Chapter 1: Memory loss

The visions. The free falling sensation. The muffled ambulance and beeping monitors. The crying, screaming, and tears, they're not going away.

The girl woke up, in a neatly made bed, sweating and panting, from the nightmare. She looked around the room she was in. It was a nice bright yellow, with patterns of teapots, hearts, and butterflies going around the cubed area. There were pictures of people, and they were drawn, and shaded in to make shadows. They looked real.

The girl went off the bed, and walked to the wooden desk, in the corner of the room. It was organized by coloring and writing utensils, journals and books, and even sketch books, and an old karaoke sat on the bottom of the desk. The sunlight, from the blind covered window, hit the girl's eyes. Her attention went straight for for the window, and she pulled open the blinds.

The glass barrier revealed a beautiful backyard. It showed swings hanging from the rows of trees, that still had green shimmering leaves on them, a few fallen brown leaves, and the emerald green grass. The girl gave a small smile to the scenery.

Just then, she heard the door creak open behind her. The girl looked behind her and saw a woman. The woman had the same brown hair, as she did, and her eyes were a deep blue. She looked to be about thirty or so. When the woman saw the girl, she gasped and started tearing up.

"Y-y-you're finally awake!" she cried.

The girl looked confusingly at the woman. She understood "Finally awake" but the word before that seemed to be alien to her mind. She pointed her finger to herself, asking the woman if she was talking about her. The woman nodded, wiping away tears, and she ran out of the room.

"Sean!" she shouted, "She's awake! She's awake!"

"Who is?" a man's voice shouted.

"Anya! She's okay!"

Anya heard footsteps approaching her room, and she stepped back, closer to the window. Just then, a man with dirty blonde hair and piercing blue eyes appeared in the doorway. He studied Anya, not believing what he was seeing. The man let out a sigh, and he wrapped his arms around Anya. She was confused by the gesture.

"Anya," the man said, pulling back and putting her hair behind her ear, "What were you thinking? Were you thinking that everything was going to be fine, if you chose that path?"

The word "you" stood out to Anya. She was still trying to comprehend what the man was saying. He realized that she couldn't understand, and he looked to the woman.

"Charlotte," he said, "I don't think she understands us."

"Do you think she lost her memory?!" the woman gasped.

"No," the man said, looking to Anya, "I mean, she seems confused about something, but I don't know what."

"Anya," the woman said.

Anya looked at the woman. She was just guessing that Anya was what she was called, by these people. The woman gave a sad smile.

"She knows her name," she said, "So she probably still has some of her memory."

"Anya, sweety," the man said, "Do you know who we are?"

Anya studied the man. He seemed familiar. His hair, his voice, his eyes, everything. But still, little Anya didn't know what it was. She tilted her head, but she still couldn't figure out who the man was. His smile soon turned into a frown, slowly. He let out a sigh and looked to Charlotte.

"She doesn't remember who I am," he said, glancing at Anya, "And I'm pretty sure she can't tell who you are, either."

The woman then started crying. Anya noticed this and walked up to the woman. She opened her tear filled eyes, as Anya gave her a hug. This feeling seemed much too familiar to her. This moment, the warm feeling, and the tears spilling from her eyes.

"I don't know what could be wrong with her, Sean," Charlotte said, "But at least we know that she remembers a small bit, about herself."

The man looked outside the window, to the scenery outside.

"Now I think I know why Anya liked this view so much," he said, chuckling, "It brings some sort of peace to the person that's watching."

"I guess it does," the woman agreed, "I guess it does."
