Good People [8]
So it seemed like it was official. Sans was really going to ask Frisk to marry him.
Just thinking about it, it made him so damn nervous. Probably the most nervous he had felt ever in the entirety of his life. He needed to figure out how to get the free time to get away from her to have the opportunity to find the perfect ring for her. He could probably go when she had another one of those meetings, of if she was hanging out with the others... He'd just have to make sure not to run into her.
Right now, he felt like he kind of wanted to keep the whole thing a secret from everyone else. At least until he actually got a ring. He knew that everyone else in the Dreemurr family knew, but he was anxious that if anyone else found out, the secret would be spilled and it would just be ruined. After all, as much as he loved his younger brother Papyrus, sometimes he wasn't always the best at keeping secrets. He didn't want him to go and tell Mettaton, because then without a doubt he knew it would get out into the open.
It just made him wonder how exactly he would propose to her. What could he say? What could they do for the evening to ensure that it truly was special and that it all went according to plan? For now he wasn't sure, but while it made him feel a little on edge of how that night of his life could possibly go, it also made him feel slightly giddy at the thought of her perhaps saying yes. Before his past self never would have seen himself getting married in the future. Matter of fact he wouldn't have even seen himself having a loving girlfriend. If he never met Frisk he might have just been at his usual station all day long, doing nothing with his old boring life.
But here he was, thinking of asking the girl he loved so dearly to marry him. It felt quite surreal if he had to be honest.
Anyway, he was going to have to make a plan, which he had timed for a few days from now. Just so he could get out of her hair and ensure that he was able to go looking for a ring with Toriel and Asgore, without Frisk finding out. Of course, things don't always go according to plan, because she already had plans.
"wait, you're... what?" Sans wondered. This was five days later, the day he had planned to go out. She seemed to have plans to go out herself. "you're... goin' somewhere? who with?"
"Oh, you know." Frisk shrugged her shoulders as she was looking in the bathroom mirror at her reflection. "You know the guy I told you about? You met him. Ajax?"
"oh. him." Sans frowned, and Frisk must have noticed the tone of his voice didn't exactly sound so enthusiastic, so she turned to him with a wide smile and chuckled, before putting her arms around the back of his neck and staring up at him.
"We're just going to go eat somewhere, Sans. As friends. You don't need to get jealous."
"i'm not getting jealous." Sans protested. "it's just..." He trailed off and shook his head, causing her to raise an eyebrow in confusion. He couldn't tell her the reasoning behind why he was worried about her going out on this same day - he didn't want to be found out buying a ring! "...nevermind."
"I'll be back before you know it. Time will fly by." She smiled, pulling him in for a kiss. "So don't worry, okay?" She told him, and he just simply sighed, not wanting to protest and cause an argument with her about it. After all, he didn't want her to think he was just being a gigantic asshole by not letting her hang out with someone he just didn't trust. He trusted Frisk - whether he had been jealous because of relationship related reasons or not, but he didn't trust him.
"alright, fine. just go and enjoy yourself, 'k? and if he annoys you, let him know that a certain bone-friend will show him a bad time." He teased which caused her to giggle in response. The couple shared a hug before parting ways and Frisk went to grab her coat and left the house, on her way to meet with Ajax.
Meanwhile, Sans was now debating whether or not to call off the whole thing with Toriel and Asgore, whether he should look for a ring today or not. Because if Frisk found out that he was going to propose to her, then he felt it wouldn't be as special. And he wanted to make it one of the best days of their relationship for Frisk. A day that she would never forget, and that wasn't going to happen if she was already going to know about it beforehand.
Having a lot of procrastination on whether or not to call the Dreemurrs to cancel, Sans put on his own coat over his blue hoodie and made sure he was ready to go out. Once he was sure, he grinned, teleporting himself to the town, right outside the store that Sans had agreed to meet Toriel and Asgore outside of. He was ten minutes early, but he didn't really mind waiting around for them to show up.
However, to Sans' dismay, he actually saw Frisk walking towards him up the sidewalk, alongside that same guy from before - Ajax. Rather than looking all dressed up in a suit and tie with his combed back black hair, he was just wearing a casual shirt with jeans, and his hair was just sort of doing it's own un-messy thing. Sans knew he had to think of something fast if he didn't want to be spotted by the pair, so he quickly pulled his hood up and leaned against the wall with his face turned away from them. He was just hoping that would be enough for them to ignore him and move on.
And thankfully, that is exactly what happened. Both Ajax and Frisk continued their conversation, not even taking notice of the blue hooded figure who was acting as if he was minding his own business. As they were coming into earshot, Sans couldn't help but hear the fact that they were talking about monsters and just how "intriguing" Ajax found them to be. But Sans couldn't tell whether he meant that in a sense that he was actually interested, or if he was just saying that to say that they were abnormal to humans.
Frisk just happily contributed to the conversation, mentioning a couple of their good friends: Undyne, Alphys, Mettaton... She was saying that they were great people, great monsters and that there was nothing bad about them. He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow when he heard Ajax mention his name, asking about what he was to her - that they seemed quite close. And without regret, Frisk just told him that Sans was her boyfriend. That she wasn't ashamed of it.
The skeleton couldn't help but smile and lightly blush a hue of blue across his cheekbones once they were finally out of earshot. It was nice to hear Frisk talking about him, speaking highly of him when he wasn't even there. That she would defend him without a second of hesitation... He would do the same for her.
With that out of the way and when ten minutes passed, Toriel and Asgore actually came into view, and Sans waved to the couple who smiled and nodded at him in return. They were clearly excited to help Sans choose a ring, of course they were leaving it mostly up to him, but they still suggested ideas to him here and there when he wasn't quite sure.
Eventually, after a lot, a lot, a lot and a lot of thinking and debating, Sans finally saw a ring that he figured would be just perfect for Frisk. The moment he had laid his eyes on it, there was just a little voice in his head that said "That had to be the one." The Dreemurrs agreed that it was a nice choice, and as agreed covered the expenses for him. He was so, so thankful to them, he had no idea how he could ever repay them.
Now that he had the ring, he just had to plan ahead for what he would do. How would he ask her? Where would they go? That's what he was wondering. But he was sure he'd figure it out. And when everything was planned out, that's when he'd do it.
He'd ask Frisk to marry him.
