Chapter 18 - Lonely...?
The next morning, Frisk woke bright and early to set off to go find Flowey. She was already sitting on the sofa eating a bowl of cereal as Papyrus walked into the room.
"HELLO HUMAN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP SO EARLY? USUALLY YOU ONLY WAKE UP AN HOUR BEFORE SANS."
"O-Oh! I'm just going out for a bit! I'm er... Just gonna go exploring I guess." She shrugged, making up a lame excuse. However, Papyrus seemed to buy it and nodded along.
"I SEE! WELL, WE ALL LIKE TO EXPLORE! WELL, APART FROM MY BROTHER WHO IS AN ABSOLUTE LAZYBONES. HE USUALLY TAKES SHORT WAYS TO GET TO PLACES. SMH. HE NEEDS TO GET MORE EXERCISE ONCE IN AWHILE."
"Haha... Yeah, I see what you mean." Frisk chuckled, putting her bowl down and getting off the sofa. She started to make her way for the door. "I'll probably be back in a few hours! I'll see you later!" She called.

On her way to find Flowey, Frisk found a conveniently placed flower pot. She picked it up from a pile of leaves in wonder and stared around. She could hear a small rustle behind her.
Suddenly, a long, green vine shot up from the ground. Narrowing her eyes, she quickly jumped out of the way and dodged it.
"Ah! It's Frisk!" Flowey's voice squeaked, as he popped his head up from the ground. "And just what exactly are YOU doing here? Er... Again."
Frisk managed a small smile and got down on her knees before him. "I came here to ask you something."
"Huh?" Flowey looked at her confused. "If you're here to ask me for more favors, forget it. I'm not up for fighting smiley trashbag, again. That was a nightmare. Not to mention, it almost got us all killed several times."
"Oh! So you remember the past timeline!" Frisk rose her eyebrows in surprise. "I thought I was the only one!"
"Of 'course, you idiot! How could I have forgotten! The only reason everyone else has forgotten is because they were either killed before, or you MADE them forget. Just like you did with Sans... Er... Smiley Trashbag... Now, stop wasting my time! Just tell me what you want and then you can get lost!"
"Uh..." Frisk smiled. "I actually came here to ask you if... I could take you home."
"What?!" Flowey cackled. "Take me home?! With YOU?! Are you kidding!? That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time!"
"I'm serious." Frisk frowned. She slumped down, staring at the floor. "To tell you the truth, I've been feeling kind of lonely..."
"So? Are you expecting me to care?" Flowey spat.
"Not really... I just... I feel so alone... I'm the only one who remembers everything... And Sans... He... He doesn't remember everything he told me... And how he told me how he... Felt..." Frisk clenched her fists as tears started to flow down her cheeks. Flowey looked like he was starting to get REALLY uncomfortable.
"Stop crying you little twit! ...Seriously! Stop crying! STOP CRYING!" He shouted. Frisk looked up towards him with a start. "I don't understand why you should care anyway! I mean, why bother? Caring about things is what gets you hurt. That's why you're so upset now. It's because you chose to care and get attached."
"Flowey... Maybe one day you'll understand... If you ever did find something or someone you cared about..." Frisk whispered, with tears still going down her face. Flowey rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"Ughhhhh... Stop with the crying! You're driving me crazy here! .........Alright! ALRIGHT! IF YOU STOP CRYING! I'LL COME!" Flowey snapped. The moment he said that, Frisk's face lit up with a smile.
"Really?!" She beamed. Flowey cringed at her sudden perky reaction.
"Whatever... As long as it will stop you from being annoying and crying everywhere... But that doesn't mean we have to be all buddy buddy. I ain't choosing to get along with Smiley Trashbag. That brainless idiot drives me crazy."
"Okay! That's fine! And besides, there will be benefits to you staying with me." Frisk smiled.
"Huh? There will?" Flowey frowned. Frisk nodded.
"Mhm! After all, eventually we'll all be able to get up to the surface. You can come with me! You can see what it looks like up there! After all... I feel like if you just stay down here... Well, then..." Frisk bit her lip in thought. "I'd feel bad..."
"Yeah, yeah... Just do what you need to do." He muttered with a roll of the eyes. Again, Frisk beamed with happiness and carefully started to dig up the earth around Flowey. When she was finished, she placed him into the pot steadily and then placed more mud on top. Flowey did not look amused.
"I better get lot's of sunlight! And water! You got that!" Flowey moaned. Frisk chuckled.
"It's fine." She said. "I know how to take care of a flower... Now, come on... Let's take you back to Papyrus and Sans." She smiled.
****
"A TALKING FLOWER?" Papyrus questioned, looking at the glaring flower with interest. Frisk nodded, holding the pot in her hand.
"Yes. He's going to be staying with us from now on." Frisk smiled. Sans stared at her with a weird look on his face.
"seriously? he's staying here with us?" Sans asked.
"Shut up, Smiley Trashbag!" Flowey screeched. Sans narrowed his eyes. As he did, his left eye turned into his blue gaster eye, as his white pupil disappeared, leaving a dark empty socket. He glared at the flower.
"you might wanna watch what you say there, little buddy. otherwise you're really not gonna have fun living under this roof." Sans coldly answered. Frisk gulped and Flowey continued to stare at Sans as if he wasn't fazed at all. But Frisk felt like there could have been a slight chance that Flowey maybe felt a LITTLE scared.
"A-Anyway..." Frisk stuttered, placing Flowey on the window sill. "I'll take care of him so you guys don't need to worry about it..." She smiled. Sans tilted his head to the side, as his pupils went back to normal.
