all, he knew he'd probably need permission anyway with how protective Toriel was of Frisk, and he didn't really think he'd have his head knocked off over the idea, or that he'd be turn to dust. So maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

"hey, good idea. perhaps i'll do just that." Sans shrugged, getting up, which actually caught the three by surprise.

"Do you want me to come with you, Sans?" Frisk asked which caused Sans to shake his head with a smile.

"neh, don't worry 'bout it kid. i just need some time to myself. thanks for offering though." He grinned, going over towards her and kissing her on the forehead, before suddenly teleporting away and vanishing from their sight.

He had reappeared in front of Toriel and Asgore's house. Flowey and Chara resided here too, so he expected to see them around while paying the Dreemurrs a visit. Sans couldn't help but hesitate when he had walked up to their front door. The skeleton wasn't exactly sure how he'd even bring up the subject of marriage to them to be able to talk about the possibility of proposing to Frisk. Maybe he could just have some casual conversation, break the ice and then when he felt it was the right time, he could ask them about it. He was usually good at that sort of thing.

So, eventually he brought his fist to the door, tapping on it a couple of times before waiting for an answer. It wasn't actually too long until he got one, and he was stood before the upbeat and joyful goat, Asgore Dreemurr.

"Sans! Why, how nice it is to see you! We weren't expecting you to drop by today!" He said excitedly, which caused Sans to chuckle.

"well, i thought i haven't come by in awhile so, y'know... oh, don't worry about frisk by the way. she's with papyrus and mettaton at the moment. that's why i'm by myself."

"Oh, of course, of course. You two don't need to be locked to each other's sides twenty four seven." Asgore chuckled as he happily allowed the short skeleton to come in. Sans gave him a thankful grin as he came inside, being shown to the living room where Chara was seen lying down on the living room carpet upon her stomach with her feet in the air next to Flowey. Chara seemed to be concentrating, a pencil in hand as she was busy colouring a colouring book. Flowey just watched her with interest and was able to even colour himself at times with the use of his vines.

"hey you two. how have ya been?" Sans wondered, catching both their attention, looks of shock across both their faces.

"Smiley trashbag?" Flowey spoke and Sans grinned.

"long time no see, huh? what you two up to?

"Yeah, no kidding." Chara replied with a faint smile, until she looked back down at her book. "Oh! And I'm just colouring with Flowey. See?" She said, showing it to him by holding it up in the air and he simply nodded.

"impressive." He commented, not really knowing what else he could say about a colouring book. It wasn't that long until Toriel actually emerged into the room along with Asgore and she was beaming, clearly glad to see him stop by.

"Sans! It's nice to see you! What are you doing here?" Toriel asked as Sans chuckled.

"just thought it'd be nice to visit you guys. it's been awhile." He shrugged.

"Indeed it has! It's a shame Frisk couldn't come by today, as I actually baked some butterscotch pie. Would you like to try some?"

"uh, sorry, i think i'll pass for today, tori. it's just that..." Sans scratched the back of his skull nervously, which seemed to confuse Toriel and Asgore as he suddenly seemed anxious. "i need to ask you guys about something that's... kind of important.

"Huh? Well, okay. We can sit down if you would like." Toriel suggested, and Sans happily agreed as Sans sat on one couch by himself while Toriel and Asgore sat on another couch, staring his way, clearly intrigued as to whatever it was that he was so on edge to talk about.

"listen... you guys obviously know how... well, how much i care about frisk, right?" Sans said, which simply got Toriel and Asgore to nod.

"Of course, everyone knows that!" Chara called from the floor. "How's that going by the way?"

"well..." Sans paused as he stared back at the two Dreemurrs. "i... i mean, i was thinking..." He exhaled and just decided it would be best to get it out in the open. However they'd react, well he'd have to cross that bridge when he came to it. "i was thinking of asking frisk to marry me." He admitted.

The room just went silent. And everyone seemed to freeze as their eyes landed on Sans. The silence lasted for so long to the point of where it was almost uncomfortable, that Sans was so close to just saying "haha, it was a joke! funny, right?" but right before he was about to open his big mouth once more, he was suddenly covered in hugs from both Toriel and Asgore, as they both appeared to be crying tears of joy. Sans just stood, his arms stuck to his sides as he wasn't exactly so sure how to react. Chara was on the floor, clapping and whooping while Flowey just seemed to roll his eyes.

"Sans, this is amazing news!" Toriel was the first to exclaim, when she eventually pulled away from the hug and beamed at him. Sans rose his eyebrows, half expecting her to give him the mum talk right when he had said that. But judging by the sound of her voice and the look on her face, she truly was happy.

"you mean... you're not going to lecture me?" Sans questioned, which caused everyone to laugh and he just stood there, silently waiting for someone to answer him. Asgore was the next to speak.

"Of course not, Sans!" He chuckled. "Me and Toriel here fully know that you can take good care of Frisk. We've seen what you two are like around each other, and we know that you're both truly happy. I know how proposals can be nerve wracking--" He smiled towards Toriel who happily smiled in return. It made Sans grin, happy that the couple were happily still back together, even after all this time. "--but Frisk will say yes to you. No doubt about it."

"you... really think so...?" Sans questioned.

"I know so!" Asgore nodded.

"You shouldn't doubt yourself so much, smiley trashbag." Flowey said which caught Sans' attention with a raised eyebrow. "Like dad said, she obviously cares about you as much as you care about her. And you two have been together for a good few years. You even live together. So, just get it over with already and ask her." Flowey sighed. Sans chuckled, glancing to the floor for a moment, actually feeling a little more confident about the whole idea, thanks to them. Though, there was just one problem.

"problem is, i'm still as broke as anything. i don't even have a job." Sans shrugged. "there's no way i could even afford a ring.

"Nonsense!" Asgore responded, which made him jump and look back to the goat.

"We could always cover the expenses for the ring." Toriel offered.

"w-what...?" Sans stammered, clearly taken aback. "but... it's really expensive. and i don't even feel like i can even ask that of you. it's... it's too much.

"Sans, you have taken very good care of our daughter. You were the judge in the underground under my trust, and I have a very high amount of respect for you." Asgore said, Toriel nodded in agreement. "So please, allow us to repay you for everything that you have done. You pick any ring that you think will be perfect for Frisk, and we'll happily pay for it. No need to put it on a tab or anything, you won't need to pay us back."

"you... you guys..." Sans started before his smile widened and he actually began to laugh. Because he was happy. Happy that Toriel and Asgore were going to help him out, rather than wanting to dust him right then and there for wanting to marry their daughter. The fact that they trusted him so much, it really warmed his soul. "thank you... so much. i mean, words can't even describe how grateful i am."

"Of course, Sans." Asgore beamed. "We want nothing more than for you and Frisk to be happy. So, whenever you find the time to go looking for a ring, just let us know because we'll be there to help you out."