"well, i don't know. that flowey might wanna be careful. 'specially with so many big buckets and taps around... there is always the slightest chance that i could accidentally DROWN the little brat." Sans glared at Flowey, as Flowey glared back. Frisk sweatdropped.
"Guys, please! I'd like you to get along!"
"FRISK IS RIGHT! CUT IT OUT, SANS! YOU SHOULD BE NICE TO FLOWEY, SEEING AS HE IS NOW A NEW GUEST LIVING UNDER OUR ROOF. BEHAVE, WILL YOU?"
Sans let out a small sigh. "i'll behave if he behaves... not keepin' any promises..."
"Well, that's good enough for me." Frisk managed a small grin. At that moment, someone's phone started to ring, which made everyone jump.
"OH! WOWIE! THAT'S ME! I SUPPOSE SOMEONE IS CALLING ME AS I AM JUST SO POPULAR!" Papyrus said, taking out his phone. Flowey looked at Frisk and mouthed the words: "are you serious with this guy right now?". Frisk managed a small, knowing smile and mouthed back "You'll just have to get used to him..."
After a short conversation on the phone, Papyrus hung up.
"IT WAS UNDYNE! IT SEEMS SHE NEEDS ME FOR SOMETHING... OH GEE... I HOPE SHE'S NOT MAD ABOUT ANYTHING... SHE CAN BE PRETTY SCARY SOMETIMES... ANYWAY, I'LL LEAVE YOU BE! BE NICE TO OUR NEW HOUSE GUEST, SANS!"
"yeah, whatever..." Sans muttered under his breath, as Papyrus left and went out the front door. Sans crossed his arms, staring at Flowey with a look of anger and hatred.
"just exactly WHY did you have to bring THEM here. i mean, THEM, of all people?"
"Hey, you should be at least glad that I'm not here to kill you. If I wanted to, I could have done it any time before." Flowey spat. Frisk awkwardly stood, as Sans walked right up to the window sill and looked Flowey right in the face.
"you're still a monster. it's not like i've forgotten the timelines where you took the human souls and tried to murder everyone." Sans said. Flowey chuckled.
"Well, there's obviously SOMETHING you're forgetting. I saved your worthless pathetic life once. You should at least be grateful."
"what? no you never! you're such a lying little--"
"Guys! Please! Just stop will you?! You're driving me up the wall!" Frisk complained, putting her hands over her ears. Sans grunted in frustration and stepped back from Flowey, as he shoved his hands back in his pockets.
"i'm gonna head to grillby's... i need a break." Sans mumbled, just before he teleported away. Frisk frowned, as she and Flowey were now both alone. Frisk turned her gaze back towards Flowey.
"Don't do that."
"Don't do what?" Flowey wondered innocently. Frisk narrowed her eyes.
"You know what I mean. Don't talk about the past. If you remind him, he'll find out EVERYTHING. I'm not saying Sans is a monster or anything but... I don't think he's always the best when it comes to dealing with really negative emotions... If he ever found out what he did before, like I said, he'd blame himself... I feel like he'd lose himself... It wouldn't be good. Not for him, or us. So keep quiet. Got it?"
"Well, it's not my fault that he ticks me off. He's really annoying, after all."
"You're both as bad as each other..." Frisk commented, rubbing her temples. "Please, Flowey... I need you to not say anything to him. If he finds out... Well, I just said what it'll be like if he found out... So, please. Not just for my sake, but for everyone's."
Flowey stared at Frisk with uncertainty. He had a look on his face that honestly said "do I look like I care?". But even so, he rolled his eyes.
"Fine. But don't expect me to be friends with him. If he's going to say something to me, I sure as heck deserve to say something back."
"Okay, okay. Just not that, though." She managed a small smile.
"Yeah, yeah..." Flowey sighed.

Later during the day, Frisk was spending her time carefully watering Flowey in his pot, as he was staring out the window. He turned his head towards Frisk with a look of annoyance on his face.
"Sans is on his way back home."
"Huh?" Frisk also gazed outside the window, to see Sans talking to another monster just outside. Shortly after, he finished their conversation with them and started to walk to the front door. Frisk looked down at Flowey, hoping that the two of them wouldn't get into an argument...
"i'm back...." Sans muttered, coming through the front door. Frisk nervously smiled his way and sweatdropped.
"Er... Hey Sans... How uh... How are you doing? How was Grillby?"
"he was good. i was actually spending quite a lot of time telling him a skele-ton of jokes... man, i haven't laughed like that in... well, a long time."
"I see..." Frisk mumbled. She was glad that Sans was enjoying himself. But she wished she could be the one to be doing that... But since the last timeline, Frisk had felt so awkward around him, and she never knew what to say... It wasn't because of the whole feelings thing. She was totally cool with that. But she just hated, so, so much how she remembered everything, and Sans had no clue. Sans only remembers the timelines prior to that one. He remembers when Frisk was controlled by Chara, and when she killed all his friends. Any trust he had for her in the past timeline, was gone now. Frisk was feeling a little fed up, and didn't know if she could even be bothered to gain it back... Would everything just be reset again anyway...? Chara probably will come back...
"You? Laughing at your terrible puns...? Can't say I'm surprised." Flowey commented. Sans opened his closed eyes towards Flowey, looking bored.
"heh. i'd like to see you come up with somethin' funny, 'asriel'." Sans rolled his eyes.
"Ugh... I think I'm gonna go out..." Frisk muttered, going to grab her coat.
"huh? where to, kid?"
"I don't know... Anywhere... I'm not in the mood for your guys' fighting. I brought Flowey here because... Because I felt kinda lonely. But if this is the way you two are gonna be then... Ugh." Frisk frowned, as she grabbed the door handle and went outside. Sans stared after her in surprise.
"lonely....?" He muttered.
